Round 3

Tristain tries to buy time for Kyffin to return. "Oh man, you're annoying me. Get gone again!" Tristain tries to send the creature on a 'mazical' journey of madness.

Round 2:

Al and Lothan brutally wound the aeon, which is barely standing by the time Starflit casts her spell -- only to see it fizzle out of time didn't beat SR. Tristain's spell is more effective and the creature disappears!

As he disappears, the other Kyffin screams again: "Wake up! Save yourselves! Wake up!”

Mechanics:

I'm going to rule that -- since he's apparently not coming back for at least three rounds and Kyffin will be back by then -- that you'd all be able to take him out before he can do anymore harm.

As he reappears, you continues with your brutal assaults, sending him back to the plane where he came from (or perhaps to the maze, where he was safer). The moment that happens, the other Kyffin screams for a final time. “WAKE UP! SAVE ME! HELP! WAKE UP, DAMN IT!”

What do you do?

His visage sporting a look of abject horror, "TWO Tristains?! Oh, HELL no! There'd better not be two T's. If that's the case, well, I quit! There's only so many T's I can take, man. And one is enough!" He nods emphatically. "No offense, T," he says, figuring that fixes everything.

"By the way, what is that other Kyffin doing? I mean, are we supposed to do something? Are we asleep? Heck, I'm confused. I totally blame the player controller that thinks he's in charge of me. Whoever he is, he has GOT to be an idiot. I swear, if I weren't in full control of myself, I'd already be dead because of him. Such a loser. And I think his stupidity is like a virus, it just spreads and spreads and spreads, and I'm right in the middle of it." Shaking his head in frustration, he looks up and shakes his fist at the ceiling...

...before turning back to the situation at hand. "Okay, should I shoot the other Kyffin? What about the other Tristain? What about the current Tristain? Maybe the one we have is an impostor and has been working with the bad guys to betray us at first opportunity. He's just been pretending to help us. Yeah, yeah, that's gotta be it. Definitely." He bobs his head, thinking that's a pretty good theory.

Cutting his eyes toward Tristain, "No offense, T."

"And...uh...does my hair really look like that? It's always that pokey-uppy in the back? Oh man, how come you guys never told me that?" Tristain still tries to address the elephant that has been licking the cowlick.

"But also, look there?" Tristain points to a corner in the screaming-Kyffin cell. "See that? That's good news. We know where we are now! We KNOW WHERE WE ARE! It's amazing to know again! Tristain thinks perhaps trying to wake them up might work. Shooting them with arrows probably isn't a good idea, but maybe shaking them (gently, Lothan!) or pouring some (not too hot) water on them, or even calling out something specifically to them.

--

You find yourselves back in the same spot at the docks where Cassilda first teleported you to the Thrushmoor nexus. The skies are still stormy, the rain begins to soak your clothes, and waves roll across the lake.

You are back in the faded version of Thrushmoor, and you realize that if they don’t sever the connection to Carcosa still held by the tenacious connection between Lowls and Xhamen-Dor, the town will be drawn into Carcosa.

Beyond the docks, large sections of the town appear to be missing. Empty ground exists where buildings once stood. Yet slowly the outlines of homes and business start to appear and gradually become more and more solid. The streets of this phantom town are deserted, but the cries of its panicked populace can be heard in the distance. Those cries grow steadily louder with every passing heartbeat. To the north and in the direction of Iris Hill, storm clouds circle where the manor should stand and a beam of yellow light rises from the ground and stabs into the night.

When you reach the spot where Iris Hill should be, you find a two-story tower of peculiar yellow stone stands where the manor once was. It is featureless and windowless save for an open, arched entranceway at the base. Spired battlements, like the tines of a crown, surround the top of the structure. A beam of pale yellow light stabs through the eye of storm clouds that swirl around the tower in a ring. Surrounding the tower is an immense hedge that parts in front of the entrance. Shadowy figures can be seen moving on the tower’s roof in the gloom.

Sighing again, "Ground floor. Top floor. Doesn't matter to me. I'll just follow your lead, big guy." Dazed and confused, wet, tired, and with his bow in hand, Lothan follows after the half-orc.

OK, if Kyffin would have gone anyway, I'll stick with the actions, including Starflit casting see invisibility on herself.

You race up the stairs to an enormous circular chamber that's twenty feet high and holds two sets of staircases. One set that you just came up winds counterclockwise down around a central support pillar and ends at the ground floor. The second set of stairs runs clockwise along the wall up toward the roof.

A pale yellow light suffuses this room from above, casting strange, flickering shadows on the stairs leading up. Tristain can see the ratling racing upward, and Starflit catches a flicker of its tail just as she arrives.

Unfortunately, six cultists in yellow robes stand between you and the stairs leading upward. Fortunately, everyone can see them, so they're definitely not a hallucination of Tristain's. Five wielding rapiers are arrayed on the floor; a sixth stands 15 feet up in the air, her head just barely touching the 20-foot-high ceiling. She has a rapier at her hip, but holds a scroll in her hands.

Before you can react, the cultist with green stitching on his robe rushes around you and stabs Al! 31 total damage, plus 2 Str damage

Starflit grits her teeth and covers up with her magic cloak as much as possible as the flame strike wracks her body with divine, fiery pain.

So that's what it feels like to be on the receiving end of that spell! she thinks as she fights through the pain. But that which does not kill you...makes your vengeance stronger!

The inquisitor's eyes narrow--unseen beneath the bugged-out moth eyes of her mask--as she casts her own spell. She'd planned on casting the very same spell that she and her allies had just tasted, but the cult leader beat her to the punch. I wonder how many of these fanatics have felt the righteous wrath of a flame strike themselves? A moment later, her own column of holy fire rips through the ranks of her foes, including their twisted leader.

Almost as an afterthought, she also invokes the judgments of Protection, Purity, and Healing.

Lothan easily avoids the fire -- but not the adjacent cultist's sword as he launches arrows at the spellcaster, quickly pincushioning her. 9 hp to Lothan The woman slumps in the air and slowly begins to sink to the floor, to the other cultists' dismay. Kyffin quickly follows suit, cutting down a second cultist with a series of effective swipes. Green was out of reach, so had Kyffin take out red

Starflit's spell proves utterly ineffective -- the cultists ably and easily avoid the flames entirely -- causing her to stumble as she moves past Lothan and Tristain. Fortunately for her, the cultist is more focused on Lothan and doesn't take advantage.

The two cultists not yet engaged in melee cast spells, disappearing from everyone but Tristain and Starflit's sight!

No worries, though I should punish you by having your insibility purge fail because it takes my fun away. :D Same with Point Blank Master. Dumb feat!

Round 2:

Albert: 22
Kyffin: 16
Lothan: 21
Starflit: 20
Blue: 13
Pink: 11

Kyffin removes the invisibility from all the enemies, allowing Starflit and Lothan to wreak havoc. Starflit cuts the three nearest cultists, before Lothan and Kyffin finish two of them off.

The two remaining cultists get a couple of final cuts in, but without their ability to be invisible, or the numbers to flank, you make quick work of them six seconds later.

The cultists who weren't in the air have few items of interest, but the apparent leader still has two scrolls of mass cure serious wounds, plus a +3 breastplate, cloak of resistance +3, headband of alluring charisma +2, and platinum unholy symbol of Hastur, along with 330 gp.

Ha, ha, ha! Yeah, I hear you!

Kyffin tops up his healing (anyone need a taste?) casting CLW on himself.
CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

He collects the loot, ”I thought maybe they had the drop on us there a moment right at the beginning. That fire smarts.” He grins.

When the party has caught it’s collective breath, Kyffin will head up the stairs.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think we can just assume you're healed at this point; no need to track it. There are literally two pages left in this adventure.
