"I'd prefer to keep my feet on solid ground. I'd rather not provoke the water elemental we know resides here. Maybe if we use the charm and get across to the southern edge of the northern shore as quickly as we can, a safer path by the look of this area."

Janus stays vigilant, especially vary of the lake. perception; 1d20 + 14
Janus sees the outlines of two elementals lurking beneath the pool's surface. He points them out to everyone.
Let me know how you would proceed across the pool with this in mind. Combat has not yet started.
Lilia Stinisen
"If you think you might have success speaking with them, I would always try that first. If not, we can always fight them, I guess," Lilia sighed, tired of fighting things so often in the last few days.
Sarek Tull
"Do any of you have a spell that can make me bigger. Perhaps I can ward all of you while you run across the water over there at the narrowest point."
Enlarge Person on me perhaps? I would have reach and ready an action to attack anything that threatens any of you while to run across the water. Just a thought.
Thediar
In Common, to the team: "Sarek, that's not a bad tactic. But we'll have to do more than that.
"She expected us to come here, and these guardians were chosen to be a threat to the four of us. If we're going to negotiate with Rhoswen, we're going to have to win against these elementals, and --assuming she can see the battle-- we're going to have to win quickly and cleanly.
"Does anybody have any fire spells?"
Sarek Tull
"Hmmm....How about if Ylera summoned something that could engage the elementals in their own environment? Or at least give us cover while we cross?
JZ...can you describe the shore on the opposite side (between the falls)? It looks like there isn't much room between the water and the cliff between the falls.
Lilia Stinisen
"Sarek, I have a wand that has just the thing for you. It will double your size and give you more strength. Enlarge Person. I can use Scorching Ray a few more times today, if needed, Thediar."
Saying that, she pulls the small wand from her backpack, ready to enlarge her friend upon negotiations breaking down.
Thediar
Thediar nods at Lilia. "Grant Sarek your powers; then, while I engage the waters, ready your best fire spells."
Thediar displays his left palm, with the holy symbol birthmark. Gozreh is the Lady of the Waters, and it's important to treat these spirits with respect. Nonetheless, he readies a channel negative energy burst, designated to avoid his comrades, set to trigger the instant any threat moves toward the party.
He says to the elementals: "We are honored that Her Majesty would so esteem us as to place such raging whitecapped guardians as yourselves to block our course. And yes, we are indeed set to cross the pool, as irresistable as the river's journey to the ancient sea, and we will not be swept anywhere against our choosing. Is there any way we may gain your leave?"
Lilia Stinisen
Lilia will cast Enlarge Person from her wand on Sarek. After that happens she will take to the air to remove herself from the reach of the elementals. "I am holding off until your go ahead, Thediar!
Thediar
So, they didn't answer Thediar's last question, then?
As soon as the elemental transforms, Thediar hits them both with a blast of power from the negative energy plane. 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 6) = 13. It'll probably also kill off any fish or wildlife in the area.
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Sarek Tull
Ouch! Unlucky dmg roll Sarek...
Janus will take aim at the elemental closer to the group and fire.
Initiative 1d20 + 4 +2 for favored terrain?
attack roll 1d20 + 10
damage roll 1d8 + 6Edit: Critical confimation 1d20 + 10
Don't you get 2 shots? You aren't moving, so you can full-attack, right?
Lilia Stinisen
Initiative 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
From her position in the air, Lilia casts Scorching Ray, bringing 2 fiery blasts into existence at the closest elemental.
Ray One 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 2) = 12
Ray Two 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 1) = 12
I am at work, and have forgotten the damage from a scorching ray. I think its 4 d6. If I'm wrong, ignore the damage roll and please make the correct die roll. Thanks.

Lilia rains fire on the living whirlpool. It screams as gouts of steam erupt from it's swirling form.
The giant Sarek strides across the water and plunges his falchion into the elemental guarding the fall. His strike meets resistance, as if tearing into a semi-solid form. The elemental thrashes it's wave-like appendages at Sarek.
Slam#1 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Potential damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Slam#2 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Potential damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Thediar – doesn't channel energy affect a 30' radius centered on you? Wouldn't everyone else be affected?
The vortex-elemental focuses it's rage on the closest available person – Sarek. It tries to sweep him away, but the attack fails. Ylera's water walking magic always keeps Sarek's feet above the surface of the water.
Janus fires at the vortex, his first arrow striking. His second arrow is flung away to the other side of the pool.
Ylera is busy summoning an elemental of earth.
If you can roll your initiative, Ylera
Round 2 begins
Thediar – may make your move this round, of course. We'll handle the outcome of the channel energy retroactively.
Lilia Stinisen
Lilia continues her barrage of fiery magic on the elmental she damaged the last round.
Second casting of Scorching Ray. I am also taking a -4 on my attack roll this round since I assume Sarek is in melee with my target. If I am wrong somehow, add 4 to each ray.
Bolt one 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 4) = 11
Bolt two 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 4) = 12
Thediar
Thediar has taken the feat Selective Channelling, which allows him to exclude certain people --in this case, up to four-- from the effects of his Channel Energy.
Thediar repeats the process during the second round. 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 1) = 15 points of negative energy damage.
He also looks around, trying to catch a glimpse of the raven, or some other messenger ho might report back to the fae queen. (Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27)
Ylera
initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
The elemental will attack the non vortexed water elemental
My next action if it's possible to get to a position where I can cast Burning hands on one or both of our watery friends without catching a companion in the blast. this would be before the elemental moves into strike.
Sarek Tull
Sarek crosses the water/shoreline to engage the elemental closest to the waterfall.

Here is my attack w/power attack and vital strike...
Attack: 1d20 + 12

Hey JZ...I forgot that my sword is Large too. The damage increases to 2d6. Here is the rerolled damage.
Damage: 4d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 5) + 16 = 35

Ah, thanks. Here's the elementals' Will saves for the first round only:Near elemental 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Far elemental 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
I have your DC at 16.
Sarek Tull
Sarek takes a moment to compose himself after being hit by the elemental.
Swift action - lay on hands: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2) = 11
He strikes out again at the elemental closest to the falls.
Power attacking...
Attack 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Damage 1: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (4, 2) + 16 = 22
Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage 2: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 1) + 16 = 20
Arggg!!
DM JZ
Lilia's flame bolts continue to torment the living whirlpool.
Though not swept down by the vortex near his feet, Sarek is still affected by the unsteady "ground". He swings go wide.
Sarek's foe presses it's advantage:
Slam#1 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Potential 1d1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Slam#2 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Potential damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Ylera's earth spirit rises from the stony shore. It finds that it cannot move past the vortex, so attacks it instead.
Slam 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Potential 1d1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Thediar channels negative energy against the elementals ...
I'll assume the earth elemental is not protected by the selective channeling (DC 16, right?)
Near elemental will save : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Far elemental will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Earth elemental will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Slam#1 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Potential 1d1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Slam#2 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Potential damage 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
