I know there are people out there looking for good character sheets, particularly ones that aren't colour and that incorporate the recent additions. I've been designing some character sheets for Pathfinder (based on the much more complete set I did for D&D 3.5) that I hope people will find useful.

Download the PDF from my website here
(you'll find my 3.5 sheets on the same site)

These sheets feature:

  • Specific sheets for each class (so far I've done all the core classes and 4 of the 6 classes from APG)
  • Designed for high and low levels, with space for plenty of classes, attacks, gear, skills, special abilities and favoured enemies, as well as conditional and temporary modifiers
  • Familiar/Animal Companion and Wild Shape sheets
  • Plenty of inventory space and a Party Funds sheet, for those adventurers whose first thought on approaching the dread doors to an ancient temple is "Can we pinch the hinges?"
  • A whole section of Dungeon Master sheets, including NPCs and maps
  • Consistent styling and soft grays to allow pencil to stand out
  • British spelling, A4 layout
They're very much a work in progress, so do give me feedback.

The sheets look great. I would definitely use them if they had field forms to type the information in as well as allowances to make document modifications to remove pages we don't need. (So I could just have a pdf doc with the pages I needed for a specific class including extra copies of pages like spell book pages.

Silver Crusade

One of the best sheets for PFRPG I've seen. Thanks for your hard work, and I'm definitely using these tomorrow.

Yes, those pages are beautiful. Would you mind if I added it/them to d20pfsrd.com?

Thank you for sharing your work and also providing the source code for it.

Damn postmonster ate my post >:(

Summary:

1) These sheets are awesome! Thanks!
2) What is the NPC sheet you refer to?
3) I'd like to see a party sheet for the GM to keep track of vital stats of all the party members.

I must say, fantastic job here. I'm liking these sheets.

Is the -1 to swim checks for every 5lbs carried an error or has my group been playing without this rule? (If so, where is it in the core rulebook?)

Pardon my carelessness. Both those sheets were part of the 3.5 sheets, and haven't yet been Pathfinderised. Expect them in an upcoming version.

I may have that wrong. It was certainly the case in 3.5 (though a lot of groups overlooked it), and may have been dropped in Pathfinder.

Alright, as long as you link to the website. There are going to be updates as I add and improve bits.

If anybody plays a game with these, I'd like to hear your feedback. Each sheet's design can be a hard balance to get right, so it won't offend me if you suggest improvements.

I'd especially like to hear people's suggestions for dealing with the wealth of alternative class features: class variants, schools, bloodlines, subdomains etc. Each class in Pathfinder is much more varied than it's 3.5 counterpart, so one sheet may not fit all cases.

Liberty's Edge

Absolutely fantastic. However, when I clicked on Monk it showed me the Paladin sheet. Seems the bookmarks are one off. Trivial, but I thought I'd mention it. Otherwise I think they are absolutely pure awesome. Looking forward to future works.

You have an amazing hand with PDF files and I like the progress you have made here. I am going to organize my ideas/feelings into bullets of suggestions and what I like and don't like plus rational, please don't think me cold and emotionless, its just being tired but wanting to get these ideas down before I closed my eyes. I am scrolling page by page though this, so there is no importance of order in which they are listed.

Suggestions:
- Shorten the skill listing and add the knowledges directly related to IDing creatures (Arcana, Dungeoneering, Religion, Nature, Planes) and three more lines only beyond that. Most people are only going to have one or two outside that listing, each class lends itself to a specific type (rogue: local, geography cross; Ranger: geography & arch or history; pals: history, nobility ect.) Still flexibility to include psionics and other performs also but increases space below it.
- Feats & special abilities: I look at that and can see alterations for a specific theme...
Looking at the first page as perhaps being a focus on passive, roleplay outlook; I'd remove the feats and special abilities side entirely, moving the languages up and bring the Origin, appearence and personality blocks from page 21 to the first page as well as notation for traits and create a seperate page for special abilities and feats all by itself. I personally feel that feats and special abilities need three things, a notation as to which book they were found in, a page number and the ability to add a one line summary to describe it. It expidites play with all references easily at hand.
Page 2:If page one was passive/ roleplay focus (skills and identifying attributes) then page two is all about the weapon based characters. I would remove metamagic (feat/special abilities page here) box and alter the page to flow differently, defenses on top (Initiative, speed, saves, Hitpoints, AC and CMD) flowing into attacks on bottom (BAB, CMB and weapons). I would alter weapons to be able to include notations on weapon material and magical traits (dmg increases due to energy being added to weapon) I would also lengthen the box to include notation on feats effecting the weapon (PBS, WF ect)with notes on limitations. I'd corral all ammunition notations together below the weapons listings, to protect the flow. The idea behind this is if I am in combat, I have to go through the decision process of if I am going to move and attack or move and cast a spell, so this being its own page prevents shuffling around to locate information, I either use my combat page for weapon attacks or I use my magic page for magic attacks. A small feats section here may be possible so that listing combat related feats for easy reference, but it wouldn't be a tri-column based notation, more similar to your AC based column. I also don't understand the purpose of the effects column.
- Third page, inventory page, looks great! Love it! Only possible change I would make is a spot for how I am storing things (backpacks, Port hole) and its limitations.
- Four through twelve, interesting but I still suggest the alterations above, I would also heavily suggest page referece requirements for all class abilities, as more books come out, the more powers they will get and more essential easy reference is. I would remove the potions, wands, staffs ect inventory blocks from all class pages and focus on expanding those blocks. Inventory is inventory, keep it together and streamlined with the only exception being adding notes block to magic pages on when inventory would be useful for spellwork.
- Love the party page on 22. Would attach friends and foes and affiliations to a party page focus as well. individual feuds can be noted in origins block.
- 23 & 24; would go from a tricolumn to a bicolumn, include a section for page reference and have a two or three lines of notes or feats that effect spellwork.
- 25 would remove portrait, move equipment over to under SR, DR and expand feats and special abilities, adding tricks to notation.

Everything after 25 is nice but I am a focused player, so I only glanced through it. Someone told me your either a notation based player, taking alot of information down so you rarely reference the book; or a Reference player, taking scant notes and referencing the book regularly. (I am a reference player, who dreams of becoming a notational one) I would think the goal is to get most weapon based characters down to 3 pages with alot of detail, expanding to a fourth for feats and special abilities if needed. Spellcasters should be at 5 pages or so depending on level.

I know theres alot here, sorry if it isn't worth anything to you and happy gaming.

This sheet looks great! I think I'll try it out at our game tomorrow (my character just leveled, so it's about time for a new sheet, anyway :-) )

Some thoughts:
I like the idea of having the skils/abilities on the first sheet and the combat stuff on a separate sheet.

I love the way you do your Funds, with the stacked list of coins and the total. That's a brilliant idea; it makes me wish I'd thought of it myself!

Having a separate sheet for party funds also strikes me as a great since my group generally uses the "grab everything and we'll sort it out later" approach.

The sheets for different classes look pretty well thought-out and have space for most of what I would expect.

I really like the Character background sheet, with the mini character descriptions for NPCs.

A few criticisms:
You have enough space for other skills that I think it would be useful to include some of the optional ones in the list. Craft, Knowledge (maybe 3 lines), Profession, Perform. . . You'd still have a few lines at the bottom to add specific skills if necessary.

It strikes me as a bit odd that the Attacks block has Range as the first piece of text. Looking at it, I can see that it's referring to the line below, but maybe you should have a "Weapon" or "Attack" tag in the upper-left of each segment?

The Mount section on the Cavalier sheet seems a bit odd. There's not enough room to put most of the information necessary for the Mount. I assume I'm to use the Familiar sheet, but then why include the Mount block on this sheet? It's a bit confusing.

Not really a criticism, but I'm curious: What is the diamond map/grid used for?

Wow, the sheets look great!

The only thing I want to let you know is the sheet for "Party Funds" (sheet 22) the boxes for the different money amounts are disappearing, as if it was printed out and it ran out of ink.

I am not sure how that transfers over in making a PDF, but have no skills in making them, so didn't know a different way to describe it. :)

But otherwise look fabulous!

I think the fade out is intentional, I love the effect.

Also, unless I missed something, it appears that there is no Rogue class page.

I'm sure it would be a pain, and the only thing keeping this from being my main sheet is the inability to type info into it (i use a sheet now that calculates a lot of my stuff for me)

... so lazy... can't lift pencil for... 10 more boxes... *collapses*

Finally, while this would quickly become unmanageable as more books are released, it would be cool to have Prestige class pages.

look great I do have one question, why have the changes on the barb sheet been written in and others have them look as part of the sheet layout? Was this done to fit with the barb feel as abit ruogh and ready LOL.

maven009 wrote:

But why have it intentional? I kind of like the boxes as it makes it look neat when writing in the money amounts. But with it faded, you may as well leave the remaining boxes off, completely.

it fades because nearly noone will have millions of platinum

okay, it is flavour, and one could prefer a clear end without fading. But I like it too.

As some have mentioned, the sheets are really well made, and I like that you made one for every class and every possibility.
However as you can't write in them, they are a lot less useful.

Sheets calculating some things aren't necessarily better, but the ability to write in them is quite the decision maker if I choose sheets.

Still, great work and thanks for sharing.

Richard Leonhart wrote:

Heh, that's true. I just wish the fading was on the right side, instead of the left. As I would want to write my monies amount on the left side (and be able to use the boxes).

But really, that's my only complaint of all the sheets, otherwise it's great!

Poor widdle barbarians need all the help they can get, especially with the reading and writing bit.

It would also be cool to have pages for every domain, bloodline and class variant. But I'm not that superhumanly awesome.

maven009 wrote:

If I were designing electronic sheets they'd be very different - it would do far more for you, rather than having all the calculations up front. But electronic sheets are banned in our group, because if the players have an excuse to have a laptop open at the gaming table they'll never pay attention. I spend enough hours at a keyboard already.

If anyone were interested in designing electronic sheets, I'd be happy to discuss designs with them.

maven009 wrote:

There's also no fighter. In both cases, the majority of their class features can be done just by adding notes to the main sheet, so I'm not sure it's worth a whole sheet. But that decision was made for 3.5 and may no longer be true of Pathfinder. If enough people agree that the Fighter or Rogue needs a sheet, I'll reconsider.

Tamago wrote:

Again, that was based on 3.5, where not only are there more base skills filling the page, there are also more campaign-specific skills - particularly psionics, martial adepts, truenaming and the like - to justify lots of space.

There is more space on the Pathfinder skills list, so maybe listing at least the common knowledges would make sense. The others are too variable, as you can always invent a new trade. I can imagine gamers ending up with Knowledge: Aeronautics, Craft: Taxidermy, Profession: Lawyer or Perform: Martial Arts Rhythmic Gymnastics, so I'm not going to try filling in an authoritative list :)

Tamago wrote:

Cavaliers have a distinct connection to their mounts. They can't - as I've seen one ranger do - send their animals to doom and pick another one up on the way out. The Cavalier's sheet may not include any of the important stats for their mount, but the fact of having the creature's name there - and the act of erasing the name to fill another one in - helps reinforce this bond.

Yeah, it's a fuzzy reason. Is the familiar sheet sufficient for mounts, or do they need a separate version?

Tamago wrote:

Isometric-type maps. Like SimCity 2.

Lana Silvertongue wrote:

Every group has a different idea of skills, so cutting the spaces down to three or so lines isn't going to cut it. But I may choose to put some of the standard knowledges on there. If you're nice to me.

Lana Silvertongue wrote:

I'd have said initiative and speed were about attacking, not defending? Unless your turn's action is to run away, which is up to you :)

Lana Silvertongue wrote:

That's what the "Combat Abilities" box is for, but that's not quite clear.

Lana Silvertongue wrote:
I also don't understand the purpose of the effects column.

It's for keeping track of temporary statuses - I'll be invisible for three more rounds, stunned for five, need to remind the DM to give that NPC a Will save for the next two rounds due to that spell, etc.

Roughly speaking, everything with a soft gray border is temporary, and a narrower hard gray border is more permanent. Not that anything is ever permanent in game, even death.

Lana Silvertongue wrote:

A lot of people have asked for the opposite. Whenever I tried to remove the spells, potions and wands from class sheets (on the 3.5 one) there was an outcry against the change! I had people badgering me for months to put inventory for dorjes and tattoos onto psionic class sheets. I still don't know what a dorje is, but it's on the sheet and people are happy.

As for material components, I've not yet met a DM who really enforced that. The general approach is to have a bag of spell components worth XXX and is assumed to contain whatever you need unless it's exceptionally rare or expensive.

Lana Silvertongue wrote:

I've always taken the approach that people should take time out of game to consult the books when they're leveling up, but should try to minimise that when actually playing. Nothing slows down combat like having to check on some obscure rule.

Truly not as needed as a caster's sheets. I would like a rogue's sheet for writing down full details on talents. I am somewhat biased as I am in the middle of making a Rogue/Assassin/Master Spy while I'm browsing the boards today.

OK, I just finished leveling up and converting my 3rd-level Cavalier to your sheet, and I have some feedback. Before I go all nitpicky, let me say that I still think this is a really cool sheet, and I look forward to using it in game!

I'm intrigued by your decision to format the alignment checkboxes as a diamond rather than a square (yes, I know that it's technically just a square shifted by 45º, but still. . . ). I'm used to seeing Good and Evil on the top and bottom, and law/chaos on the right and left. It's personal preference, I suppose, but since I'm not used to seeing them oriented that way, it's difficult for me to eyeball things.

One of the columns on the Skills list is "Racial, Feats, Synergy." There is no Synergy anymore in Pathfinder.

I couldn't find any reference to the "-1 per 5lb" rule for the Swim skill in Pathfinder. I think that may have been removed in the conversion.

With regard to what skills to show, I wouldn't go overboard. However, it would be nice to have one blank each for Craft and Profession, and maybe a few lines for different Knowledge and Perform skills. No need to list them all out, but having a few (say, 3-4) spaces would be nice. If someone needs more than that, they can always put them at the bottom of the list.

Do you really spell it "Maneuvres" over there? Weird; I never noticed that before ;-)

On the inventory page, I, for one, like the fade-out effect.

It would be nice to have a section somewhere (don't ask me where to put it, though) for consumable items. I ended up putting several alchemical items in with my potions, and using the Wands section (with its checkboxes) for some multi-use items or ones where I have a bunch of the same item (e.g. healer's kit, sunrods/torches, etc.)

I personally would like a section for Provisions, though I know that most groups don't track trail rations and the like. Perhaps that section could be integrated with the consumables mentioned above?

On the Cavalier page, I still think that the Mount seems odd. It's not enough information to use in play (I would need space for some combat stats as well as skills/feats/abilities). I like having the charge damage listed like it is, but I'm not sure that alone is enough to justify the inclusion of the block. Personally, I think I would prefer a miniature version of the Familiar sheet on this page. I agree that the Cavalier's Mount is important, and that they shouldn't be thrown away. But it seems strange to have what amounts to a name and a charge bonus on one sheet, and the rest of the information somewhere else.

There are no checkboxes for Challenges Issued Today

I used the Familiar page for my mount's stats. Overall, it's very nice and works well for a mount. A couple of things would be useful:
I'm not sure what the Creature Level/Ranks/LA/Effective Level boxes are for. I ended up just putting his Hit Dice in the Creature Level box, but I'm still somewhat confused.

Since my horse uses barding, it would have been nice to have an "Armour" column for the AC section.

I like the Party Funds feat (especially since I'm our group's treasurer). I particularly enjoy the Quest Items section. It might be nice to have an additional checkbox for "Delivered" or "Completed". Thinking over this, I wonder if a good idea for another page might be a Quest Sheet, with space for different quests and room to track quest items, NPCs involved, rewards, deadlines, and so forth.

The Character Background sheet is cool. I particularly like the Friendly/Hostile scale and the alignment snapshots for the relations. I also enjoy the space for Preferred Clothing and Quirks; I don't often see those on a character sheet.

I hope my input helps. Keep up the great work!

I've had people say it's obviously good on top, and people say it's obviously lawful on top. To both it's completely obvious that their way is right, and they could never use anything else.

The diamond layout lets me fit in icons representing the four directions. These sheets are very wordy, so I always prefer to use graphical rather than text means of showing information if I can. You'll get used to it.

Done. Expect a new version at some point, probably next weekend.

There is (in the 3.5 version, I'll copy it over) a version of the inventory sheet that doesn't have the spells/scrolls/potions (since a lot of the class sheets have those sections, while others don't use them). I could fit consumables onto that?

Tamago wrote:

It's an idea. It would need to be a very cut-down version of the Familiar sheet, probably missing out on things like skills and special abilities in order to fit in less than half the space. Exactly which bits would you want to include and which could be left out?

I think I'd rather let the mount keep it's own sheet, and adjust the Cavalier's sheet to make more sense. Charging is something that the rider and mount do together, so it's not out of place on the Cavalier's sheet, but the stuff at the top might be.

Tamago wrote:

To be honest, I'm not sure I really understand that bit either. That sheet serves quite a lot of purposes: monsters, familiars, animal companions, mounts, animal NPCs, etc. I was never 100% certain of the relationship between levels, Hit Dice and CR. If somebody can explain it to me, I can probably clean up that section.

Excellent work!

I'm really having trouble finding the Wild Shape character sheet, though.

Damn, that's hot! The brittish spelling looks great too. Feels more fantasy for me as a swede, as most english I encounter is american and brittish feels more "old" so to speak.

Just Downloaded these suckers and so far, love em. Looking forward to showing them to my two groups and letting them loose on em.

If I get any good feedback, I'll post them here.

I may have that wrong. It was certainly the case in 3.5 (though a lot of groups overlooked it), and may have been dropped in Pathfinder.

Um actually you do have that wrong in both ways. The rule was from 3.0, not 3.5. In 3.5 they made the penalty double your armor check penalty not -1 per 5 lbs. And in Pathfinder its just your armor check penalty. (Sorry, rules lawyer in me needed to speak out. ;D)

As for the rest of your sheets... Very nice. I really liked the party fund/gear sheet and the background sheet. I might just have to transfer my character onto one of these and try them out. (Of course I'll forgive you the misspelling of armour and maneuvre... silly British-English speakers... ;D j/k But I already fixed that for the pages I'll use. lol)

Scarab Sages

I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong here, but under the skills and the abilities, where it says "ability" modifier", the abbreviation of the ability name is there, instead of a blank box?

This makes it hard to write in the ability modifier, is it supposed to be like this?

Scarab Sages

No love for the Summonder? Or the Eidolon?

What's up with that?

Very nice and well made sheets!

Minor error: Ranger's caster level was changed in PF to "ranger level - 3" instead of divided by 2. (page 14)

Shadow Lodge

I really like these sheets! Just curious how these print out in 8.5x11, or if I need to pony up and go buy some A4 sized paper :)

Scarab Sages

Just wanted to elaborate on my previous question

On the character sheets, where ever there is a box to input an ability modifier, instead of being a blank box, the ability's shortened name is there (str, dex, etc). Having that there makes this very hard to use, asi can't write over the top of the text without it looking confusing.

Just wondering if this is a design feature, or if i have done something wrong?

It's on ther CMB and CMD boxes as well, stopping you from writing down the sum of your CMB and CMD bonuses.

Pretty nice sheets - I very much like the separate column for ACP on skills, and the lined up copper/silver/etc. I'm not sure about having skills and attacks on opposite sides, but it somewhat works with Salama's sheet folded, so I can see it.

Barbarians aren't illiterate anymore by the way (by which I mean they shouldn't have the "Illiteracy" feature listed, not a comment on the fun sheet notes).

I made these sheets first for my own gaming group, so I made sure to use proper British spelling (mistakes aside) and an A4 layout. Enough of the gaming world is American that I felt justified in this. Sorry, new world. :)

If you set the borders small and auto-scale/centre the print, they should be acceptable on other paper sizes. But for the full effect, get A4 paper if you can. Also brew a cup of tea and start complaining about the weather.

I suppose it should be possible to convert the sheets to a different size - they are open source, after all - but that would be a lot of work now.

It's a way of saving space. The abbreviated ability name should be light enough that you can write over it. Perhaps your printer is making it too dark?

More generally, I realise my designs won't be to everyone's taste, as people want different things out of character sheets.

No worries, wasn't complaining. I will probably end up grabbing a ream of A4 paper to print these out, they are just way to to stylish to not use. Very nice work on these, gonna use these for my game this week and Ill let you know how they work out in practice.

Oh okay then, i found that writing in the light pencil i like to use made it impossible to read the text unless i was looking straight onto the sheet.

So i've used a pdf editing program to erase the text in areas where i write numbers down.

I really like the look of these sheets, can't wait to use it in my next game.

Awesome sheet! I especially love font for the barbarian sheet.

Small note, the barbarian might rage is listed as 7/7 not 8/8

Awesome work
I'll print a bunch of sheets for my players and see how they like it.

Thanks!

Great Sheet. Nice to see one with 'enough' spaces for weapons. I tend to be the guy with 4-6 different weapons.

I find the British spelling to be very "flavourful." After all, the setting is mostly based on Medieval Western Europe ;)

Also, I find that if I scale the sheet and print on 8.5x11, it looks fine. It also adds a bit more to the margin, so I have extra space for writing in notes.

It's a way of saving space. The abbreviated ability name should be light enough that you can write over it. Perhaps your printer is making it too dark?

I can read them, but especially if Mandreth's printer is set to fairly dark output, I could see how they might be troublesome. Maybe they could be lightened a bit? It might also help to make the letters thinner; the font used is pretty bold.

Of course, it's your sheet, so you're entitled to do what you like! :-)

New version published, now with the last the classes from the Advanced Players' Guide: the Oracle and Eidolon (and his attached Summoner). What I need to do next is adjust the Core classes to account for their expanded options - for example, more room on the Ranger sheet for a combat specialisation beyond the two given.

I've also adjusted the Inventory page to match the item slots given in the Core Rulebook. I don't know if they've changed from 3.5 - I never did track down a definitive list. And don't forget about the Party Funds sheet.

Opinion wanted!

I've been working on the NPC sheet, and I'd like people's opinions on two versions I've uploaded:

Version 1 and Version 2

The differences are on the right hand side, with the layout of the various combat elements, particularly the HP and the Combat Maneuvres. Any other opinions also welcome of course.

Awesome work, really. I love this.

Great sheet! There are two things I'd like to suggest, feel free to disregard: first, the absence of black makes the sheet a bit washed out. Using black everywhere isn't necessary, but it might help with some of the text. Second, as others have said, make it fillable! JamestheBard did a fillable version of Neceros' sheet and it's quite nice.

Personally I prefer the second version of the NPC sheet, with Init and attack stats at the top. Thanks for the effort!

They do look great but there are too many sheets for each class. I don't want a book to look through to find the info I want. More data on less paper would be better imo.

I really like this sheet. It's very well made for all classes. I'm going to have to nab this sheet :) Be useful in my RL game.

I may be wrong, being a damned Yank and all, but isn't the proper British spelling "manoeuvre"?

If somebody else wants to make a fillable version of my sheets they're welcome to, and I'd even distribute it with the originals - they're open source, after all. Sorry, but I'm not going to make them fillable myself - it's way too much work. Partly, I think, because I'm ambitious and perfectionist, I'd try to make the fillable fields do too much, and have to get them just right.

There's room in the market for more than one kind of character sheet. My approach is to use the extra space to include all the details other sheets leave out, particularly class-specific things that often get overlooked in the heat of battle.

If you prefer a more minimal sheet design, if you have an idea how it can be done, then I seriously urge you to have a go at designing it. I'll give feedback and help with technical stuff where I can, and even share publicity if I think the result is good. The creation of a good set of minimal character sheets for Pathfinder can only be a good thing.

Yes, I keep getting that one wrong. :(
