Sorry, Lynora.

What the hell? The news people say the price of coffee is going up.

But....but....coffee....must have.... damn it all. :(

(Heh. As long as it doesn't go up too much I'll be fine. I buy my coffee beans at Trader Joe's and it's about two dollars less expensive per canister than what I was buying before so I've got some wiggle room there. But the grocery budget is getting a bit insane.)

How bad do you think it is for us? You remember the way I eat. :(

Yeah, I have a hard enough time keeping up with one growing kid, three has to be worse. Sometimes I wonder how my parents ever managed it. And you don't eat that much. :)

The only Trader Joe's coffee I've had is the instant, which my wife's family likes. EEEWWW!!!

Ugh! Eeewww! indeed. Instant coffee is an affront against humanity.

It's still better than no coffee though.

No, I buy the whole bean Sumatra. I prefer the Kona, but I really can't afford it. The beans are just as good as what I was buying from the coffee house, just less expensive.

Well, I'm not sure I agree that it's better than no coffee. The only instant coffee that I've ever tasted that did not make me want to call fire down from heaven was Starbucks. They have clearly taken instant technology far beyond everybody else.

When the caffeine withdrawal headache hits I'd drink mud if it would stop the vision blurring headache. :/

Besides, if you add enough sugar it's almost not horrible.
I haven't tried the Starbucks instant yet. Then again the only reason I would is if I was traveling and I rarely travel.

Nah; that would've been Four Loko. But the smack has been put down thoroughly on them. No more of that energy in your 12% alcohol 40 oz for a buck ninety-nine.

It only delays the inevitable.

You ever actually drink that stuff? It was in the same class as Thunderbird or other 'shotgun' drinks. You know, the kind a friend needs to hod a shotgun to your head to make you drink it...

Yeah, I actually drank it. Not my beverage of choice, but the fact that it's cheap and accessible than my preferred alternative of a jagerbomb was the main issue that the attorney general(s) had (and in a sense, I agree with them - to a degree).

What you've described ... is how I feel about beer. And coffee.

Sadly the late 90's and early 2000's Australian punk scene has passed its use by date.....

I am trying very hard to like Australian Hip Hop and it is very very different to US Hip Hop and rap but its just not working for me...

Honestly, the wording is just odd/poor. I wonder if he does that just to incite, because after that long thread before on cheesecake I think he is just really bad at being diplomatic and gets upset that *someone else* would like him to be more diplomatic.
To me the whole idea is ludicrous. I hear a lot of this from others. "The Jews are taking over the media." "The Zionists are ruining America". These are buzz words for white supremacists/Neo-Nazis.
Yeah, that's where I knew it from too. I'm just not sure of the context for it in his post, though. I guess I'm just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm either an optimist or a masochist.

Well, you could always just ask me. I'm happy to explain.

My position is essentially neutrality for the United States in what is a very sticky mess in Palestine/Israel. I don't believe our interference has done much good. I think we should have stayed out of it at the beginning, but I acknowledge that we cannot chnage the past. I do think that we've been very one-sided in the role we've played, and this has actually made things worse, not better.

I'm not hoping to see Israel destroyed, if that's what you're worried about. I think they can defend themsleves just fine. They very likely have nukes, although this has not been officially admitted.

I am concerned about human rights abuses against the Palestinians.
I'm also sympathetic to Israeli victims of terrorism. I don't see a contradiction in those concerns.

Have you read up on Tom Segev or the 'post-Zionists'? Some Israelis believe that Israel must create a post-Zionist national identity, with full civil rights for Arabs, Jews, and all other Israeli citizens.
I am in full sympathy with that goal, but I think it's something Israelis will have to do pretty much on their own.

It's frustrating that certain people assume that anyone who isn't a card carrying AIPAC booster must 'hate the Jews.' I wonder what those folks think of Jews who don't support the occupation of Palestinian territory, settlement policy, embargo in Gaza, etc.?

I'm beginning to get the feeling that talking too much on Facebook (or anywhere else online) about politics/religion/other "controversial" topic lessens my enjoyment of the site involved? I know and actually like so many people with different social viewpoints, but it's frustrating to see so many of them spouting off.

I suppose I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't a blatant reminder that, were it not for a common interest in RPGs or some other connection, I probably would not be friends with them.

Of course, I usually feel this way when I see them involved in heated posts on something about which they know very little or are badly misinformed, at the very least...just because you're smart, it doesn't mean you have all the facts. (And if you argue vehemently without a firm grasp of the facts, you're essentially arguing from a faith-based position...boy, wouldn't that idea make some people mad?)

Anyway...it just makes me sad to see so many of my friends on both ends of the spectrum going off like that. It really makes me worry about the world my children will grow up to be part of. There is no world in which a single person or ideology is totally right. Failure to admit that another person's viewpoint may have some merit is the ultimate in hubris.

How can I teach my children to listen, think, and act with kindness, generosity, and compassion when such behavior begins to fade in even the closest of circles?
