The new warmage?

Round 2: Words of Power Discussion

Just an initial assessment, as I haven't had time to playtest it yet, but a sorcerer using words of power would seem to play out a little like a warmage from 3.5. Ultimate versatility on the battlefield (with the right words), but little in the way of utility magic.

This has been my experience so far as well. It does open up greater possibilities for sorcerers in that they could potentially learn words of power from other classes, as per the "learning spells from unusual sources" rule that has always existed and never been utilized.

The playtest did not include all of the words. It was mostly for a playability and spell damage test.

It seems very much like the "Chaos Mage" of ages gone by, just with standard spell limitations rather than hit point damage.

a class that works only with power words dose not seem like a bad idea thow

One thing that was stated was the list of Words we have now are limited, and more the number-crunching type. The truely utility Words weren't released yet.

I am curious to see how Gish characters will work out with this system. If all you want to be is a fighter with the ability to fry things at range when stuff is not next to you then the WoP system seems like it might be perfect for that.

The Magus should also be interesting. A major complaint about the class was that there were so few touch spells that dovetailed with its signature ability. But now, voila! Anything can be a touch spell, well almost.
