Since I didn't want to fill the other thread with us organizing Slot 0s I made this thread. Let's get a roll call of people that want to do some sort of Slot 0 on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Go ahead and say what module you're running during the mod and which of those two time slots you'd be available (Thursday Night or Friday Morning).

I'll gather it all up and we can put some games together (maybe even get 2 tables!)

The Exchange

I'll start out:

Availability:

  • Thursday Night after Meet and Greet (9:00 PM or so)
  • Friday morning (8 AM or so)

Modules I'm running:

  • #51: The City of Strangers, Part I: The Shadow Gambit
  • #52: The City of Strangers, Part II: The Twofold Demise

Liberty's Edge

Squeek and I are very interested in participating in your City of Strangers games. Let us know what sort of bribe would be appropriate to secure us a spot at the table. :)

Edit: For the slot 0 times, if that wasn't clear.

Auspician, are you volunteering during the Con?

I should've been more clear, but the "Modules I'm running" is during the con, to let us coordinate better. Although, for all I know I might be Dming during Slot 0 as well.

I would be interested in participating in the Slot 0 effort.

I'm not sure exactly how folks can help me though.

I'm scheduled to run:
#46: Eyes of the Ten, Part I: Requiem for the Red Raven (the 2 slot monster)
#54: Eyes of the Ten, Part II: The Maze of the Open Road
Pathfinder Society Special: Master of the Fallen Fortress

#46 and #54 are 12th level PCs minimum.

If nothing else I would be available to run something else for folks who are going to be GM'ing.

Liberty's Edge

At present I have no plans to GM, as this will be my first PaizoCon. That said, I have GMed for some time and have every expectation to do so at next year's Con; I simply want the opportunity to get familiar with the workings of the Con before I throw myself into the GMing Arena.

If your main goal is to give some gaming time to the GM volunteers, then I'll gladly step aside to give them a chance to play.

Auspician wrote:

The point of a Slot 0 is to let the DMs play and get the full benefit of playing through the module (although playing is nice too!).

Since the rules have been changed to grant *almost* full benefit, it's not quite as needed, but still fun/beneficial.

I'm running #51 on Sat/Sun mornings - might be available to play/run a slot #0, but not sure. I'll be at the Hotel by Wed. Evening.

No need to step out. Just remember we're going to try to give priority to DMs... but I really don't foresee turning anyone away for playing those two slots, barring extreme circumstances.

Sovereign Court

I am currently planning on getting into the hotel late Thursday evening, so should be available for Friday session 0 games. I have GM experience, but I'm still a PaizoCon virgin, I would likely prefer to just soak in the experience playing. I do not currently have an active PFS character made, but could build a level 1 if those are the games available.

I have played all scenarios through #48 except Red Raven and am happy to run a slot zero of any of them. Since I wrote #53, I can run that as well. Trouble will be finding a time to do so. My flight doesn't land until after 9pm on thursday, so I won't be to the hotel until 11 or so (too late to start a game). While I'm not opposed to something on friday morning, I may want to use that time to catch up with friends I haven't seen since Gen Con or last PaizoCon. If there's definite interest with at least 4 gms for one of the scenarios, I'll run a table, but I don't want to be scrambling to put one together last minute, either. I'm also open to playing anything someone else is running, either as a replay to make a table or to get in some of the scenarios I'll be missing while running my own games during the convention proper.

I'd be open to filling out a Slot 0 table, although I can't guarantee I'll be awake for either slot I should be able to make one of them. As with all this pre-con planning, should know more once I'm actually in Seattle.

Just as a bump to this. Also we have enough definitely for at least one table at each time slot. Bring on the DMs/players!

Are there any PFS scenarios that anyone would really like to play? (I'd rather not prep something for which no-one has a character or interest.)

Personally, I've DMed/played all the lower level 1-5 and 1-7 games, and a significant chunk of the 5-9s. I've got prepared a large assortment of scenarios as well for scenarios not being run at the con.

Hopefully we'll get more people showing their interest!

Count me among the faithful wishing to participate!
I've a bard 7 as well as a Cleric of Asmodeus 2 to count among the willing, although the bard is the one most anxious to play.
I'm available whenever after 5pm Thursday!

I'm flying in Thursday night and would love to get into a tierish 5, 6, or 7 mod on Friday morning.

It would make me quite happy, actually...I have not played any of the dedicated 5-6 or 7-8 mods.

I am all about some slot "0" action. I will be in Seattle Wednesday afternoon and available both Thursday night and Friday morning as well as an even earlier slot Wednesday evening if anyone else is there that early.

For the Con I will be running;

#45 Delirium's Tangle
Master of the Fallen Fortress
#49 Among the Dead

How soon do you think we'll get an idea of what scenarios and what times for the slot "0" games? I'll probably only have a 1st level character available for play.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

So, let's see. There's time for two "Slot Zero" time periods: Thursday evening, after dinner; and Friday morning, pretty-damn-early to 11:30 or so. (Slot 1 starts at noon.)

Let's try to set up at least two adventures in each time zone, one for Sub-tier 1-2, and one for mid-level PCs.

I'll volunteer to run one or two scenarios. (Preferably only one, if other people will help out, but I won't die if I run both Thursday night and Friday morning.)

I like the Season 1 scenarios a lot, but I'd like to stick to Season 0, because (1) there are some great stories there, which are being ignored these days in favor of opportunities for higher faction prestige, and (2) much of Season 0 might be retired sometime this coming year, and I'd like to use them while they're available.

So, here's what I'm willing to run:

Tier 1-2:

PS #8 - "Someone kidnapped the Chelish wife of one of Osirion's many Grand Ambassadors to Absalom and sold her into slavery. Venturing into Absalom's darkest corners, the Pathfinders must face the secrets of the Slave Pits to avoid becoming slaves themselves."

PS #23 - "You are sent to convince an Andoren druid to allow the Pathfinder Society to study his recently discovered lorestone, a mystical key to the mysteries of the ancient druid circles."

Mid-range:

PS #16 - "The last remains of a sage from an age long past rests high atop the snow-covered tips of the Fog Peaks in Southern Galt and the Society wants his bones in order to study them and learn from them."

PS #20 - "Panic grips Absalom when a huge crystalline sailing vessel appears suddenly in the harbor. Identified as the King Xeros of Old Azlant, the ship presents a great opportunity for the Pathfinder Society."

Either:

PS #24 - "When the son of a famous Pathfinder gains control of his father's holdings in Taldor, the Pathfinder Society decides to build a new lodge there as a base to explore the many ruins of that crumbling empire."

So, who else is willing to GM?
Which time period, and what scenario?
Does anybody have any strong opinions about which of the five scenarios above you'd want to play in?

I would love to play a tier 1 game in the Friday morning slot.

I want to start playing from level 1.

I am running #46 and don't have a 12th level character so a slot zero is kind of pointless. Due to that plus the fact that I'm running some stuff for Rite Pub I don't have much room for playing though so if there is a open chair at a slot zero table on Thursday evening I would love to participate. We would have to be near Zuxius' room so we could keep the beer flowing ;)

Friday AM would mean I would be gaming from 7AM until 11PM and that just wouldn't work.

You are running both of the 12th level mods? I'm running #46 and that's a 10 hour game. I salute you for kicking in that much time to the Paizocon effort.

Are you the other GM running #46 Friday? I guess you would have to be.

Chris, I don't quite understand what you are proposing here.

Generally the purpose of Slot Zero's is to provide a chance for GM's who are running modules at a convention/game day to play in them before judging them.

I think you might have confused the Slot Zero's for the Open Gaming -- as I don't see any of the modules you are volunteering to run being played at the convention.

Confused,
CJ

Yep, Ogre, that is me. Though so far it doesn't look like anyone has signed up to play either part of Eyes of the Ten. So my Friday might be a lot more open than I had anticipated.

Yeah, I was wondering if they would fill 2 tables of level 12+. I'll probably volunteer to help do something else if they need it. Would sure be nice to hit Sean's mini demo though :D

I know there are a lot of 12th or near-12th level PCs out there, but there must just not be any of them at PaizoCon. :-( And I was all excited to run Maze of the Open Road for the lucky players who get to do the first part earlier in the convention.

I expect we won't start seeing our first waves clearing the Tier 12 until Gen Con. In fact, I know of a group that's specifically waiting to play the first two Tier 12s at Gen Con.

I am indeed confused. That being the case, I will bow out.

I admit, thelesuit, that I don't understand what the purpose of Slot Zero, as you're defining the term, would be. I can't imagine why anyone would want to sit down and play a module that he's already prepped to run as a GM. It would be dreadfully dull. An entire table full of guys who already know the module intimately sounds like a Monty Python skit.

And, for purposes of PFS OP, it would be counter-productive. Instead of getting credit for it as a GM, I'd get virtually the same rewards but put my character at risk of getting killed.

Again, my apologies for confusing the terms. My experience with Big Convention play is very limited.

Shadow Lodge

My understanding was you are supposed to play slot zeros before you read the module. Makes it quite tough to do a slot zero Friday AM if you are running the module at Noon Firday though.

Formerly the cost to 'eat' a module was pretty steep, now it's not as bad so slot zeros are less important. I guess the biggest advantage of slot zeros is you can now get credit on 2 characters for the adventure, as a player and as a GM.

The Exchange

Personally even if you have read the module generically I would find it to be a fun experience. And past that it lets you find kinks for ALL the DMs running said module and make the games better when you DM it during the con.

No worries it is far from intuitive -- and all of us have had a First Encounter with Slot Zeroes and been confused.

The Slot Zero is really a chance for a scenario GM to play through a module as a player and see what sorts of actions players are likely to take and areas in the plot and action that might be ill-defined or vague. Ideally there is also a small Q&A session after a Slot Zero where the scenario is examined and any issues are raised.

In the old days of LG we used to get scenarios that were sort of "half baked". The Slot Zero was an opportunity for the scenario GM's to see where all the holes in the module were and to play their PCs -- remember most of us are players first and getting a chance to "put on our PC clothes" is an opportunity not to be missed.

Usually the Slot Zero players will not have read through the module beforehand...so the Slot Zero table would be their first encounter with the scenario in question.

So my lovely fiancé agreed to DM both the City of Strangers for slot zeroes, as she isn't planning to play or DM them during the Con. That would leave us with a few willing DMs for that timeframe. So that'll let you play the first one on Thursday before you play the second one on Saturday. Also looked like we had tons of people wanting to play, so we'll definitely be able to do it.

When I check in next Wednesday/Thursday morning I'll post what my room number is and we'll meet up there after the meet and eat on Thursday to play. If you want to play... just post here and/or show up. I'm sure we have plenty of willing DMs.

You can get credit for two characters. If you play it first you get credit, then once you DM it you get a second credit for another character.

This is fairly new, since the 2.0 rules, maybe even more recent than that. You can get player credit on one character and GM credit on another, you have to play first to get player credit.

Human Barbarian/Alchemist
Human Cleric of Asmodeus
Human Rogue
Half Elf Paladin of Iomedae

If you see this post multiple times it is because I will be posting it to every thread where I am getting involved in non-Con games and activities. Hopefully this will help prevent any poor communication while getting these games together.

I called the Bellevue to try and learn what my room number would be. All that did was expose my ignorance of hotel SOPs. Apparently they don't assign numbers until sign-in.

I won't have internet access at the Con and will be flying out of Little Rock for Seattle tomorrow morning. My phone number is in my profile. Ring me if you need anything and preferably a half hour or so before any activity or game so I can get there and be properly prepared.

See you guys soon.

Hey, arrived last night. We'll be mustering people up at the Meet and Greet for the game tonight. I'm in room 122, right near the fitness center and entrance. Just show up and we'll try to game. We have a small room so probably only 1-2 games in here, but we'll use this place as a gathering point. See you all tonight (and tomorrow!).
