Under the monk's barrage of blows, the skeleton's armor is insufficient, and it collapses to the ground as a pile of dust and armor. On the stand, the crystal flickers an angry red.

Or you might not :).

Good time to lose our wizard, he he

Cole waits for the all clear from Raff to come upstairs. He looks across the room at the glowing red crystal, and shudders. Crap, what is that thing?"

"Is anyone hurt?"

Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1

Desvartes smiles,

"Nay, the thing didn't lay a glove upon me." The Elf grins cheerfully. "Well done there Raff, fine fist work." Des nods to the monk, even offering a salute with one of his rapiers.

"As for the glowing crystal...um...magic I would hazard..." He adds, trying to be helpful but really not having a clue.

"Yeah, since I have no idea what it does, we should just leave it alone." Cole then looks around the upstairs room, looking for anything else of interest. Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Assuming nothing else happens, or we don't find anything else, then he will say, "Let's check the basement level, just to be sure nothing else surprises us."

Male Half-orc Barbarian 1

"Wait a minute, so I can rest up. I was so tired, Mash didn't get a chance to stab them bones."

"Yeah, rest up, seems safe for the moment."

Ignoring Cole's warning, Jirah walks curiously up to the glowing crystal, for some reason holding her magnificent scimitar up level with the sphere. The orb flashes brighter red, then dulls 'till there's barely a glimmer. She remains standing there for a moment, then walks over to stand watch at the door, sword still in hand.

Cole watches Jirah's actions with a look of astonishemnt, mixed with curiosity. Not sure what to make of this, he asks quietly, "Is there something about this tower you know of, Jirah?"

She shakes her head "no", not turning toward him. "I was simply curious about the magical orb. Most often they are the tools of charlatans. Apparently, our foe had been using it as a sort of viewing device, for there was someone in the orb." She pauses. "But she left when I approached. She was one of the demon-cousins to the Fair Folk, I think."

"Do you know who this could be, and if they have other allies working against us?"

Male Half-orc Barbarian 1

"Do you mean the drow?"

"Yes," Jirah answers Mash. "My master said that there would be dangerous ones working to get what I seek, for worse reasons than study or gold, but beyond that I do not know," she replies to Cole. "Likely, the drow lady is one of these. I have never, seen her before. It is eerie that she was in discussion with one who had a lair near our path." She gestures at the pile of dust and armor with her scimitar.

"Hold on. We just tussled with some minions of the drow? We're being hunted by them for the item?" Raff looks concerned for the first time.

Cole mirrors his brothers concern. Hmmm. If the drow are involved with this, then things are going to get very interesting. If we're all ready, then the downstairs level awaits. We might find some more clues about these drow down there."

Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1

Desvartes blinks at the woman's' actions. Watches her impassively as the events at the orb play out, then continues to watch her as she walks and stands beside the door.

With a thoughtful look upon his features he also moves to join the party as they prepare to head down into the bowels of the tower.

"This is certainly not the adventure I thought I would find myself in." He comments quietly.

Raff takes the lead in going down the stairs...

Des cannot help the look of revulsion that crosses his face at Mashs' descriptive outburst.

Des:
You suspect that the sword may have had something with the orb's dimming.

The dusty, haphazard basement is the largest of the rooms, but seems crowded, with rations for the dead guards stacked in crates about the stone room and only one lantern hanging from the ceiling to light it, narrow aisles through the precarious towers of who-knows-what.

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Cole looks around the basement for any hidden passageways or secret doors.

"Priest, I have a wound at my side that needs healing. I just realized. You know, the heat of the battle and all."

I have 8 hp out of 14.

Cole walks over to mash and casts a healing spell on him. Lose Command to convert to Cure Light Wounds, for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

You see little of note in the basement, except for an out of place scroll set on one of the crates.

Male Half-orc Barbarian 1

"Nothing important in there. Only scrolls and paper." Mash will still attempt to look around to spot any obvious traps.

Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Cole sighs at Mash, but decides not to press the issue. He takes the scroll and examines it.

Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1

Des cautiously advances upon the scroll.

"If this were another time and place I would be in half a mind to say "Look gang, a clue!'." Des smiles to try and help the joke, but is very distracted trying to work out the facts about the parchment the party has found.

Male Half-orc Barbarian 1

"Priest, that is a good idea! Now that the trash is out of my way." After the scroll has been removed from the crate, Mash will use the blade of his sword in an attempt to open up the box.

Strength 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

The scroll turns out to be a map, showing the area around the forest you are in and Haven, also some mountains to the east of your destination. A small red line leads from your current location to a spot in the mountains, which is labeled in spidery, though clear, letters.

Undercommon:
The spot in the mountains is labeled "The Citadel. Portal open during the moonless nights."

The crate bursts open, revealing parcels of dried venison, some fruit, a wineskin, and flat bread. Mash happens to cleave right through a cantaloupe, spraying himself and anyone within several feet with the fruit pulp.

Cole pockets the map, once Des has finished looking at it, realizing its significance. He turns back to Mash, only to be splattered by the cantaloupe innards.

He wipes them off of his clothing, and says wryly, "Still hungry, Mash?, I thought meat was more to your tastes."

He continues to the rest of the group, "I guess now would be a good time to stock up on provisions. We still have a long ways to go to Haven."

What time of day is it?

A little after noon. Which one of you is now carrying the wayfinder Kyras gave you (to jog your memory, go to the front page of the thread)?

Cole will carry the wayfinder, along with the Ambar.

Jirah, after wiping off as much cantaloupe as she can, begins adding packets of venison and flat bread and some fruit to her large pack, until it's apparently full. Even with something that heavy, the slender assassin doesn't seem weighted down. Absently trying to wipe off gunk from her tunic, she asks, "do any of you know if there's a large stream or river nearby?"

"Like I said, this room is worthless."

"Jirah, your guess is as good as mine, but we can keep an eye out for one later."

She nods. "There is nothing here left of interest to us, and we dare not bring the orb. Shall we be leaving?"

Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1

As Des also wipes gunk off his clothes with a sigh, but a smile, he notes Jirahs' question about a river.

"Well, we now have a map...?" indicates the scroll Cole has tucked away.

He too will load up with extra supplies.

"I thought you already had a map, from the slightly more trustworthy source of your employer."

After replenishing his supplies, Raff heads back outside to the trail they were on.

"Yeah, let's get moving. We can still make some good time before nightfall. Jirah, if we pass a river we can stop for a moment, so you can get cleaned off."

Des smiles at these first simple words directed to him.

"No, not that map. This new map. I d believe our first map is more drawn around simple 'This is how you get from here to there.' type of thing. This new map seems a tad more detailed in its depictions of the surrounding locals." He says gently to Jirah.

"As I said, if we can trust it. And aren't we simply going to avoid the locals? All we need to know is how to get to our destination," Jirah replies, heading out after Raff and Cole.

Male Half-orc Barbarian 1

Does that mean she has her back to Mash? Oh boy....

Mash will leave the room last, looking at Jirah's spinal column most menacingly. He will keep his hand close to the pommel of his blade.

The road is bright under the afternoon sun, the weather seeming more like that of high summer. The road stretches out ahead of you, fairly straight,

Cole will have the rest of the group proceed down the road, BTW are we out of the forest now? and the marching order will be Mash, Des (and horse), Jirah, Cole, Raff, single file. We will continue on until eventime, then look for a place to camp.

Male Half-orc Barbarian 1

Mash should take second night watch shift. He believes Desvartes needs the embers of the camp fire to aid his supposed low-light vision, while Mash can wait until the fire has died out completely to take the full effect of darkvision without exposing the group with a light in the darkness. Sound good?

Mash asks his comrades (ie not Jirah), "So does tower have any history with drow? Might help to know what drow have done."

"Not that I'm aware of, Mash. Though I will be the first to tell you, we don't know too much about this area. It seems to me, the drow are probably behind the bandit activities in the forest, at the very least. Maybe the map we found has more answers."

Now, you are still in the forest.

"Perhaps the drow are the enemies my master has spoken of. Maybe our employers will be able to find a common enemy," Jirah muses, breaking marching order a bit in order to walk beside the horse, absently stroking its neck.

The trees are gradually get thicker the farther you get from the tower, and by evening, the best camping place you come to is a large pine tree near the road that provides good shelter, and a spacious area around the trunk.
