Distracted for a moment by the throng on the opposite side of the harbour,............
Quote:The way you guys all have defined characters is one of the highlights of this game for me. Helga is a regular skill monkey, some of her knowledge rolls have been stellar, I can say the same for all of you and here is the rub, Anya the barbarian has done something that may screw up my plans again. Second time. I throw in the odd comment in my descriptions and for some reason she picks up on them. No meta-gaming anyone else but this is an important roll for you guys. Because Anya was only distracted, the DC's are quite high. Don't worry if this does not work there will be plenty of opportunities for others to jump on the band wagon before it is too late.
Anya Only
DC14 Perception Check
Spoiler:There are two girls waving at you all from the first rise. Anya recognises them from the night before and the arm-wrestling in the High Hall.DC16 Perception Check
Spoiler:Saorise is talking on the stony beach with two or three others, as well mend the nets.DC18 Perception Check
Spoiler:18 is the magic number. Saorise is noticeable because of her beautiful fur cloak. The big black haired man next to her is noticeable because of his high cloak, black beard and it can only be Drago by that stance.Anya Fiend-Fury wrote:Hey FW, what email of mine did you send the map to? If you didn't have an address for me, you can use the email I put in the OOC just now. Thanks.I didn't have one, but I have added you to my contacts list. You should have got the map now.
No one post anything substantial like running into the shrine until Anya has made this roll please. No pressure...

Anya Fiend-Fury |

lol, well while I'd love to take full credit for my 'amazing personal perception skills', truth is the comment was in large part to make up for my late posting. Curiosity begs the next question though, when was the first time this happened? If you can answer without giving too much away of course :)
Anya's Perception check:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
After all that set-up, that just doesn't seem right...

![]() |

Like last time you, Anya didn't beat the roll to stop things starting. It probably doesn't matter much anyway....
Anya gets the feeling that they are all on show. She can even see the four Hall guards watching from above, and the lookout in the bell-tower. They have a perfect view of the entrance to the shrine.
As Kurn approaches the shrine, the white wood begins to glow like a strong torch.
Kurn
As Ari enters, the dancings lights show the shrine in all its glory. It is a dank cave, strangely shaped with many patches of green and grey moss, several have long vines trailing down the walls and onto the floor.
In the stone floor's centre is a shallow carved bowl with the odd piece of dried seaweed. The jagged coral shaped grey stone plinth has a flat top. Both the plinth and bowl must have been smoothed and carved over time or with the use of strong magicks.
There are signs of cracks and niches in the walls and ceiling, showing the age of the rocks and maybe more.

Anya Fiend-Fury |

Ari, hearing Anya making her way through the party, looks back at her, shrugs his shoulders and whispers,"What?"
"I don't know" she replies, looking somewhat annoyed and disturbed and feeling like she may have missed something important
"It may be nothing, but the way they're all watching it almost seems like we are here for their entertainment or something. And I am no one's jesting fool!"Scowling at these last words Anya tightens her grip on the axe and looks for something she can use it on

![]() |

Ari moves down the left wall Q13 until he notices the vines of the moss plant opposite start to wriggle and writhe and it drops off the wall. The vines reach out ten feet in all directions.
I would prefer everyone to give me their positions when they move or I can just put you wherever.
Anya R13 and FrekiS13 follow the broad warrior by only a few feet. Kurn creeps forwards with his glowing trident at the ready R12. Ragnar matches the priest with his axe and dagger waving in front as moves carefully over the crunching stones.
Stefnir S11 tries to watch what is happening to the front, with Ari and also Jorgen and Helga behind him.
Further back stands Helga T12 and behind her Jorgen U12 with his longspear at the ready.
No surprise round, this creature knows you are there and it dropping off initiates action.
Round One
Anya 24
Kurn 20
Ari 18
Stefnir 16
Plant 1d20 ⇒ 8
Something Else 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (16) - 4 = 12
Ragnar 15
Helga 10
Jorgen 8
Freki 5
This is the the most complicated fight I've ever run so I'll need your help to make sure we don't spend ages on it. Just as a side note my daughter is now on antibiotics so hopefully I'll be able to get some extra sleep and keep on top of my games better.

Jorgen by the time we get round to you, I'll be able to use those rolls for the something else. Please remind me if I forget.

Anya Fiend-Fury |

for some reason I still don't see a map, it may have gone to a junk mail but it's a bit of hassle to check that from my bbery. I'll check first chance I get to a computer but for now anyway please feel free to place Anya wherever makes it easiest for you FW
Depite her doubt as to the dangwerousness of this enemy, the skilled warrior woman still knows a threat when she sees one. As she charges forward she allows her angers and frustrations odf the past days to fuel her fury and hacks into the plant creature with the battleaxe
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
(sorry, forget the damage for battleaxes and if they get a str bonus or not but if you don't mind you can roll that for Anya FW)

Helga Evadottir Alfchild |

I have the map here, you can right-click and download. Battle axe is one-handed, 1d8 damage, 20/x3 threat range. Great axe is two-handed and 1d12 damage.

![]() |

As Anya charges forwards the vine between her feet curls up to grab her thigh, all the others begin to writhe and twist.
AoO (due to ten foot reach) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24, damage 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
The barbarian feels the vine tighten and begin to wrap her up. Then the other vines thrust around her, attempting to get a firm grip.
Grab attempt and constrict (CMB) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33, Constrict 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Before anyone else can act, Anya is wrapped up by the snaking vines and she cannot break free. The battleaxe still in her hand but its sweeping attack just in her mind.
Stefnir/Ari and Kurn to go.

Helga Evadottir Alfchild |

Helga responds to the attack on Anya by rasing her hands and singing a snatch of song, then gesturing with a gob of butter from her belt-pouch. Immediately Anya feels a slick coating slip between her and the grasping vine, adding to her chances to wriggle free.
Casting grease, granting Anya +10 on her checks to escape the grapple.

Anya Fiend-Fury |

Hmmm, if Anya was already standing on a vine then she wouldn't have needed to move anywhere to attack, as I said, I couldn't see a map at the time I posted her action. The way it was played out kinda seems like a waste of a good roll. But anyway, it's done so let's just roll with it, perhasa it makes for a more cinematic battle anyway

Stefnir Ogmundrsson |

Stefnir tries to remember anything he might know about this abomination.
Then attempts to hit it with an Ray of Frost
Ray of Frost (1d20+1=5) Ranged Touch
Boy if I could do Stefnir over again I'd take the animal companion. Druid is really weak at low levels with just the domain power...but at least it fits the concept. (Though a polar bear animal companion would as well ;-)

Ari Thornsson |

Ari suprised for a moment, at the way the plant grabbed Anya and is squeezing her as if she were a rag doll, flies into action.
Ari jumps forward, twisting in the air to dodge the writhing tentacles to stand in front of the plants mass.
Acrobatics check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
He then brings down the Greataxe with all his might.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Hoping to damage the plant enough to release Anya
Damage 1d12 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 I hope this is correct 1.5 Str +2 Power attack

![]() |

Stefnir
I can see why no one is posting their positions on the map, the squares do not show up. Can everyone print off and mark in the squares?
Stefnir moves forwards a little to allow him the opportunity to fire a ray of frost at the plant. It hits the foliage but the vines does not even flinch merely continues to writhe.move to 011
Both Kurn and Ari can only reach the vine monster by charging too. Kurn ends up at L7 and Ari at J7. With Anya tangled at M7.
Kurn's trident stabs deep into the central plant K/L6 and white light detonates with a flash causing the plant to shiver and shake. Ari quickly follows up the attack, charging in regardless of danger and his axe smashes down slicing the vines all around.
Ari has +5 strength which equates to +7 damage with a two handed weapon and power attack makes that +10 on damage.

![]() |

To defend itself the creature calls on its innate magical power and all the vines around the edge of the chamber start to whip and slice around the chamber. They reach out for the party's flesh.
In game terms, any square within ten feet of a patch of mossy vines on cave's surrounding walls, has the entangle vines waiting for them. The details of the spell are linked to help anyone decide how they move about the chamber.
Then suddenly a spine shoots out of a niche at Ari's back. At the same time two more fly towards Stefnir and Ragnar.
Ari's spine attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3, Stefnir's spine attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5, Ragnar's spine attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10, damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6. anyone hit must also make a Fort save DC13 or be staggered for one round.
Stefnir feels a sudden pain in his shoulder.
The dancing lights show up the spiny creatures which have moved to the front of each niche. All three niches are in the ceiling making it impossible to hit them without reach or missiles. They are red coloured urchins covered like porcupines ready to attack again and again.
If I get time I will resend the map squared but its unlikely when both my kids are sick and we are getting roughly four hours sleep a night at the mo.

Anya Fiend-Fury |

Ooops, looking at the original post, Anya does indeed have a greataxe, not a battleaxe. My bad. For her turn...
Shocked, embarrased and enraged as never before to be caught and currently at the losing end of a battle with a plant Anya, aided by her sister's magic, struggles with all her strength and fury to be free
CMB:1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
Breaking free of the grasp, if just barely, the furious Barbarian ignores her grevious wounds and focuses her rage through the blade of her greataxe that she swings two-handed at her foe:
Attack & Damage:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d12 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
FW
FW I just realized that the Rage Power I had chosen for Anya is not available to her until she reaches 4th level, so I chose another.
-Quick Reflexes (Ex): While raging, the barbarian can make one additional attack of opportunity per round.
Also realized I was still missing a Trait after all this time so chose Survivor
If these changes work for you great, if not just lemme know and I'll do something different. Cool?

Ragnar Stolen-Voice |

I haven't had a chance to set up the map on my computer and track everyone's placement, so please bear with me if I'm not precise. And sorry to be the rules stickler but is Ari proficient with the greataxe? There may be a penalty involved, though it may be negated if he's flanking.
Ragnar snarls and charges at the plant monster, battleaxe aloft.
Charging the plant, +2 attack, -2 AC; I'll make a reflex save just in case. AC=13 until next turn.
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Battleaxe charge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Hold this Khal, we have plenty to happen this round before we get to you again. All I want is the rest of the party's actions and then there is the End of Round.
Ragnar is right so Ari misses. Like I said....I am fragged at the moment. Thanks for the spot, JK. Looks like tomorrow is going to be even longer so I will leave it here for now.

Anya Fiend-Fury |

Thanks FW, that info does help. But all in all, I've gotta play Anya like...Anya ;) I'm assuming that since i already rolled I don't get to roll again, yes?
Shocked, embarrased and enraged as never before to be caught and currently at the losing end of a battle with a plant Anya, aided by her sister's magic, struggles with all her strength and fury to be free
CMB:1d20 + 16 ? (4) + 16 = 20
Breaking free of the grasp, if just barely, the furious Barbarian ignores her grevious wounds and standing by force of will alone, the warrior focuses her rage through the blade of her greataxe that she swings two-handed at her foe:
Attack & Damage:1d20 + 6 ? (7) + 6 = 13
1d12 + 6 ? (4) + 6 = 10

Ari Thornsson |

Ari suddenly remembers, not being used to such unwieldly weapons, no wonder he cant damage the plant. He drops the Greataxe on the floor and draws a weapon he is much more at home with. The blade almost sings as it slashes at the plant.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 possible crit, if you can crit a plant
Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 Sneak Attack
Possible Crit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 = 15 plus 1d6 ⇒ 4 Sneak Attack

Khal - I spoilered all that so you decide again knowing fully the predicament Anya is in. I wouldn't have minded if you had chosen differently. But like you say, she is a raging barbarian and always will be.
Anya
The trident has no apparent effect on the healing that everyone receives. The positive energy washes over everyone. Then the smell of salt and sea starts to fizz and pop from the top of the coral altar.

Possible Crit 1d20+6
Damage 2d6+10 plus 1d6 Sneak Attack
It needs to be a natural 18-20 for the rapier (which I guess you are using) for it to be a critical threat. Ari isn't flanking so not sneak attack either.
The rapier skewers in and stabs at the heart of a clump of foliage.
