Thanks, man. This map gave me some pretty heavy advantages. My AC and stealth for that last round were both 23... which accounts for you not hearing me, though I agree that you would at least have heard the spellcasting at that range. I assume then that you had a readied shot fired in that case? If so, was the attack roll higher than 23? If so, was the damage higher than 7? If the answer to both of these is 'yes', then I'll be fine in retconning you a victory. I just had some hellacious rolls this match.
But still, it was a tense one.

Honestly, I think I mis-read your Perception check, I with with the DC 16(15 for whispered conversation, since he was stealthing)+1 for 10 feet away. You would have Heard the Spell being cast, but your check wasn't high enough to pin-point where he was(vs his stealth). The Spell would still have gone off.
you're alwasy welcome to make another Character for round 2! :-)

Well, just for rules clarity and fairness (becuase it's going to be a main strat for Shaye), any time you cast a spell with a verbal component (and it's not Silenced per the metamagic feat), it has to be spoken in "a strong voice", which is most often translated to mean it is at least a conversational voice. The Perception rules note that the DC for hearing/understanding a conversation is a base of 0 - which you then modify for distance. So you can't really modify the Perception DC of teh verbal component of a spell without the Silent Spell feat.
So, if Van had a readied shot, I think he should have gotten it, it just wouldn't have mattered, as he didn't hit my AC. Like i said, i don't want to beat a dead horse, but I don't want to be getting away with anything underhanded, either. I want to beat my opponents fair-and-square, or be beaten in the same way.
Don't mean to annoy you with this, Evil Ginger, but I want everything to be on the up-and-up, too. I loved the game, btw. Can't wait til his next fight! My next post will be in the Hall.
