Medium with Large Reach Weapon

Rules Questions

If a Medium character were wielding a Large reach weapon, such as a large guisarme (character has the oversized limbs variant tiefling feature from Bastards of Erebus) what would his reach be?

I really dislike the rule that a reach weapon of appropriate size doubles your reach. This illustrates one of the reasons why. By RAW, the Large weapon doubles your Medium character's reach. He therefore has a reach of 10 feet.

If weapons don't magically lengthen and shorten according to who holds them, but instead a reach weapon adds the reach of a Tall creature of its size to that of anyone who can wield it, his roughly 20 foot long Large polearm would give him a reach of 15 feet, but that would be a house rule.

By RAW, 10 ft.

Conversely, if a medium character were wielding a small reach weapon in one hand, such as a small long-spear, he would still have a reach of 10 ft.

Grumble grumble. I think I'll grant the character in question 15 feet of reach. It makes sense to me and I don't think it's overpowered at all, considering he has to switch from reach to non-reach (Polearm Master variant fighter) and take a -4 penalty for it.

Thanks for the responses.

Per RAW, a medium creature wielding a large one-handed weapon wields it as a 2-handed weapon, taking the inappropriate size penalty (-2) to attack rolls.

A medium creature cannot wield a large two-handed weapon "If a weapon's designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can't wield the weapon at all.".

There is a 3.5 feat (monkey grip) that would allow the medium character to wield a large two-handed weapon, but I'm unaware of any Pathfinder feat that allows this.

Reach weapons don't care about how big they are, they double your natural reach. There used to be a rule in 3.5 that you couldn't use a reach weapon of the wrong size and maintain reach, but I couldn't find that rule today in PF.

So double Medium (wielding a Large Reach weapon) is attacking at 10', which is what everyone in this thread has said already. I assume by your "I'm going to go with 15'" you are the DM. In which case you can always rule 0 it to whatever you wish.
