Actually, yeah, I AM pretty happy with 40. My life is WAY better now than it was when I was either 19 or 21. :)

(I really don't understand the whole 'pretending to be younger' thing that people do. I'm perfectly happy to get old.)

Meh. I'll be 40 in June. Still act like I'm 25 though, so what's the difference?

As a side note, why do women lie about their age? I mean really, if you start dating 'seriously', sooner or later the truth will come out. Then you get to explain to your SO why your whole relationship started with a lie. A lie about something that's really trivial, which to my point of view, makes it even MORE annoying.

Bah, I've never bothered with that. I've been mistaken for being about 10 years older than I am, and 10 years younger. It totally doesn't matter. :)

I figure when I get to the point where I decide my life is totally downhill from there, it means I've given up on the good things in the future that life has to offer.

I find it annoying that one of my cats talks to everyone in the house but me. She is the only cat I've ever met that doesn't like me. The only time she will let me near her is when I go in to give my daughters kisses before I leave for work in the morning. (I leave for work before everyone else gets out of bed.)

Clearly, the cat has brain damage.

when I was in kindergarten we adopted a cat. Her littermate was adopted by our next door neighbor, Sharie. Well, Sharie's kitten would leap from one side of the stairwell to the attic to the other. back and forth. back and forth. Until it missed one time, and fell. Sharie heard it "thump!" and checked...and found the kitten, not breathing, on the carpeted steps. She administered CPR...and revived Henry!

Henry was never right in the head after that, though. He literally was brain damaged. the only arguement was...did the fall and lack of oxygen do it? or was the back and forth jumping the first sign?

His sister Snowball (our cat) hated everyone, terrified every human in the household, stopped a house robber once, and loved to kill goldfinches. Only the male ones.

O.o

See? I keep telling you cats are ebil!

I've never denied their evil nature. They are cute enough that I forgive them much more than I probably should! :)

That turned out to be a very timely link. I've been wanting to improve my writing skills (all engineering classes and no creative writing classes in college make Tordek a dull writer). I just happened to be at HPB today and picked up a copy, plus a copy of this.

Thanks Leafy for the inspiration.

Yep, that's what I bought today. I found the third edition of The Elements of Style at HPB.

At the same time, my parents were experiencing the wonders of Half Price Books for the first time.

Woo-hoo! (Sorry, I didn't get that you bought both books. Oh well, one can't link to Strunk too often.)

Absolutely, just what i need, more books!

Hm....

::rummages through bag o' books::

Jhereg, Yendi and Teckla by Steven Brust (I'm assuming I'll never get the omnibus edition back from Derek at this point),
Skyfall by Harry Harrison (Like the stainless steel rat books, this seems like more serious fare. whoo!)
Escape Velocity by Christopher Stasheff (I think it's the only Warlock, Warlock's Heirs or Rogue Wizard book I don't own)
The Witches of Wenshar by Barbara Hambly (sequel to The Ladies of Mandrigyn. I like the Sunwolf books...I don't own any until this one, but read them as a kid!)
Jonathan Strange by Norrell (looked interesting)
Rides a Dread Legion by Raymond E. Feist
Tales of the Dying Earth by Jack Vance (never read Jack Vance, figure I should!)
and
Teach Yourself Japanese - looks like a good self help book on Japanese. I'm losing my vocabulary and never had the grammar. I buy Japanese books occasionally to see if one will help me figure out "wa" and "ga" once and for all...

Cool. Except for the last one. Just use "gwa" and call it good.

So, after a rough start last night, the boy did rather well. Woke to eat at midnight and 2 am, then slept for over 4 hours.

In other news, however, he is a dangerous one to diaper change...

(Warning: spoilered in case some people are eating, very gross information contained in the following spoiler tag)

** spoiler omitted **

Ha!

Spoiler:
My first time changing the boy was in the hospital. Lifted the legs, just finished wiping when his butt exploded. And it was that black tarry stuff that is the first stuff out of them. All over the table (and me).

After that, changing diapers was easy.

Ok - this year's FAFSA has improved. The only upside to having three kids in college at the same time is that the FAFSA transfers the financial information easily to each child's form. I just wish it wouldn't snicker each time I clicked "submit"

Walked in the door from our gaming session and WHAM! The tornado sirens went off. We're now hunkered down in the basement with the dogs, waiting for Doom to visit.

On the good side, I have coffee. And it looks like we have half an hour until Doom arrives. We should call for pizza.

They say some animals can sense the approaching storm. Puffins, seemingly, cannot. :P

Maybe about five minutes until Doom arrives. This sucker's fast. Faster than we're allowed to drive.

Edit: And the puffin has gone to save his Pathfinder material. Mine is here with me.

It's remarkable that we live in a time when you can ride out a tornado without losing power or internet, and even if power and the cable internet failed lots of people would still be connected by smart phones. Remarkable!
