Please help to make a dumb character

Homebrew and House Rules

i have a character that i need to right up for a RP heavy game, this character will be a half-ling but that's all i really have set up.

i know i will be rolling my stats but i am giving myself an int of no higher than 6.

this character will be easily distracted and just a plain simpleton, he will be as likely to attack the enemy as he is to chase his shadow.

i was thinking of making him a rogue mainly for the skills but i would like some advice on what you think would be some nice options

this character will be no means a powerful character im going to play him just for fun.

i am thinking of a personality similar to that of the talking animals from some of the pixar movies like UP or cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

Ok here you go. In 1st edition or so there was a character class called "The Jester". This class would allow you to act as "dumb" as you want and have an effect on the game. You would have your hands full converting him, but it would be lots of fun playing him. Another way to go would be to play a Kender from Dragon Lance. There is no other character race that causes more trouble than a Kender. Remember the famous quote "The most terrifying sound a party can hear is the word "OOPS" coming from the Kender". Good luck any way you go with it.

You can also use up to two flaws in the character design and gain two feats at the same time.

The flaw

"Loud mouthed" comes to mind right away

I think that if you build a kender go ahead and use the flaw system, kender are already flawed so you should at least get some credit for playing one.....

A player in my game last night mentioned the concept of Forest Gump, the paladin. He doesn't really understand what's going on, but has a lot of folksy wisdom and seems to end up in the right spot at the right time. That could work. I never like easily distracted halfing rogues - reminds me too much of kender. Plus, making mistakes like attacking your shadow instead of an enemy strikes me as result of low Wisdom rather than low Intelligence.

i didnt start playing dnd until 3.0 so if you would please tell me what a kinder is. im assuming its a race

It's a more annoying version of the halfling. Picture a 6 year old kid hopped up on pixie sticks with no sense of personal property and whose entire purpose is to annoy and irritate the other players. That's a kender. They are from Dragonlance.

did they get any racial abilities that were unique to them.

They had a racial weapon that was a combo staff and sling and they could taunt monsters and make them attack.

Taken from DnD Wiki. Go there, look up "kender", you'll have the 3.5 adaptation of the race.

Innocence
Kender are completely and entirely innocent, and remain so throughout their lives. Due to this they are fearless and do not feel sexual lust. Allthough a Kender is immune to all types of fear, it should be noted that on more than one occassion, Kender have felt fear for individuals that they care for. So, while Kender are immune to fear for themselves, they may still fear the peril of others.

Wanderlust
Kender are afflicted with Wanderlust in their teens, this lust makes it difficult, even stifling to be in one place for a very long time. They become overly curious, and find that they seek adventure more and more throughout their adolescence. This can be problematic, as they are immune to fear, many young Kender may find themselves in dangerous positions. One such example would be Teik Glittergold, a young rogue that found himself face to face with a red dragon, because the Kender wondered how large the dragon’s cave could be.

As a note, Wanderlust does not make Kender unintelligent, it just helps to remove inhibitions about completing dangerous, or otherwise unhealthy tasks, if it means that the Kender can explore, unearth, or find something new and different.

Kender usually grow out of the Wanderlust later in their lives, provided that they live that long.

Kleptomania
Anyone who has holes in their pockets should be wary of the Kender. More often than not, if a Kender has a fond appreciation for something you own that is not strapped down, tied up, or locked away, they will “find it”. It is not uncommon at all for a Kender to have many pockets filled with the nick-nacks, and shiny baubles, that his party has “dropped.” If one were to realize that their key has come up missing, and is now in the Kender’s possession, the Kender will (usually) have no problem giving it back, and will exclaim something along the lines of, “I found that a couple miles back, I bet you are really glad that I saw it and picked it up for you.”

Kender are very curios and tend to "borrow" objects. The Kender possess a habit of finding things that have dropped into their pouches by accident, picking things up in the streets, finding "junk", and generally getting things that belong to other people. The Kender have enormous natural curiosity, a character trait which is also employed to provision the characters with both lock picking skills and a tendency to "listen in on other's conversations". In terms of moral considerations, Kender are described as not believing that there is anything wrong with handling, although this habit may be employed to get Kender in to deep trouble with the owner of an item. In addition, they do not tend to "find" things like money, gems, and the like, as they are depicted as having little concept of monetary value. Kender oppose actual thieving vehemently, and thus consider being called a thief a great insult to their dignity.

Also, they are masters of insults. Kender are also described in Dragonlance Adventures as using this ability to taunt creatures, causing them to become irrational and attack wildly or fall into some kind of trap. (Wikipedia)

They were also completely immune to fear and inadvertent kleptomaniacs.

Edit: ninja'd

The Hoopak is what Sebastian's talking about. Also they had a 'deep pockets' (?) racial which I feel was the inspiration for the Pathfinder Chroniclers ability in the campaign setting, I cant remember it's exact name. Basically since their never-idle hands will pick up anything not nailed down (and that's barring the kender having a crowbar), there was a chance that they could have any small, cheap item in their pouches somewhere. Any item that was in the same kender's possession for a couple days was considered a family heirloom.

A roommate who played a kender (lucky us) thought that kenders dont so much go to bed at night as just keep going till the pass out from exhaustion :\

You'll find that for most people they are a lot like paladins and evil characters: a ton of fun and quite memorable if played right but down right annoying otherwise.

My kender had to rescue the party, found the other two tied up one conscious and one unconscious.

Choose to assist the unconscious PC first (while passing a note to the DM) explaining that I was stealing his boot laces while untieing him.

Then freed the other PC.

Had a horrble time escaping especially with the fighter asking why the BBEG had even taken his boot laces.......

I think that a boot came off a couple of times during the game...

If you went with 6-8 in INT/WIS/CHR you could really play a loud-mouthed character that never thinks his actions through nor does he really understand how the world works or how to interact with people.

One of my sons currently has about an 8 CHA, he's a very good looking kid, very intelligent, but NEVER thinks before he opens his mouth...so whatever pops into his head pops out of his mouth...

Minsc, and Boo Stand Ready!

GO FOR THE EYES BOO, GO FOR THE EYES! RRRAGGH!

(But seriously, Good ol' Kender, used to hate em, now I love em. Tasslehoff -Lawls- Go him!

Boo is very small, and there is ever so much of Minsc to search.

Butt-kicking for goodness!

Time for more adventure, eh Boo?

The Exchange

Dude from Slingblade.
Ummm-hmmmm, I don't reckon I gots no reason to keel nobody....

Oh, and my post was Minsc from Baldur's Gate.

Go to this page and scroll down until you get to the character class called the Clod and click on it. It is a pdf, but once you read it, I think you will have what you are looking for.

YES!!!!! -rofl-

"Jump on my sword evil, I shall not be as gentle!"

Getting away from the Kender for a moment, I'm not to sure about a low intelligence Rogue given how important skills are to that class. You might be better of as a Cleric, Druid, or Sorcerer, though the idea of a Paladin does interest me.

Sorcerer might be best though as the necessary high charisma would help explain why a party would keep him around.

Play a Ranger... with a Hamster..

but the ranger thinks it's a Miniature Giant Space Hamster... >.>

and the ranger's name is Minsc!

"Minsc and Boo Stand Ready!"

Seriously, has no one here aside from that one guy heard of this character?

He's the perfect example!

If only I could remember what he said for that one riddle.. f~+~ I gotta install the game again. ><

the clod looks real good,

one reason i went with the idea of making him a rogue was to give him the skills he will lose from a low inelegance.

"You point, I punch"
