Liberty's Edge

This thread is for you to post the heroic things you hear of or see! There are many deeds deserved of praise that don't make it on the news, everyday things that people should be congratulated for!

For example: just today I heard that our very own Ambrosia Slaad stood up for what she believes in, standing up to a much larger person for his littering. Good work Ambrosia Slaad, you're my hero!

That doesn't do itself justice. She needs to come in and tell the story the way we first read it. :P

Agreed!

Hear, hear!!

Well just today we were at Byrne Dairy for ice cream when we noticed that there was a dog, chained to a bike, in the road. Well having lost dogs to cars before me and my Dad quickly went over to investigate. It wasn't just us, however. About a half-dozen other people went over to help as well. Fortunately one man was able to get the dog out of the road. It really made me feel happy that so many people would care that much that they'd drop what they were doing to help this dog out. To them it wasn't somebody else's problem it was there's.

Argh, it wasn't heroic; I was just really really angry. Ok, here's what happened:

Me (on Facebook): Jeez, I'm cranky in real life today; almost got punched at the supermarket. But it ended well (for me anyway), and was an incredible release to set off that a**hole.

Me: He had it coming. The mid-50ish douche walked up to his leased '10 Mustang just as I was parking. He finished off some food sample in a plastic cup, squished out his cigarette, and then just dropped it out the window into the parking lot! WTF? I got instantly pissed, so I picked up the cup and flung it back into his car window. He immediately gets out of his car with a "What're you doing, b$%%!?!" I told him "There's a garbage can at the front of the store. Don't litter." His face gets all red, and he acts like he's gonna step toward me (he has a good 6" and ~70 lb. on me). I'm royally pissed. He gets back in the car, throws it in reverse, and angrily peels out in the parking lot. He zips past a couple Stop signs, then guns it out into traffic... right in front of a plain-clothes Crown Vic. Lights come on immediately pulls the douche over. I watch the cop get out and douche is in the car flailing his arms and yelling something. As I walk in, the shopping cart/bagger is laughing like he saw everything. I started shaking as I pick up a few groceries and check out.

I come out and carefully drive by the douche, and now he has a second cop car pulling up behind the first. I can't help but smile, even though I'm still shaking a little.

Normally in real life I'm a quiet mouse. I don't know what came over me to confront that guy.

Me: Heroism had nothing to do with it. We have wild fires every year during the dry season from cigarettes out car windows. People treat public property like it's their private trash can. And then the BP oil starting to show up on Pensacola beaches... I was just livid, not thinking at all. I got lucky, that's all. In a different situation, he coulda beat the snot out of me and gotten away from it.

And I doubt it made any lasting impression on the douche. He'll probably just look around before littering or other douchey behavior.

Me: Maybe, Chris. I tend to equate heroic with knowing the danger and acting anyway. I just had road-rage in a parking lot.

But Karma caught up with that douche.

I still think what you did was good in addition!

Yes, I was adding that to your statement as my position. :P

Walked intto the corner store here to pick up a few beers. A young girl was behind the counter, and a drunk a$~**%! was screaming at her she looked like she was almost in tears. I stepped in and told him to get the f%$! out and act like a real man. It`s not heroic really, but I`m gay and I still know to treat women with respect I mean seriously who screams loudly cursing at a young girl? It made me so pissed.

What did the drunk do after you yelled at him to act like a real man?

What could a store clerk have possibly done to deserve that kind of yelling? I doubt she did deserve it, glad you stood up for her!

He swore at me and stepped out of the store. Not much else I think he was scared when someone his own size stood up to him. And as far as I know the girl wouldn't give him more booze cause he was short a few dollars.

I Know most of my girlfriends would give me hell for this. But I was raised to respect women, so even though I may be a gay guy, I get really pissed when people do s+*~ like that. It really bothers me, and I know I sound sexist, but it just really gets on my nerves.

I honestly don't think it should happen to anyone, man or woman. Respect should be universal, and booze shouldn't change that.

The only thing booze should change is how much hotter I look to everyone else. Otherwise, I agree 101%.

You always look like you've just come back from a five mile run when I'm drunk. :P

Maybe, but we are so proud of you. :) More people need to stand up to people like that.

Good for you. Being drunk does not give one the right to be a RICHARD.

It's OK. It's capitalized so it's a proper noun.
