Character Profile Wiped

Sovereign Court

Went to edit one of my aliases for a PbP today, but its been completely wiped other than the name and avatar. I do not believe this was not due to an error or oversight on my part, for even if I somehow accidentally deleted the main profile area the stuff in the boxes would have remained.

Is there anything that can be done about this, and is it happening to anyone else?

They've said in other places that they have no way to restore the information. It was actually recommended to check to see if Google archived a copy and has worked for at least one other person, but if yours is there I've been unable to locate it.

Sovereign Court

Yeah I have seen the other topics and I'm also unable to locate a cached copy. I'm aware they can't restore the data but I'd like to know what happened to randomly wipe my character as I know I didn't do it myself and I'd prefer it not to happen to my other aliases at some point too.

It's here in Google Cache.

(I've saved it in case it disappears before you can access it.)

My DM profile vanished. Since I had the links for pcs and maps in it for the five pbp games I'm running, along with vital information about their XP totals --- this counts as a pretty major disaster for me.

I'm aware that I'm probably going to have to rebuild it from scratch, but I'd love to know why it happened and if there's anything I can do to stop it happening again.

The horrible empty space ...

Sovereign Court

@ Rev- I was wondering if other people's aliases got wiped at the same time, I wonder if we will see more.

@Fayries- Thank you so much for your help, thats him a level ago but we only just levelled so it will save me a huge amount of hassle trying to remember everything- again, many thanks to you, your a star :)

Good point. I was in there at about 11am UK time updating some XP. Looked again a few hours later to check someone's init bonus and saw only empty space.

It will probably not be ideal, but Google currently stores a copy of your profile dated June, 30th.

Oh, and for those wondering, the Google query is: "Rev DM's page" site:paizo.com.

Never have truer words been spoken. Thank you!

That's an enormous amount of time saved.

If this happens again, please email webmaster@paizo.com with a link to the blank profile, and please don't edit the profile until I've had a chance to look at it. Thanks.

I will do that. Could be in anyway connected to the ludicrous number of avatars I've got lurking? Or even the still more ludicrous amount of posting I do?

I honestly don't know what it might be related to yet. But it stands to reason that rare bugs will happen more often to people who post a lot...

I've had the same problem with lists myself:

For now I'm holding off on manually redoing anything until Gary has a chance to have a look, but yeah... disastrous is a good word for this sort of thing. I'd definitely love to know how to avoid any further recurrences.

I have a theory about what might contribute to this problem. For now it looks like the safest approach will be to stick to editing a single thing (profile or list) at a time.

Sovereign Court

Fayries or anyone else, can you work your magic and try and locate a cached version of one of my players characters, I believe he was editing two characters at the same time and one overwrote the other. Unconfirmed though.

This is the character, hes atempting to rebuild it but it may take some time- Sir Edric and thats the URL to search for I guess?

Edit- I found a cached version of him at level 1, any way we can find a more recent cached level 2 version?

AK: Basically just go to Google.com and paste the URL in the search field. At the end of the search result, you should find a link that says "Cached".

Here's the current cached copy that I was able to locate (June 25th):

I figured it out in the end (see my edit), i'm just wondering if theres a chance of getting a more recent one?

Was searching around how to retrive a lost profile, as it happened to one of my characters as well, Bahiyy al Din is totally empty suddenly. Found a cache, this helped!

I can definitely say that one character was overwriting another...I have a summoner and an eidolon defined as 2 separate characters, was updating both and they switched around, TzeTings details in Solaria's profile and Solaria's details in TzeTing's profile. I managed to get back TzeTing my eidolon by using Lazarus plugin, and thanks to this thread I found Solaria Jesari my summoner in cache on google. Still to put her back together though.

I'm 99% sure we've identified the source of this problem, and we're testing the fix now. Hopefully we'll roll out the new code later today or tomorrow and this reign of error will be at an end.

Thanks to Gary's tireless hard work, this should be all patched up. All due caution, of course, but I think we can put this one to bed.

Sovereign Court

Thanks for keeping us informed guys, it had hit several of my players in the same two week period so i'm grateful.

Thanks Gary, glad you got to the bottom of it.
