Okay so the ruler in my kingmaker game doesn't have the best Charisma score so now he wants to take a wife to give his kingdom a little boost. So what I need is a list of possible suitors with good charisma scores. And before any of you post it should be known that he has refused to marry the Old Beldame.

How does he feel about fey? Melianse the nixie has a rocking charisma. My group made her the ruler, but didn't quite anticipate how stubborn and manipulative she would be in the role.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

It's not what she's best suited for, but our Duke married Lily Teskertin .

Have you considered rolling up some noble maidens from Brevoy? The House that she's from might provide some form of BP or other dowry, in exchange for considerations in the future....

See the thread "Deal with the devil", I think it was.

Looks like that might happen in my campaign as well. Given that our Duke is a sorcerer with Craft Wonderous Item, if he was smart, he might give make her a Charisma boost item as a wedding present.

So far this is the list of possible suitors that I have come up with (I know it's incomplete, I don't have War of the River Kings or Sound of a Thousand Screams yet)
Lily Teskertin from #32 (back cover)
Melianse the Nixie from #32
Jemanda Orlashen from #33 (back cover)
Abbot Kara Ilarenika from #33 (notable NPC in Nivakta's Crossing)
Jennavieve Kensen from #34 (back cover)
Emraeli Emfaun from #34 (school teacher from Tatzlford)
Kisandra Numesti from #34
Satinder Morne from #34
Quintessa Maray from #34
Anjana, Galine, Marinda, and Sophelia from #34 (hostages)
Tamary Numesti from #34

Awh, shucks, you guys...

hehe, just having a josh. I submit my awesomest cleric of Sarenrae ever, the light that shines down on all the Stolen Lands - Sunna! Her great deeds in stemming the plague that reared its ugly head in the River Kingdoms surely has made her known across the multiverse! CHA 16, just... watch out for her quick tongue and her flame strike. ;)

In all seriousness, make some lucky gal up. Not too hard with the NPC creator. I just made my cleric's mother up at 5 in the morning. Bonus points if you tweak the skill monkey NPC stat block to give her 7 intelligence and wisdom in exchange for two tremendous Paizo Iconic "talents."

Im made up an npc, as the sister of the lord of Varn, and had them marry about a year before they started Varnhold vanishing

this gave them:

--a connection to the town, and hence mod intro

--a good reason to thoroughly investigate, not steal the treasure in thw town, set fire to it, etc

--more legitimacey to subsume varnhold into their kingdom eventually

Have your Ruler buy a Tome of Leadership and Influence 137,500 GP for +5 to Charisma, less for the smaller options... and find a little honey for him :) Building one is a great Idea, finding a noble from one of the houses is a good idea politically, and using a girl from one of the adventures as Fox45 says is a great idea :) And as king you could have more than One wife... the Royal Harem...

Or you could set up a rulership of a council like the grey council on Babylon 5 at the end 5 from the workers, 2 from religion and 2 from military to run the country :) And from that group elect one as the speaker... or as I do it Wizards instead of Clerics. So 2 from Magic instead of Religion.

This is the best suggestion IMO. Marriages among rulers and nobility are usually about power and alliances. Failing to produce heirs is a major morale killer in a kingdom, because everyone knows what happens when the line of ascendance to the throne is unclear....

Was I the only one who read this and thought of the Princess Bride?

Oh Paizo, however egalitarian you like to believe yourselves, I still get funny looks from my GM when I tell him that my Qadiri High Priestess would like to build a harem from the physically and mentally scared positive charisma modifier male NPCs that litter this AP. I love the Chaotic Good alignment. It truly is the best alignment.

@Dire Mongoose
Prince Humperdink only had a negative Charisma modifier in the book. Good looking out. Hard to imagine finding a Princess Buttercup among the standard faire of the Stolen Lands though, and a Brevoyan noble is likely to have reservations about moving her retinue to the BF-Stolen Lands.

"It's good to be the king."

OK so give the magickal book of +5 Charisma to one of the harem boys or girls or whatever...

The PC ruler in my kingmaker RL game (not my PbP) also sought a new wife. He is a young 17 year old cavalier, and effectively the black sheep of the Surtova family, hating all that they stand for.

Note- This is all between chapter 1 and chapter 2 in the downtime I granted them.

Svetlana is the grand diplomat in their kingdom, and he sent her out to find suitable wives. She reported in a few months later with the following shortlist (just digging up my notes now).

*Rummage through Google Wave*

Ah yes, here they are. I would encourage you to remember that even though the new kingdom is still a small fish in the big pond that is the river kingdoms, their kingdom is still well worth certain factions allying with them- the marriage should be as much about politics as it is about love, even more so in fact.

This is the initial information I gave my player. Note that Kyonin would not normally be interested in a marriage alliance, but the Elf Ranger in the game is a cousin to the Queen in Kyonin.

Svetlana has narrowed down the list of prospective wives to a final five, picked for their beauty, charm, and the potential political alliances that may come from a marriage with them.

Note- Hirudor is the name of the kingdom they founded, Bryskov is their capital city built on the ruins of the Stag Lord's fort.

1. Princess Celestine is a 19 year old girl from the River Kingdom of Daggermark. Daggermark is significantly to the west and a little to the south of Hirudor, but it represents one of the most stable and powerful River Kingdoms, with little to prove. Celestine herself is a small brunette beauty, extremely prim and proper and clearly has led an aristocratic lifestyle- she’s never had to work a day in her life. She is coy and demure, and very subservient.

2. Lady Vythica Medvyed is a noblewoman of House Medyved- daughter to the head of the house, Lord Gurev Medvyed. She is a young, tall, fiery-haired woman of 21, more at home in the Gronzi forest than at court. The lands of Medvyed are full of hardy mountain and forest folk, and their people are considered backwards by the other houses in Brevoy. Worship of Erastil is far more common in their home, and to a lesser extent Lamashtu holds sway too. Vythica is much like an untamed horse, wild and free-spirited, revelling in any freedom she is permitted. She loves hunting, riding and feasting and often accompanies her father on hunts.

3. Lady Canachel (meaning fourth daughter in Elven you are told) is a young half-elf lady of great beauty, hailing from Kyonin. Blonde and slim, she has inherited much of her elven heritage. She is calm and patient, and radiates an aura of peace wherever she goes- evidence of her life in Kyonin, whose inhabitants are far longer-lived than humans. Her father is an advisor in the Queen’s court in Kyonin, and holds a lot of sway in Kyonin. She has never met her human mother. She also appears to be rather intelligent, although you suspect she is not emphasising that part of herself much to you.

4. Lily Teskerton has no noble blood, but has been picked for Svetlana so that the people of Hirudor themselves are represented. A pretty daughter of a local merchant, Lily is sultry and flirty, with a knack for bending men to her will using her looks and charms. She is extremely popular in the capital city of Bryskov, and frequently speaks in the people’s meetings with Nathan, your counsellor.

5. Lady Melisande and her mother recently fled into Hirudor after their father was brutally killed by a mob in Galt. Robbed of their estate and their fortunes, they have focused all of their efforts into charming Svetlana’s agents. Melisande is extremely anxious to please and offers you ‘a taste’ of what would come should you become her betrothed... She is a beautiful young woman, with long blonde hair flowing down to her waist, and large blue eyes.

Lord Nikolaj was torn between Lily Teskerton and Lady Canachel.

Melisande was rejected due to her wantonness, and ended up sleeping with the ugly half-orc inquisitor Royal Assassin in an effort to boost her self-esteem after the rejection.

Medyved was considered too untrustworthy but she ended up spending a lot of time riding in the forests with the Elf Ranger.

Princess Celestine was considered too shy, and Daggermark too far away to be a good alliance.

Lily was eventually rejected as she and Canachel were asked what the kingdom currently needed, Lily answered 'an economic boost to the country' while Lady Canachel answered 'works of art and public areas for the people of this kingdom to take pride in their new nation'.

When asked to give more detail about Lily and Melisande I responded with this-

Lily is a natural beauty that wears very little make up, she seems to effortlessly maintain a good appearance. She has medium length brown hair with elegant curls in it, and a habit of tilting her head and playing with her hair in a flirtatious manner. Shes about 5"6, and has an hourglass figure, and dresses to accentuate it.

Lady Canachel is a little bit smaller, about 5"4. She is beautiful in her own way, but does not seem to flaunt it in any way, her posture is often very humble. Her blonde hair is often kept tied back into a neat ponytail, and her general body shape is small and slim.

Lily is the girl you'd want to dance with at the ball, Canachel is the woman you'd want to sit next to you at a dinner party.

Anyway, wall of text aside, this is something that should be role-played out, and carefully considered by the ruler and the DM.

Alexander,
This is pretty close to how marriages were brokered in our own world for rulers, princes, and the like. Good job. The only thing you left out (and you didn't totally leave it out, very attractive women statistically ARE more fertile) is determining a high probability of producing heirs. For this the traditional marriage brokers would look at things that would be quantified as the woman's constitution and overall health, and how well her mother, grandmother, and sisters handled pregnancy and childbirth. Also, in terms of alliances, there are two classic types:
1) Alliance with a neighbor adjacent to you with the ultimate goal of unifying and growing the combined kingdom (this works well when you're pretty friendly and culturally similar to your neighbor).
2) Alliance with a neighbor of a hostile neighbor (think France & Russia allying against Germany, or France playing off Turkey against an Austria-Hungarian rival state.

What I posted above was only the beginning of discussion about the females. The question was indeed raised- do they have good childbearing hips? Any history of illness?

Sounds like their grand diplomat did due dilligence. It's always refreshing to me to see that (NPC's acting competent within their sphere of supposed competence :-)).

Yes, there's historically been a lot of tradeoff between that and political alliance/advantage (the big Euro royal families come to mind, particularly as some of the lines became very unhealthy). I suppose in D&D, there's also a serious dynastic consideration...depending on how the GM handles the stats of your children, having a very solid mate can make a huge difference if you're thinking about eventually playing your heir.

In our game our King married the woman who was infected with lycanthropy but cured, but he then made the joke later on that he should have married the Silver Dragon from the beginning of Varnhold Vanishing so that he can have a Half Dragon bloodline. :P
