THE PEOPLE DEMAND A SWIM SPEED FOR TOADS!

..or at least the ability to breath underwater..

LETS STOP THIS CAMPAIGN OF HATE AGAINST THE WEBBED WONDERS!

FREE THE TOAD WITHIN!

We, the people, are tired of the continual house-ruling regarding toads - such a pivotal campaign element demands the attention of a writer/designer with at least a semblance of biological knowledge.

Damn it.

..and none of that 'Oh it's a LAND Toad' nonsense!

Change it! Errata! Full re-write! Call in everyone for an emergency meeting! Do not rest until justice has been done!

TOADS - WHY THE HATE YO?

Toad rules

:: One valiant citizen named GeraintElberion suggested applying the [url=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/amphibious-creature]Amphibious Creature[/url template.

Which is ok for our own games but not for PFS..

..hence the rage.

SUCH RAGE! O_O

In real life, Toads cannot breathe underwater. When they were tadpoles, they had gills, but they loose the ability to breathe underwater once they become adults. Same thing goes for frogs. Sorry man, but them's the rules. In real life anyway. Of course you can do whatever you want in your game.

I did some more research and you'll find a lot of people claiming that frogs and toads CAN INDEED breathe underwater. However there are a lot of people who contradict it. Scientists too. So, I guess whatever. I say they can't breathe water. Which is why they have lungs and nostrils.

Frog Breathing

..aye, I had the same trouble finding out the information.

Apparently though, they breath through their skin when underground/mud or in water.

..but as you say, conflicting information.

STILL...

THEY CAN DAMN WELL SWIM!!!!

That there is no confusion about!

I totally agree with you on that. Toss a toad in the water, and it will most certainly swim. It is odd that a swim speed wasn't put in the stat block. Oh well. I'd say 20 feet is fair for a size tiny toad. A giant toad would have a considerably higher swim speed. 60 to 80 feet maybe.

True, but so will an Elephant. Elephants have been known to cross very deep rivers, and even small straits between islands.

They just do so VERY slowly.

To wit, a toad does not NEED a swim speed to swim. It just needs one to be OPTIMIZED for swimming. YMMV.

Dark Archive

Like any creature, a toad can swim by taking 10 on it's swim check and moving half speed. Have you ever seen a toad swim at fish-like speeds? NO! They are clumsy and slimy and taste like chicken and give wizards hp for no good reason. They also cause warts. EWwwwww!

Toads can certainly swim as fast as they hop around on dry land. About that breathing through their skin - they can do taht, but only to cover their basic metabolism (hibernation through winter) otherwise the had better swallowed some air here and there. I'm not sure how well does this work underwater, but it could give the toad the ability to hold breath (something like the lizard folk ability).

Toads deserve no love, unless we are talking of mutant toads.

A march to make them give toads a swim speed?

Fail!

Did I mention we'd be wearing wet suits and flippers?

...and singing the Frog Song?

...and at the end we all dive into the Chairman's coffee and swim around shouting?

Huh? o_O

Youse wants us to kick his butt? {cracks knuckles, picks up metal pipe}

'Course, we slaadi (naturally pro-toad, pro-frog, and pro-snot otter) suspect again the invisible hand of Paizo's hidden protean masters. {gently taps Helm of Tinfoil}

Oh dear...do I dare ask what a snot otter is? It sounds like the kind of thing one should not type into Google image search on a full stomach...

Jagyr Ebonwood: In our defence, we'd just grown our legs and were new to the pond. In those days you'd hop at any chance to make ends meet.

Conventional snot otter, before any fiendish, dire, or other DM modifications.

{scoots farther from campfire, holds flashlight under her face} There's even one lurking around the OTF... somewhere.

I agree !

Let's free comrade Toad from the tyrannical Chelaxian prison of land-boundness and set him free to his native aquatic paradise !

Viva la Revolucion !

Let's all go to the country and free comrade Toad. With a bit of help from everybody, we should be able to collect a lot of toads, and set them free to the nearest river !

Comrade Toad ! We will not fail you !

Better than commie-nazis, though ...
