"Really? Didn't I say that you'd make the perfect distraction? That guard will remember you and Mash and forget about the rest of us. So when he eventually notices his purse missing he'll never suspect us."
At Cole's look that turns from incredulous to furious Raff starts to laugh.
"You're too easy."
Cole gives his brother a grudging grin, "Yeah, I never know when you are foolin' me."

"Don't worry. I know the truth. I wouldn't be here without you."
There are still a few people about, on the road you are now standing on, though no one is close enough to hear your group's casual conversation. The clear, crisp, windy air of late summer is, of course, sea-scented. The broad unpaved road travels ahead a ways, a few farms visible this near the town. The road narrows up ahead and eventually dissappears into a windblown forest after exiting a smallish village.

Mash goes in the direction that the map indicates, according to what Desvartes says is the right direction.

Erodel travels along with the rest of group quietly, unless spoken to first. Occasionally sending his raven out to scout around for a short amount of time.
Cole will take the lead, to further the deception he is in charge. He will wave at the passersby if they show any interest in the group, but other than that, he just will keep an eye on things.

Raff travels along with the group. He speaks if spoken to, but feels no particular urge to have a conversation.
After enough walking that it qualifies as a good workout, and a few travelers have glanced at your group curiously, you reach the forest-edge town. Very few of the other travelers have continued on to here.
Cole notes the lack of conversation, and notes Well, this has certainly been a team building exercise. I can feel the cameraderie building even now.
He glances at Desvartes, and asks, "So which way, guide?"

Stretching Keselous pulls out one of his daggers and starts flipping it into the air and catching it again, he does this over and over and over.

"Elfling, there is much to see in this world. Let us see if there is a tavern, and I will tell you what I have seen."

Keselous laughs heartily there were plenty of taverns back there, I'm interested in some of this wilderness.

I am again assuming Desvartes does have the map of their directions and such. Please enlighten me if the character does not actually have the map. *bows*
To Coles' question, Des draws the map from the pocket within his vest and unfolds it, presenting it at such an angle so that some others may peruse the item if they so choose.

Mash realizes he can't read all that well, especially maps. As such, he'll head to the local tavern.
"Lok'tar, elfling. Tell me when we will be going."
Cole looks at the map, trying to figure out where to go from here.

Yes, so add +2 to the check.
The map depicts Luskan, and the sea to your west. It also shows the small village and a large swath of forest beyond that. Near the top of the map, it shows another town labeled "Haven". It shows a spidery path through the forest towards Haven.
"According to this map, our next stop is Haven, but to get there requires a trip through the forest. Guess where the ambush is coming from."

Mash keeps his drinking down to a minimum. After two flagons, he meets up with the adventuring group.
Cole glares at the inebriated half orc, saying, "So, nice of you to join us."
Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1
As Desvartes saunters along, at Coles' comment about/to Mash he notes,
"Well, the fellow is doing well to both imbibe and keep up with us. I've heard say that a good stout ale is almost a meal in itself. Perhaps Mash is just thinking about saving on rations?" Des smiles, hoping others share in his attempt at humor.
Diplomacy:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Cole turns a stare to the half elf, and bites back a retort. Trying to keep his temper under control, he mutters to both of them, "Yeah, I suppose so, just try to keep up, all right?"
Good diplomacy roll, but Cole has some issues to deal with, why he has a 9 CHA.

"Whatever do you mean, old chap?" He asks, not understanding the Half-Orc's innuendo.

"This boss-man, he could be not liked by people. This thing we are transporting maybe is something bad. Maybe people know boss-man is a bad-man, or maybe a good-man."
Cole interrupts, "Wait a momnemt, do you mean to say this Kyras is transporting this item at the behest of one of the reputable goups, such as the Church of Iomedae?" He gives a short barking laugh. That's a good one, Mash, do you know any others?"

"The smart thing to do is to not wonder what it is. Don' ask about it. Don't give it a second thought. Don't give it any consideration beyond knowing that we have to get it there safely. If you do, you'll start something ugly and people will start dying. Trust me on this."
Cole starts to respond with a sarcastic remark, but seeing his brother's serious expression, closes his mouth, without uttering a word. He glances over at Erodel, who is carrying the item, and wonders what he has gotten himself into. Things were much simpler just following orders and not questioning them, but he was not an automaton, and could not help but question. Seems like that is all he did nowadays was question.

Erodel gives Mash an odd look, "I believe we were hired to deliver an item, not murder a man just because some of us might believe there is something a bit strange about him."
Looking around at the rest of the group, and the somewhat strange mix of people in it, "I would certainly hope that's not the case."

Keselous raises an eyebrow. Mash my friend, You should thank the cloaked man, he has sent us on a journey that will afford you the chance to kill more than just him.I believe that the package will have others after us shortly enough. a descrete nod is givien to Erodel. Des walks along silently, listening to the banter skipping amongst the rest of the group. A slight smile upon his face.

His eyes scanning the surroundings as the group walks on.
You are just leaving the rather sparsely populated town. Some farmers are out, most of them staring at you, and a few goats are wandering around as well. While not nearly as poor as some villages, it has a wary look, as though readying itself for some hardship. The thick forest looms ahead of you, a path opening between the trees.

"If i ever get another thought again, trust me, I will say it. It may not happen today. It may not happen tomorrow, but if it does..."
Mash immediately heads to the general store to buy a flask, then to tavern where he gets the bar wench to fill it up with the meanest, strongest ales available.
Mash gives each merchant 1 gp.
Colwe looks up at the sky as the group prepares to enter the forest. He motions Desvartes over , and asks, "So how long do you think it will take to make it through the forest boundaries? I don't want to spend any more nights in there than humanly possible."
He notices the half-orc has disappeared again. "I am not waiting for him, let him catch up to us!"
Male Half-orc Barbarian 1
Mash returns, with his now trusty flask in his bag. "Lok'tar. I got everything I needed."
Des and Mash are aware that journeying through the forest will certainly take days, perhaps many.
