I think the Magus iconic should be a female dwarf (I think on the "what I want from Ultimate Magic" thread someone else said that very thing... and I wholeheartedly agree). We don't have a female dwarf iconic, but we have plenty of human iconics (whether male or female). The reasons he cited are reasons I agree with as well.
Although I do like the Mwangi Expanse mind you... my high-level Monday night game began in the Expanse.
Guess we will see... sooner or later... right?

Actually, I see this one as an elf, a.k.a. the race that is all about arcane magic and swords.
On the other hand, Sel already looks relatively elven and is the guy with sword and spell. Doesn't mean we can't have another elf chick, though.
Think about it - a pretty female elf arcanist. Wizards failed utterly with Mialee, and PFRPG is all about showing wizards how to do things.

I think a halfling would be great. No one would expect a strong melee threat from a halfling, but if you could make one with a magus by using various magic buffing and abilities, that would be a great breaking from the more traditional medium sized fighter types.
/threadjack
I had a gestalt halfling fighter/rogue leaning towards a crit build that could get in some thoroughly nasty full-round attacks. It wasn't always possible to set up the "full blast" with bleeding criticals and nasty sneak attacks (dual-wielding kukris naturally), but when he did...look out! Most enemies would overlook him for either the paladin or the barbarian in the group, and many did to their peril. *evil grin*/end threadjack
I second the request for an elf magus iconic, though. Seems very elven to me. /salute!

A female dwarf iconic is certainly long overdue and I can put my voice behind that one. In some ways, this may be my primary vote, but take into account the upcoming Ultimate Combat. If there is a new base class in there then a female dwarf may be a better choice for that iconic.
An elf iconic is understandable given their history of mixing magic with melee, but we have alot of elf and half-elf iconics! (Likewise, please no more humans!) But in the end, I can understand if the choice to go with an elf or half-elf is made.
A halfling (male or female) iconic is a great choice given their dextrous nature. We really need a good, intimidating halfling!
But regardless, please, no more white hair! Yes, white hair looks bad-@$$ on elves and youth. But there's way too much, now. You'll burn it out.

But with all the Lovecraft influence in Golarion, maybe a number of these adventurers have just seen too much...

I think with the Inner Sea World Guide coming out shortly before, it would be a perfect time to feature a character that takes advantage of the new firearms rules designed specifically for the Pathfinder system. I think there is a lot of untapped potential in the uniqueness of the rarity in such weapons.

If they never do one, it still won't be overdue. Paizo doesn't want to scare their customers away in troves.
but we have alot of elf and half-elf iconics!
"a lot". Two words really.
Anyway, two elves and a half-elf is neither a lot nor alot.
Plus, elves are sexy, and sex sells.
(Likewise, please no more humans!)
Golarion is a world of humans. Humans are far more numerous than the other 6 standard races combined. Thus, there will always be a lot of humans in the iconics. Right now, there are more human iconics than iconics of all other races combined. I don't think that will change.

Be careful, you're opening a major can of worms here. The amount of emotional attachment/disdain for firearms in fantasy is only slightly smaller than for psionics, and we all know how do the psionics threads end :)

I still think that the name for the class is totally off base.
After all the word magus equals MAGE! That's the title for a wizard not someone who part times with swords. It can't be that all the good names for such a class were taken. I can think of a few better ones off the bat.
Blade Arcane,
Dwoermeredge
Spellstriker
Arcane Warrior,
Mystic Blade,
Mage Blade... oh Monte Cook has that one.

Just as a heads up, we'll be revealing the new iconic by the end of the month as part one of the Ultimate Magic play test. I think many folks might be surprised by what we went with. Regardless, we just got Wayne's final at in and (personally) I couldn't be more delighted. Although those looking for a balance among the iconics' hair colors might be disappointed. :P

We've never been in the market for using compound or made-up words as the titles of new classes (or changing the magus's name at this point, I'm just explaining our philosophy). Naming this class is something we struggled with. As Merriam-Webster doesn't have a lot of demand for a word that means "fighter/magic-user," there's not a good existing touchstone for us to just pick-up, as we'd prefer. So in this case we're hijacking a word and turning it to our own use.
This is similar to the situation we saw 10 years at the beginning of 3rd edition with "sorcerer" and "wizard." Any dictionary presents those words as synonyms, but now roleplayers can go on and on enumerating the differences. Until the magus comes out and we define its meaning with a class distinct from other spell casters I can appreciate some folks' confusion, but I'm sure that this time next year players will make the distinction with no problem.

Wayne who? I assume you mean the artist right? I've been thinking more and more lately about looking into what artists in particular you have been using for your iconics and the like.

Shoanti iconic FTW.
Or an iconic wearing a hood. Those have been in short supply...

I think I'm going crazy, I've made that same mistake twice in the last two days. The weird thing is that I almost always skim over my posts before posting them but seem to have acquired a blindspot for that!

Non-human iconics so far: female elf rogue, male dwarf ranger, male halfling bard, female gnome druid, male half-elf fighter/wizard; male half-elf alchemist, female half-orc inquisitor, male gnome summoner.
Dwarf- 1
Elf- 1
Gnome- 2
Half-Elf- 2
Half-Orc- 1
Halfling- 1
If Paizo is interested in non-human symmetry, then the magus iconic will be a dwarf, elf, or halfling; considering that its harder to market half-orcs (based on comments from the roll-out of the first 12 iconics), I doubt they'll choose another so soon after the inquisitor. Elf is the most probable IMO, considering the game's history.
Or it could be another human. I guess we'll see in the next few weeks.

Fraid your wrong. Damiel, the iconic alchemist is an Elf, full-blooded. Born in Kyonin. Read the blog bio.
