i haven't done that in almost 4 years, and i only did it to bump my grades higher. they gave extra credit for a class of choice for each one knocked out, if it lasted over 2 hours, it would come with an A+. i wasn't the only one who did it, i did towards semester's end for the report card spike. bump a 3.8 to a 4.0 by knocking out an unlucky bully or few for 2 hours. this gave me the extra credits in the class i was missing.

A strange school indeed... it reminds me of something...

Oh, wait ! This is where I saw something like your situation above !

(one of the school scenes which displays some... similarities).

sounds like it has similarities. they also provided out of date textbooks. from who knows how many decades ago? but yeah, one could get extra credit through violence. it may not be the exact same school that i went to, but a similar one, it is.

A disturbing side-effect of 'loving' your Eidolon is that your not going to exactly propegate the race of either - kind of like someone having a 'hot' cyborg girlfriend/boyfriend in some sci-fi setting is going to have the partner of their dreams who obeys their every command but the concept of having a relationship with your Eidolon is more than disturbing....the intention of the class was to give someone focus on the whole summoning aspect of the game, to create creatures that fight the summoner and obey your commands.

Sort of like 'Final Fantasy' games....you dont exactly see those characters even 'implying' to think Shiva is hot or whatever...
Plus the desire to love ones 'Eidolon' is a little X-rated, you dont see Pokemon trainers falling in love with their humanoid Pokemon now do you...The whole intention of the class was to create a versatile `monster` into a party with unusual or weird abilities outside of what the PC`s have access too, but from playtesting it in my group all too often I notice their characters seem to be `developing` an unhealthy attraction to their summon which is going to be like a black mark on summoners of all alignments in society.

Summoners in-game are going to be stigmatised for that kind of behaviour so much that other members of society and yes even other characters even in-party are going to be weirded out by this fruitless, childless relationship...

Heres hoping Paizo draw the line somewhere and prevent this class from winding up in some XXX-Rated 3rd Party Sourcebook like The Book Of Erotic Fantasy for the d20 system (very disturbing)...

My goal for my character isn't to express some sexual fantasy (I think many are confusing love with sex here) but rather to enjoy playing a character for whom the E is more than a big scary monster.

...

That and re-tell Pygmalion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmalion_%28mythology%29)

If your going to run two characters (summoner and E) you might as well give them an interesting relationship.

Some cool summoner stuff

I like the idea that the Eidolon is a extra planar partner rather than a slave, it makes a lot more sense.

While that more or less eliminates the silly evil summoner with the bear eidolon in a tutu it doesn't really address the original posters comment though, which is talking more about an emotional bond and is ultimately if perhaps strangely... very much compatible with the summoner class.

Whoa now, let's not start underestimating just how crazy beings from the Maelstrom can get.

IMO, for a Pygmalion type relationship, I would go with an unrequited love. The summoner is desperately in love with the Eidolon, but the Eidolon cannot comprehend the summoners feelings. Even sex could be quite willing, but the Eidolon has no attachment to it and thinks the fascination is bizzare, perhaps insane.

Nothing quite like your Eidolon asking the cleric for advice on how to care for their quite insane partner...

In the end, it becomes a tragedy, where the Eidolon will fulfill the wishes of the summoner, but never requite the emotions. The summoner may even see glimpses of pity or loathing. What do you do when your own creation thinks you are a pathetic creature?

that's about the question i was trying to ask in the first post.

does the eidolon have a character and feelings and can it maybe even LOVE BACK?
sure, it's going to need some divine intervention or such to take such a relationship to a normal level, giving the eidolon a mortal body and soul.

i would say your eidolon can clearly state his objections if something is of questonable action, but will still help you to the best of it's abilities. and if your alignment changes because of that, you probably get another eidolon the next time.

there's enough in the multiverse for every summoner to get a matching eidolon, even one that has no problem with being mistreated or having to slay little children.

I keep reading the start of your posts, and when you start talking, it sounds like you're asking if the Eidolon can be a beloved pet, a best friend and confidant of some kind, or even sort of a weird sibling .... love in a platonic sense ....

.... and then I read on further, and it goes right back to sex with Pygmalion.

So I'm not sure what you mean about some people confusing love with sex here, because in my view, it seems YOU are! =) I know that there can easily be a strong emotional attachment between two beings without there being a sexual element. I agree with that, and I think it might make the relationship interesting if the eidolon was like the favorite dog or cat of the summoner, or a close friend, rather than a mere puppet.

But then you keep saying stuff that flips right back to sex. I'm a bit confused here -- do you want your eidolon and summoner to be inseparable, loyal friends like someone with a dog they grew up with, or do you want them lusting sweatily after each other in the throes of some unnatural passion?

Can't we have courtly love without sex? One does not necessairly imply the other.

If you go back and read my posts I think you'll find there is only one sentence I mention sex in.

Pygmalion does have child with his creation. I'm more interested in using the source material to create an interesting dynamic between characters.I think I'll go with Set's ideas.

To answer the thread author's question of can an E have an identity, I can see no reason why not. It's your story. Tell it as you wish. If the question is "is there material in the mechanics to support such a theory and what are the implications of such an idea" then...

Well I guess that's why we have this thread.
