To me it can be less about the abilitys such as a healing facter or scent tracking, and more about what part of the charicters concept you wish to capture. i did make an npc who was based a great deal on Logan/wolvwrine. All I did was a ranger in leather armor that somwat resembaled the yellow and brown costume. gave him two weapon fighting, a set of animantine spiked gauntlets and actualy a +1 longsword and and a bow. he had a wolf copmanion also. people liked it and got wat i was going for witch was more of "the man of the wild " thing.

hey another GURPS fan. Right on brother

Liberty's Edge

My favorite charicters have been a strait ranger built humane with a 16 str and dex, and a multiclassed elf with a fenessed curveblade. I've played the ranger for years, baseing his feats and skills off of what he experinced in the games we played. He turned into a maxed out archer with a mega mighty composit longbow point blank shot, rapid shot, deadly aim, and multi shot by 8th level. He also had power attack and weapon focuss long sword for melee, later he two weapon fought with a handaxe. I took out two seperate bosses with one round crits and/or max damage. One was with a ctitical two handed power attake with the mwk cold iron long blade that was beefed up with a friends bull strenth spell. The other was a full round arrow volly were all missile hit with one criting. The coolist thing with this guy was I've never used magic iteams with him, only mster work stuff that mostly came from his first levels. I do use potions and a wond of cure lite wounds though.

My elf is 1st level barbarian who fenessed an elven curvblade, i put 3 levels of rogue on then 1 level of druid with a hawk animal companion and the boon companion feat. she made it solo threw the smugellers shive arch, surviving by crafting traps, fighting with hit and run attacks and when needed going toe to toe with the bosses and comeing out on top. Acrobatics, flanking, and proper skill use are key to this charicter as a rogue but the barbarians speed, well timed rage, and realyable combat partner provided from the druid featurs have added somthing extra.

Liberty's Edge

I didnt know about the trait most my know how comes out of the core book but another boost with a half elf is the skill emphisis feat for free. just something i've noticed makes a diffrince some times when picking between the two.

All i can say is its doable. the charicter I played made it solo threw the smuggelers shiv story arch with only the help of the in game nps's. hince the multi classing for versitility. But to do a full ranger or fighter build in a group would asome. You'd be kicken down doors and takeing names no problum.

Liberty's Edge

Okay I've played an elven feness fighter with a curve blade. Note that only Elves not half elves get this weapon as a marshel weapon for, any one else its an eccsotic. So go elf. The stats that worked for me was an 18 dex and a 14 str, I had a limited point by. This gave me a solid plus 4 to attacks and a flat plus 3 to damage that turnd into plus 5 with powr attack(at 3rd level). I dont know why people jump to scimitars they only do a 1d6 and curv-blades do the 1d10! Thuogh bolth have the nice 18-20 crit.

All I had to do then was get a bow and I had switch hitter that did mager damage with out even putting much level by level planeing into.
Throw in deadly aim and your other basic feats and your good to go.

My elf was a barbarian ( 1 lvl at lvl 1)so I also had rage bonus and some extra hit points to make up for the low race con elvs have. Later levels I added some ruoge for sneak attack damage beacaus I found I useing acrobatics to get into flanking posistions, but that was me and the party I was in.

A wolf companion for your ranger would be good but why I mentoned the rogue levels. Was I also had a level of druid and the boon companion feat. My companion was a leather armerd eagel that, sence it could fly, could move rather freely into flanking with my already acrobatic elf.

I know it was a lot of multi classing but it worked surprisingly well and drove my GM nutts. A strate Ranger build would be a solid way to go.

Liberty's Edge

I agree with chaoseffect above, but would also recamend disarm. i played with a frend who used it alot to basicly nulify bosses by takeing away there favorate weapon; eg the +3 humanebane sword, thus alowing party to kill him. but if you can deal major damage with grappel moves go with something that comlements that.

Liberty's Edge

Some pole arm weapons did have not so much a scabard but a cover of a fashion, but these were often for weapons that had a blade of some kind. it is a fact that short spears or javelins were heald in a quiver of three to five, but these weapons were only three to four feet long so easy to draw. Any thing five foot or better was carried in hand in battel but could be tucked into the strapes of a pack or armor while traveling.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry your screwed

Liberty's Edge

I would go archer for combat. Human with pbs and rapid shot at 1st so you can stay out of melee but help with multipul attackt per turn. Be a volcal performer so you can stand and sing or resite poetry as your move action and still get a shot off once your performance has started.

Take a healing spell at first level not for your party but to keep yourself breathing then somthing els helpfull. Deadly aim would be another good feat at 3rd level.

Just my 2 cents

Liberty's Edge

My biggest thing to say is, when your players are faceing him dont pull any punches. If theres a noticeable weakness he could take advantage of jump on it. Druids are asome villens and have some major abilities to use. One time I ran one and he was cool but I got distracted in the melee he and his animal were in and compleetly forgot the spells he was capable of casting. In short the group piled on him and cut the encounter down to a brawl when it could have been an epic battel of saves and mangeled gear.

Dont forget stuff like, Heat metel to mess with the warrior of the groups armor, warp wood to take out the archers bow, entagel to slow down the charging barbarian, Summon naturs ally to drop a dire bear behind the party to cut off any escape, call lightning storm to drill said party with damage before any real cambat starts.

He is a bad guy so be bad.

Liberty's Edge

Buddy if your gm is cool any of those roads would be a good one to take. My bottum line thought about what you should or would do but what your halfling would do. Based on his actions and passed deeds, what would he do. Is he honorable so would fess up, is he so brazzen and smoth he dare go back and play stupid, or is he a panic stricken fox high tailing for a safe hole somewere.

Liberty's Edge

You are correct, there isnt much use for crating skills or feats for folks whos true profession is adventuring unless the gm works it in. however it can be usefull in like you said stuff you need. During an ongoing campian i, for exampel, could not aford the bad ass masterwork composate plus 3 str long bow for my charicter. And i wasent going to any time time soon because we wernt getting major loot at the level we were at. I was able though to buy the ruogh matterial and durring the fallowing weeks of traveling, healing, and leveling. I was, with the use of the craft bow skill, able to make it long before I would have been able to puchase it.
In another case we used the rules of the cfrafting skills to comission custum iteams for plot purposes and time line needs, cause said iteams were going to take a month th to make we got in another job while we waited.

If you look at the Darkmoon Vail setting book they depict a fey queen who is in rivelry for power with her sister. Nymphs and dryads are somthing as a royal cort, satyrs are forest patrol gaurds, pixies are scouts and so on.
I've gone on to see dryads as something of forest clerics, nymphs as camanders, and satyrs, when welling, to be men at arms. Pixies, sprigins, and such are sorts the common folk, and then some sort of ruling force. Druids are mortal followers or loyal subjects of the community.
Out siders, hunters, loggers, enterlopers apon sacrid ground. Whatever. Are in their eyes tresspassers, vandels and theives. Elves play a roll if wanted as joined gaurdians, fellow woodland dwellers, or possably a rivel or sepperate faction viaing for power that players may have to deal with or face.

Liberty's Edge

Im playing a elf barbarian rogue in the smuggeler shiv story arch and its turnd out very well. So far i got 1 level of barbarian and 3 levels of rogue. I took a level of druid to get an animal companion for a flanking partner and it to has worked well. I would take as many levels of ether class as you eel fits the players fighting styl. Mine uses the full aray of stealth, ambush, ranged, and head on cambate as the sitchuation demands. It manly comes down to personal needs or party needs. Mine filled the nech of stealthy trap master as well as front end fighter.

Liberty's Edge

My pc has the get cargo threw trait and im wondering what my gm has in stor for me later concerning it and who hired me for the job as of yet it hasent come up.

Liberty's Edge

Just make a point of useing the npcs problums and personalitys witch in some cases are one in the same as role playing hooks. I ve noticed from other posts that iteam avalability has been a point of issue. But in most, including my own I ll add, gameplay this only added to the flaver of this story.
Jungil grub indeed tasts good.

Liberty's Edge

When we played we did the sit and wait thing very littel after two of the npcs were taken by the canabals. we set alot of traps but they were simpel, like sharpened stakes in the ground or trip line dead falls, and set them in strategec places. we used them along trails to pick off or at least wound some the canabals before we took their camp head on. as well as to gaurd our roving camp sites, witch oddly lead to the wounding, capture, and our eventual befriending of pezok. who then told us about the dryad who inturn alied with us, thanks inpart to my elf who spoke sylven.
Survival and camp basics were set around gathering fire wood, catching water in contaners, and cooking most of the monkies, goats, snakes, and shocker lizards. That harassed us during our wonderings and attempts at rest.
In all we were in a hurry to get off that cursed place and we did so with no fatalites, though admitably plenty of close calls and lasting scars and ability damage.

Liberty's Edge

I bipassed the giant uchin in the wreck below the rune ston bluff by snaging the rope of climbing coiled next to it with a grap hook and runing for it with it in tow.

Liberty's Edge

We only ran into the twice and one of those was already dead becaus i cought it in trap. the rest we cooked up for breakfast the morning after they stampeaded threw our camp. What got my group was a shocker lizard no one could role better than a 6 on and a troop of monkys that harassed us from the trees with nuts No one had a bow at the time so we had to improvise slings and belt them rocks. They tasted good when we finaly killed them though.

Liberty's Edge

No romance persay with my game but some strong frendships were forged. sasha latched on to my pc after i solo climed a cliff face to get a vantage point and ended up geting her the pet dino she had been wanting. Jask was a good freind to but kinda a kiss up as i was the one who picked the locks on his cuffs. thuogh that was more the way my gm portrayed him im sure.

Liberty's Edge

Going with out a rogue is doable but the group may still benifit if some one, not the alchemist, took a level or two of the class but only if it fits there pc in some way. I took levels of rogue but had already taken desable device as a cross class skill and bought a toolkit at first level creation. The sneak attack melded well with my combat methods and speed from barbarian.

Liberty's Edge

The spiked chain maybe the best way to go just becaus it would be the simpelist mechanic.
SWING THAT CHAIN!!!

Liberty's Edge

you still most have martial weapon pro in order to use it as a martial weapon. my game group at paizo con learnd that the hard way with the elven curvblade. i was an elf barbarian who could use one and we had an elf rogue who had one but turnd out had to take the -4 untill he took or got martial weapon pro.

Liberty's Edge

Ya I was domanated coupel games back and almost killed an allie. I had a realy low will save. I ve sence crossed classed to get a better save and abilities to help prevent something like this from happening again.
All the suggestions above are sound ways to go. Ganna look into those my own self.

Liberty's Edge

I fully agree with this point. Some or even many things are to common
or easy to get. Some things should be reserved for the ancent relic and family herlome boxes.

Liberty's Edge

Bottum line, as wiyh any thing else. Use em were there effectiv. IF your going up agenst undead and need a skull breaker. Pull the thing out and wing away. There usefull were they are and werthless were not. Like any other weapon, feat, ability, or skill.

Liberty's Edge

Ya see my fight with the red devil was bow shots acouple lucky melee hits and then BOOM. A crit with the +1 scimitar that we took off the canabal cheif. Coolist thing ever because it was throwen. Nat 20 then just a good enuogh role to confirm it. Near max damage and he died in the air and tumbeled over the cliff. Not to say he was a push over,he got every one for good hp loss before he went down.

In fact I beleave he was on the run when we got with the thrown sword.

Liberty's Edge

The big boss was an epic tussel. We went for rounds beating on her. My personal pc got domonated and and almost took out an allie. Thing was the way we cowordinated our first strike ended up throwing off her groove just enough that she wasent able to pull acupel of her more nasty tricks.

Liberty's Edge

Realy you may be fine with your idea. I played the cobold king story with just one other player and we were gestalted. We did great even agenst the tougher bad guys though we did have a druid aniamal companion to help with combat.

Liberty's Edge

That would do it. Sneak attack is a great equilizer and mechanicly makes up for the rouges lower hit die and base attack bonus. As well as low damaging weapons.

Liberty's Edge

I also said I got negitivs for shooting into melee.
Also my coment was to answer and coment about small characters in combat and sneak attacking with effectivness, not have my post put threw the blender.

Halflings get a +4 bonus to stealth,a +2 bonus to dex, and are often played in a class that has stealth s a skill. If you have the ability to sneak attack, its not to hard to find a way to gyp a bad guy out of his dex bonus one way or another.

Liberty's Edge

In our earlyer days of role playing we had a whole set of rules writen up for what the pathfinder cambat manuver rules now cover because we were mixing differant game systems. It gave us a stand alone method so we dident get things mixed up. I find the paizo rules system mechanic much easyer and now hold it as the law. Even to the other games we play like star wars and the gurps general rules.

Liberty's Edge

Any thing based in the Darkmoon Vail is gold. Falcons hallow stuff is good, if you dont start with that stuff then be sure to come back to it. This is the place I first played Pathfinder and I love it and me and my freinds have gone on to base most of our home brews around here and other places in the contery of Andoran. Most of my socity play characters are from here or factioned to the freedom fihgters. DOWN WITH CHILIAX.

Liberty's Edge

YES, to the elvin curvblade. I have played two frontline elvs that weild this weapon with weapon fenesse. theay are great with at least a 14 str and even better when you can rage. Yes I have played elf barbarians or at least charaters that started with a level of that class.

Liberty's Edge

I just got off the island. All npc s are alive and we got an extra person off too. Echiru and jask were taken but saved from the canabals in a rescue that was also the final struggel to take out the leader and the last of his men. We all took mager Hit point damage on a regular basis and relied on healing from the npc bard and cleric.

The big fights went well becaus we went into them prepaird. the ramdom encounters are what got most of our damage earlyer in the game. But this is also were we got better than half the canabals killed off before we took over their base. Traps set here and there also added to our survival becaus they slowed, mamed, and gave early warnings on threats.

Over all it was an awsome adventur with improvision being key. Those who couldent adapt probly dident do so well. I personaly played a barbarian/rouge that ended up takeing a level of druid by the end of the story becaus of all the time she spent around the dryad talking to her in sylven and learning about the island from her.

Liberty's Edge

We also had a house rule that if something like a tangelfoot bag caused an enemys dex mod to drop to 0 or ability score to drop below 10
they were open to a sneak attack. But this was back during the bata play test and we were used to play 3.0 and 3.5 rouges that only had a d6 hit die.

Liberty's Edge

Stealth for the fist round damage. Aftern that I was more or less damage support untell our monk figured out some useful cambat manuvers
and our druid rememberd his wolf got a trip with his bite. I took alot of penalties for shooting into melee.

Liberty's Edge

YES YOU CAN. I played a ranger who had started out being an archer. Soon though it turned out the group relide on him greatly as a front end meele fighter. He stuck to archery as his comdat styl but I added in power attack at 3rd level so he could two hand a longsword he carried wtch with a 16str put out quite a bit of consecutiv damage. Later (7th level) I gave him two weapon fighting and he became even greater.

Liberty's Edge

Had a halfling ranger level 2 rouge 1 with point blank shot and rapid shot doing 1d6 with bow and 1d6 with sneak attack at 30ft or closer. Ruled th game as far as dmg went. Just stood in the middel of the room and pumped the arrows out.

Liberty's Edge

There are many vidio game worlds like what is being talked about here.Fabble, elder scrolls, ect...

It would wake for a very good setting i think.

And the gestalt idea would be the way to go I feel as well.I have played with those mechanics before and they go quiet smothly.

Liberty's Edge

I had a guy who played a rouge in the socity game "murder on the sinken trail". In this he snagges a harpy with a grappeling hook while he s on the back of a running cammel. The harpy gets yanked out of the air and slammes into ground for some damage. Then the rouge bales off the cammel and draws his sword to get in an attack of oprotunity. He dident hit but would hav gotten sneak attack damage in if he had.

harpy still gets taken out though becaus it never is able to free its self and so is drugg to death by a galiping cammel.

Liberty's Edge

I may point out though you take a -2 when useing a bow with a str setting higher than yours. Bow plus3 str mod plus2 = penilty on attack.

Liberty's Edge

okay ya then you would tes . I mean t standared starting wealth unalterd by any feat, trate, ect...

Liberty's Edge

comosite bows cost more to make the stronger the pull. Long bow is 100 GP per strength bonus. And that is beyond the flat 100GP for a strait d8 bow. Short bows are 75GP.

You want a plus 3 composite long bow you ARE going to hav to pay 400GP.

NO, first leveler fresh out of pathfinder school is going to have that until they earn some street cred.

Read the whole weapon and price entery people.

A littel unorthidox. But because our playing group fell apart here a short time back. I have a gm who is running me solo threw at least the smuggelers shiv arch. I ve got the main quest done and had to do it with nothing but the help of the npc's. None have died, though they and I have come close many, many times. I did not have diplomacey as I started out as a 1st level elf barbarian but managed to littel by littel win the entir group over. Levels of rouge and +1 cha mod helped but it added to the depth of the game.

I hate to see players miss out on this. But they dont sound realy nice and to shake things up. You could have gelek flat turn agenst them. There are places and persons he could find and allie with. This could make for interesting development for later.

I say let them play as they will and let them reap the resulsts. Good or bad. You, just have to be ready to role with it.

Liberty's Edge

To the above.

Well said.

Liberty's Edge

During somthing of a play test me and a buddy did with the class. I found the inquisitor did fine in melee. He had a 5th level elf with two elven curvblades, one silvered one coldiron, and I pit him aginst all sorts of things. While he did buff and rely on his judgments , what is what the class does, there were time he didnt have the chance. He fought toe to toe with wearwolves, corupet fey, ect. And did ok.

I would say choose your build well. dont over extend your abilities to thin. And focus on a particular combat styl or weapon. My friend and I are weapon fenesse fans so curvblades and light multifunctonal stuff like daggers and throwing axes are seen alot.

Liberty's Edge

Switch hitters are awsome as long as you dont spread your sels to thin. I also played a ranger that bounced between a longbow and longsword. he could draw and sheath the blade as needed with out ever ditching the bow. I dont know how switching up between ranged, casting, and melee would go but if you use good judgement per situation. You should be good. And the enquisitor is a good class choice for this kind of build.

Special Abilities
--------------------
Burn Leyten can accept 1 point of burn to use his infusion wild talents, which modify his kinetic blast. She can accept only 1 point of burn per round and a maximum of 7 points of burn total. For each point of burn she accepts, Leyten takes 1 point of nonlethal damage. This damage can be healed only by a full night’s rest, and it can’t be reduced or redirected.

Basic Chaokinesis Level 1, Burn 0
Leyten can create a shadow that protects a target from bright light. He can also change gravity to increase a creature’s carrying capacity by half or grant a creature a +4 bonus on Acrobatics checks to jump.
Each benefit lasts 1 hour or until he uses basic chaokinesis again.

Kinetic (Negative) Blast
Leyten can blast his foe with negative energy as a ranged touch attack, up to a range of 30 feet. This blast and its composite blasts never heal creatures, even if they would normally be healed by negative energy (though such creatures still take no damage). He must have one hand free to aim the blast. The blast is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Pulling Infusion
Element void; Type substance infusion; Level 1; Burn 1
Saving Throw none
Leyten's kinetic blast pulls foes toward him. He attempts a drag combat maneuver check against each target damaged by his infused blast (the blast always drags the foe closer to him), using his Constitution modifier instead of his Strength modifier to determine his CMB. This infusion can pull a foe a maximum of 5 feet. He can increase the maximum distance pulled by 5 feet per additional point of burn accepted.

Defense Wild Talent Emptiness
Leyten’s body becomes an empty husk, fueled by an internal void. He gain negative energy resistance 2, a 5% chance to ignore critical hits and sneak attacks, and a +1 bonus on Will saves against emotion effects. By accepting 1 point of burn, he can increase the resistance to negative energy by 2, the chance to ignore critical hits and sneak attacks by 5%, and the bonus on Will saves against emotion effects by 1 until the next time his burn is removed. The chance of ignoring critical hits and sneak attacks granted by this wild talent stacks with the chance granted by elemental overflow to a maximum of 100%.
When Leyten accepts burn while using a void wild talent, his bonus on Will saves applies against all mind-affecting effects for 1 round. He can dismiss and restore this effect as an immediate action.

Utility Wild Talent No Breath
Leyten does not need to breathe, and is immune to effects that require breathing (such as inhaled poison). This does not give him immunity to cloud or gas attacks that do not require breathing. He can survive in the vacuum of space.

Gather Power If he has both hands free, Leyten can gather power as a move action. This creates a loud display in a 20-foot radius centered on Leyten, and it allows him to reduce the burn cost of her infusion wild talents by 1 point (as long as he uses the talent in the same round). If he gathers power for a full round, he can reduce the cost by 2 points (minimum 0). If she does this, he can also gather power as a move action during his next turn to reduce the cost by 3.
If he takes damage during or after gathering power but before he releases her infused blasts, he must succeed at a concentration check (1d20+6) or lose the gathered energy. The DC is equal to 11 + the amount of damage Leyten took. If he fails this check, Leyten must accept 1 point of burn.

Appearance:
The pale, gray eyes are the first thing you notice about Leyten Krovt. He has short, wavy blonde hair and a ruddy, weathered complexion, with a noticeable scar across his right cheek and upper lip. As a result, Leyten often seems to have a look of distaste. Truth be told, however, the scar probably doesn't make a difference.

A tattoo of a black-haired woman with snakelike skin adorns the right side of his neck. He wears a gray studded leather armor, a silk black shirt, and black trousers, along with a burgundy cloak with a bright ocher trim. His left hand has a gold ring with a bloodstone.

Personality:
Leyten is pithy, choosing to speak briefly yet forcefully, and he appreciates people who do the same. While he may come across as unsociable, he actually prefers the company of others. Being alone for too long causes his mind to wander down unpleasant corridors. He's an occasionally fatalistic yet always curious explorer.

Background:
Leyten had made a successful living as a guide to artifact hunters and other people who risked exploring within Ustalav. One year ago, while relaxing at a riverfront inn with his wife, Jenna, he met a beautiful woman named Silviana. He quickly became infatuated with this enchanting woman. The following night, he angrily left his shocked wife and went to Silviana's cottage in the woods. He and Silviana were soon locked in passion for hours. After he renounced his love for Jenna, Silviana revealed herself to be a green hag! She intended to keep him locked up with the bodies of her previous lovers, as a prelude to some occult ritual. Leyten - in a burst of desperation - was able to get past her and out the door, but not before she had raked her claws across his face and thrown a hex at him.

Bleeding, mostly naked, and thoroughly ashamed, Leyten could not bear the thought of returning home, especially since the hag would likely strike at Jenna if he did so. He gathering what belongings he could from the inn and left the area.

That next night, Leyten dreamt feverishly of Silviana's seductive form and horrific nature. When he awoke, he felt ill, but he knew he'd survived the brunt of her hex - or had he? He soon discovered that he had strange, new abilities, including control of negative energy. Much more disturbingly, though, there was a new tattoo on his neck: a beautiful, black-haired woman with snakelike skin.

He doesn't know what it means, but he's convinced he'll meet that woman one day. And when he does, it'll be the end of his life. He joined the Pathfinder Society to learn more about the nature of curses, and to keep others from making the mistake that he did.
