Sorry to hear about your mom's perception problems. Are they related to medication? Is she staying as active as possible?

They could be, or it could be the cancer. My wife was certain my mom forewent the morphine so she could be awake during our visit.

Unfortunately, my mom is bedridden, so she can't really stay active. Every now and then, they move her to a chair, but she's fallen out a couple of times. My aunt visits her twice a day every day, which has been extremely helpful, in my opinion.

I was thinking mentally active, especially. Yeah, I think the aunt's visits have got to be a big help.

It's funny, but I'm just remembering that my mom started to forgo her puzzles, books, audio books, and movies a week or two before she died. I should have realized that was a sign at the time.

Yeah, my mom gave up on those pretty early on. :(

She watches TV, mostly, and the staff don't really interact much with the residents, so the only mentally stimulating activity she has is visiting with my aunt.

I believe you have invoked a terrible doom!

Actually, the terrible doom was already on its way to see me. It had just gotten through airport security, and was waiting to board. First Class all the way to my work cubicle. So, in reality, I was trying to fool myself into thinking this week would be something other than a maynonnaise-coated nightmare from the deepest pits of the Abyss.

Tired. Came back from Cincy just before 11pm EST and got a call around 1'ish in the morning that her sister-in-law (married to her oldest brother) had her water break. Baby wasn't due to be expected until July 7th via C-section. It's the first nephew (out of six previous nieces). Arrived kicking & screaming @ 2:29 am EST. 6 lbs, 13 oz & 20" long.

Tell me about it. Last week I received a novella I'd been waiting for, then the GMG and Heart of the Jungle, then the new PF AP and PF Companion - all within a day or so of each other.

And that's not even counting the 15 or so books I haven't gotten around to reading.

Mindy's mom just called me to give me updates. The thing was that I had just backed up a lot of stuff off her camera to DVD-data and she hadn't had the chance to delete the excess photos off her data card. We weren't prepared for this, so I have to talk her through it later today as to how to get the new pics off and get rid of the old ones and put it up through Facebook. All the pictures she has online on her page have been previously put up by me when I was visiting. UGH! Her mom's more of a luddite w/o the technical savvy. Should be fun. :P

yup, I know the feeling. DUDE!! I love it when that happens, the wife and I get a good, warm laugh out of it.

The woman who lives above us is a breast cancer survivor who went through her convalencense with my late mother in law, who was suffering from lung cancer. Unfortunately, my mother in law did not make it, but my wife always makes time to talk to our neighbor when she gets the chance. She has two children, both boys, and she and her husband are trying desperately(and loudly!) for a girl.

Incidentally I went upstairs once for some minor errand and actually had a chance to meet her. She does not, repeat NOT, look like a cancer survivor at all. Nor does she look anywhere remotely near her age. My wife has made it a point to make sure I have few reasons to go poking about upstairs. ;-)

RPG Superstar 2012

My wife would be the same way. :)

She lived for a while with her small cell cancer, and was in comparitively good shape until right before the end. I miss her, but this is nothing compared to my wife's feelings of loss, naturally.

I'm here. "307 new posts." I'm going to be pretty busy today, so I'm most likely not going to try and catch up.

Had an ... interesting ... time at the funeral on Saturday for my old roommate. I felt that the southern baptist pastor that did the ceremony was a bit of an @$$. It was nice to see most of the old gang again though.

Anyway hope that most of you are all doing well.
