Same kind of show, but Elvira wasn't involved. We didn't get Elvira on the West Coast as far as I know (but then again, growing up, we only had 3 TV channels to choose from anyway...).

Gah. I remember the three channel days. What were your favorite TV shows while growing up?

More specifically, what did you think of MY favorite TV show. M*A*S*H*

Watching that show was a nightly Event in our house.

It was with my grandparents too. They would watch the reruns every night while eating their tv dinners on their tv trays.

When it comes to slavishly watching a series on a regular basis, I have to say I'm partial to WKRP.

Speaking of that, James, how awesome was WKRP?

;)

Dark Archive

I was always partial to Buck Rodgers and the A-Team myself.

Not sure if you saw this...

Anyway I got a few more channels back in the day, but I preferred the B-movies they showed after school (3-4 pm) on the syndication only channel. Attack of the Giant Spiders! The Blob!
Good times.

This made me think about my collection of Dragon magazines (from #58 to the end, with a handful of older ones), which I've recently decided to try to sell (except the ones with tie ins to the Age of Worms and Savage time).

What do you recommend as the best way to sell them taking both money earned and time spend? Ebay? Half price books? Wait until the Gen Con auction?

Go with either ebay or the Gen Con auction. Half Price books will probalby give you like a nickel per magaizine; they're not likely to realize the actual value of the collection, and even if they DID, they'd be unlikely to be able to do much with 300 magazines.

Certain HPBs are getting savvy about pricing these higher when reselling them. Not sure what they'd buy them for, but here in Ohio I've been seeing them resell the magazine anywhere from $0.50 to $1.00 apiece and some of the 3.5 books are starting to be sold at their cover price (and marked as OOP to designate it as an exception). Just saw that last week for a used DMG 3.5 as a friend of mine is looking to replace his that's falling apart.

speaking of the Loony Toons, an online top 100(i think) placed them at number 2 I believe, and the Simpsons at 1.

I for one find this to be insanely stupid and illogical as to me the Loony Toons are the forerunner for all other cartoons, period. There are characters whom people of all ages and mentalities can like and I have been able to watch episodes with my Dad, my Mom and even my grandparents.

Do you think the Loony Toons are the best cartoons ever?

Loony Toons are definitely cool, but, like the Simpsons, not all of them individually are great. And some of them are, unfortunately, tainted by racism or other ignorance of the times, which does kind of lessen the enjoyment I get from some of them.

I actually would agree with the placement of the Simpsons at the #1 spot for cartoons, though. Like them or not... they must be doing SOMETHING right to have stayed on TV for so long. Isn't the show the longest-running comedy of all time now? The fact that there are people in college today who were never alive in a world without the Simpsons is kind of sobering...

Star Trek
Gilligan's Island

I never really watched M*A*S*H growing up that religiously, although as I got into the last years of High School I finally realized how brilliant the show was. I watched an AWFUL lot of it in college.

Huh... interesting. It really does depend on which one you go to, though.

And nonetheless... looking at my collection of Dragon from 81 to 359 or so... that's not an easy thing to haul around or to display for sale in a store OR to store in a warehouse. Which is also why my gut tells me ebay and the Gen Con auction are better options.

How do you feel about Pathfinder having it's own page on TVtropes.com?

On a related note, where have Paladins of Asmodeus been mentioned?

Paladins of Asmodeus got mentioned in the article on Asmodeus in Pathfinder #29, I believe. But they shouldn't have been mention at all, because the idea is illogical and I really wish I'd seen it before it went to print.

Pathfinder on TVtropes.com is kinda cool, though.

Umm, I had a look over that page and noticed that in the 'Shout out' section (as of the time of my posting this) they'd picked up on the Slor reference in the first edition of the Campaign Setting... They've also put two and two together and linked it with Ghostbusters.

Oh, they picked up the paladins of Asmodeus too...

So Sean was (apparently) partially channelling Asmodeus as a classic 'Draco in Leather Pants' when he wrote that article...

Does this mean gritted teeth and Paladins of Asmodeus staying (for now) in the setting?
(Darnit, I'm throwing one of this year's top 32+alternates a perfectly good archetype idea here, but maybe the Paladin of Asmodeus as a chaos-smiting paladin variant? (Who still have to be LG or they faaaaaaall.))

Only if your GM, or if you AS the GM, want them to be in the setting.

Officially, though, they're not going to be mentioned again in any books and if we reprint that article about Asmodeus the mention of his paladins will be removed.

Just curious as I have 3 of my 6 players using APG classes.

The alchemist is the one I'm happiest with, but then again I designed the original class for the alchemist so I've got some personal interest in that one! :)

The one I'm the least happiest with is the summoner. It was easily the TOUGHEST class to build in the book, and a lot of people really got into it because it's first version was so powerful, but I think that we were a bit too timid in ramping back that power for the final book. Druid animal companions are already REALLY good, but using that system for a creature that's intelligent out of the box AND making it as customizble as it ended up being ended up with too powerful a class, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong; I think it works fine... the problem is that it's TOO open and that allows numbercrunchers to push the system too far. If I had my way, I would have ramped back on the options for ediolon building, to be honest.

Dear James,
Are you as saddened about the decline of the DDM line as I am? I can only hope the pathfinder minis bring me more monsters to help my miniatures addiction. I have all the released monsters so far.

On a related note, will we ever see "cheap" minis like DDM for Pathfinder? Some of us suck at assembling and painting minis and would greatly appreciate it.

I very much prefer metal miniatures. I have a large enough collection of D&D minis from the first 3 or 4 sets to keep me busy for my games as well, and I stopped collecting them a while back. The fact that the paint jobs on the minis ranged from serviceable to terrible (I never saw a paint job that came close to matching a good painted metal mini), and that the minis themselves were often not detailed enough for my tastes further made me not all that into the D&D Minis line. And finally, with the latest sets, the fact that the minis embraced an incarnation of the game that I had little interest in playing anyway even further removed them from my interest.

Now, that said, I do feel sad that the minis line is done. Not nearly as sad as I was to see Dragon and Dungeon go, or to see 3rd edition go, or to see Eilistraee and much of the Forgotten Realms go, or to see so many of the game's traditions go (such as succubi as demons), but at the same time I realized that things move on. There's always something new to get into, and while it's sad that D&D minis are done, there'll be something to replace them in the future. Who knows what it'll be?

Evil Lincoln wrote:

I'm not sure what you mean by "Top 5 mythos" at all, but my top five Lovecraft stories are:

1) At the Mountains of Madness
2) The Colour out of Space
3) The Shadow Over Innsmouth
4) Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath
5) The Dunwich Horror

That's actually kind of hard to do, because once I hit 4 and 5, there's like 20 stories that could fit in that category...

Don't be a jerk to other fans of RPGs. We are all part of a niche hobby, and when we get snarky and argue and fight it does no one any good. Accept the fact that other people like other games, and learn to accept that as a benefit rather than something to get angry about.

Strictly in your opinion, why does it seem like most discussion about rules and/or play style devolve to a back and forth that can best be described as "you don't do it like I do so you are doing it wrong?"
