DM, am I correct in interpreting that whatever it is landed basically directly above Nuveril and ran toward our exit on the southeast?

When she hears something large and unknown land on the roof, Nuveril rolls to her feet and moves toward the open corner of the building, her weapons at the ready.

If she is rising from prone, she can only make it as far as O19; if she can do a double move, she'll go as far as R21, then stop and see if anything hops down off the roof, not wanting to be what it hops down on. She'll stay under a bit of cover and hope to be able to flank it if it leaps down to fight the others.

Yep it landed a little past you to the se and headed toward the entrance which is basically in the middle of the south wall. This isn't entirely clear from the top down map it was set out better in the fight with the snake. I'm happy with you double moving. I'm assuming you were crouching rather than lying prone.

Wherever the entrance is, put her just inside it where she's got cover from whatever's on the roof. Sajan's up.

Which way do we believe the Gnoll's are coming from guys? Sajan's looking to lay caltrops to block the squares either east or west of him.

DM Dan E wrote:
You hear the gnoll patrol but now they seem to be moving forward again: toward the side street to the west of the market.

I believe that's along the red line on this map that the late Lone Gnoll took before he got smashed.

Grall said he would follow Khalid's lead so we will move this along. The gnoll patrol backed up west down the main street toward the lower gate house. As Nuveril said it now sounds like they are coming back toward the side street which runs n-s to the west of the slave market. Sajan will be a little busy for caltrop laying though.

You move with purpose, Khalid taking point and heading toward the gap in the buildings (but not getting too far ahead). Linah and Arjun follow while Nuveril runs across from her position at the corner. At Khalid's hurried instruction, Grall remains as a rear guard.

DM only:

K acro 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (20) + 43 = 63

Accordingly, he, and the slow moving Sajan, get a full view of the demonic figure soaring over the adjacent roof section to land lightly on the ground directly to his west. Initiative count 9.

The creature is humanoid, heavily muscled and near seven feet tall, with the head and twisted horns of a goat and bare cloven-hooved feet. Its skin and hide are a blotchy purple with tufts of coarse white hair and boils and sores cover the length of its body. Its clawed hands hold a wicked black halberd made of a metal you cannot identify. It does not appear to have come from any mortal forge. It wears no armour, only a putrid loin cloth.

It smells of blood and pestilence. For a fraction of a second its sickly-yellow eyes flick between Grall and Sajan and then with a familiar goat-like scream it rushes at the flat-footed monk in a blur of motion, halberd spinning in full circles before darting out in a horizontal slash. The creature appears extremely fast on its feet, as if possessed of some speed enhancing enchantment.

Perception DC15:

The edge of the goat creature's halberd appears coated in some viscous substance. It looks unpleasant...

Halberd 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 hit

The strike is rushed but manages to penetrate Sajan's distracted defense and he is cut deeply across the chest and left arm. Along with the wound he feels a burning sensation. DC 16 fort save please.

The creature laughs, and in a deep bleating rasp speaks in common. One by one you will fall before Kezurkian's blade mortals. Thy doom has come.

Sajan:

You have plenty to occupy your attention as the creature rushes at you but at the very last second before its strike you feel some kind of enchantment settle on you. It feels similar but different to the spell Sabeen cast on you in the monastery, some kind of protection, but it is not quite enough to deflect the blow and you can feel it shatter as you are hit.

Map is updated. I've stuck in the doorway but you could also enter or leave the building from the se hole. Sajan is up. The creature is medium size but its halberd will of course provide ten feet reach and possible AOO(s) for those wanting to close to five.

Yep sometimes demon means demon. Knowledge (the planes) to identify.

Thanks Alex. No its my error. It has five feet reach naturally and as you say a halberd does not provide reach.

A HOPEFULLY MILD RETCON: The creature moved to W-19 before striking at Sajan. AOO capability is as you would normally expect for a medium sized creature.

Assuming with the new movement information Grall has moved to flank the demon with Sajan. If not, Sajan will attempt to flank with Grall using acrobatics to move if necessary. If thats not possible, then just ignore the acrobatics roll and take two off the CMB check.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Acro

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 CMB to grapple

Badly wounded by the demon's halberd, Sajan steps inside its reach, seeking to grab his foe and render the two handed Halberd useless. Gasping in pain from the halberd strike, Sajan nevertheless manages to get a hold on his foe and begins to bring his great strength to bear...

Hurry... Strike it down!

Will need some healing for this to work, but essentially as long as i'm grappling him he A- doesn't threaten squares and B- won't be able to use his halberd. I assumed 26 or 28 CMD was a success on grappling in my description.

Edit: Oh, and -4 for his CMB in a grapple if hes not got his hands free ;).

Male HP(104/104 or 125*/125*) Gnoll Barbarian 7 - Invulnerable Rager

Dan, the only retcon to my action would have been to flank and power attack the grappled creature. So my net attack would be a 21 AC not including the creatures AC penalty for being grappled and I should get +3 to damage for 13 points total.
I am assuming my bite attack failed anyways even with its lowered as I only hit a AC 15.

Grall won't act until the top of round 2 so I've assumed you've grappled it from W-20 with a five foot step.

Sajan's direct attack seems to take the goat demon off-guard. It is forced to take an arm of its halberd to try and fend off Sajan's reaching arms and is then surprised again by his sheer strength. The creature roars in anger, spraying Sajan with a mix of spittle and pus from its sores, but cannot shake itself from the monk's iron grip.

The demon and Sajan are grappled.

Notes

- No further map update as only Sajan has moved a square to the south.

- Corners are blocking LOS as you would expect. The roof of the market is about 12' high.

The group can hear the gnoll patrol rushing back to support the demon. You think they will be on you shortly.

Grall takes the offered opportunity to dash around the grapplers and flank the demon (W,17). It is spinning like a dervish trying to throw Sajan off but the gnoll is able to plant a solid blow with his falchion into its thigh and black blood oozes down its muscled leg. However, Grall finds that even with his powerful attack trying to penetrate its thick hide is like trying to cut through stone and much of the power of the blow is lost.

Khalid is up.

Sajan Krama Sumna wrote:

Think that only applies to the check for the grapple standard action rather than the check for the break grapple standard action. It may end up with better prospects trying escape artist but let me review so I ensure I have it correct.

Don't have cold iron or blessed weapons, but I'm hoping 25 points of damage from the little +1 hammer that could will get through its DR. Nuveril charges into the melee, hefting her hammer. Sajan manages to hold the demon in place just long enough for her to line up a clean strike and she takes full advantage, pivoting in almost a complete circle to build momentum and slamming the hammer into the creature's ribs. Bones snap with an audible crack and the demon roars in agony.

Perhaps not hearing Khalid's words, Arjun lobs his vial. The throw is a wobbly one and the vial collides off the southern wall before exploding and sending icy shards everwhere. The demon appears unaffected, none of the shards appear to penetrate its thick hide. Those in melee on the other hand are not as well protected.

I make it an AC 2 +1 BAB, +2 dex, + 1 pbs, + 1 bless, -4 throwing into melee, -4 soft cover (its currently surrounded by your allies). Its also standing next to a wall so that will end in its square splattering all of the meleers.... I'm assuming you would like to re-roll the scatter 1d8 ⇒ 7.... EDIT: A 7 splashes to the north not south but I don't think that changes the result.

I tend to think you were unaware of the positioning when you took your shot. I don't really like undoing actions after they are declared but on a limited time basis if you think you would not have taken a throw action I'll allow a re-do.

Well that jump must have taken some its movement, how far has it ran along the wall? And how high is the wall?

The wall is ten feet high as stated. It jumped to X-20 and ran 25 feet along the wall to X-25. Movement penalty for acrobatics has already been factored in. In retrospect thats probably five feet too far, its jump should be from the lowest point not the highest or mid-way. Ten feet for the jump and twenty feet along the wall leaves him in X-24.
