Well you could do what I did, I took the scientific name for the superorder family name of the species and then applied it, if not slightly altered, as a name for my species.
Turtles are reptiles of the order Testudines (the crown group of the superorder Chelonia)

By the way, check out my species and give them a rate, I've revised them a heck of a lot since last I posted them on these boards. They are probably near perfect balance and a pretty cool species too in my opinion. Just don't pull them out into an arctic setting unless you're feeling frisky!
As for helping you with names aside from what I've already offered as advice.
Thamnophis elegans terrestris, Serpentes, Squamata, Reptilia,
Hmm.. This one may fit well. Sphenodontia

Perhaps, Sphenodians.

"Lacerta" is latin for lizard.
"Sobek" is the ancient egyptan god for crocodiles, power, protection, and fertility.
"Sauros" is greek for lizard.
With a little fantasy either could be changed to make a "kewl" name imho.
Good luck with your new race god ;0)
Cheers!
EDIT: Depending on how scientific you want to be. I suppose the correct name would be something like "Homo lacerta" hehe

What would they call themselves vs. what others would call them.
Mac the Fighter: Come on Lizardman, we've got orcs to slay.
Histhisis the Ranger: "Do not call me Lizardman! Do I call you hairless ape? I am Hissthisis, proud warrior of Blue Tongue Tribe. My race is Tsobekai, it means "Children of the Crocodile Queen" and you would do well to show me respect."
Mac the Fighter: "If the cultural sensitivity training is done I'd like to go kill orcs and take their stuff now."
Histhisis the Ranger: "... I am taking Human as my next favoured enemy."

What were those lizard-dudes called on Farscape? They were cool.
The Farscape species were The Scarran.
My question is why when it comes to naming a species that resembles an animal do people tend to go for something deritive from a real world animal? Reptiliad...Wolfen...etc. Elves arent called "dagger-ears" and dwarves aren't called "shorty-beards" as a species name...unless one is trying to rude. I would say think more about what the species language mght sound like and name them based on that.
I personally prefer original names for a species that doesn't draw on an animal name.

I kind of like single syllable names. Ever notice how nearly all of the really iconic races are single syllable: Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Orc, Drow.
I mean, there's Human, Halfling and Goblin. Two syllables, but as a rule of thumb, I think one syllable works nicely.
Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved had a draconic race called the Mojh. I doubt that's what you are looking for, though.
Honestly, I'd just pick one of the fine suggestions above and try and shorten it to one syllable.

They call humans Man.
Doesn't get more iconic than that. And all the other races have a name in their language.Elves = Telquesir, Touel'alfar, eledhel, et. All.
Halflings = Hin
I may be wrong about gnomes and orcs.
