Ashwara, Bin-Asheel |
More loudly, he says "I wonder if you could tell me something. Why is it that gold is still the currency, in a time when no one needs food, drink, or clothes?"
Ash looks to Filleox, "People still need weapons, harnesses. There are things still left in the world that would try and kill you." She looks then to the robed person who is making the deals,
"Why is that thing crafted to look like a bird?" She asks.
Filleox Amaretle |
Am I sure? I have 100 GP, but that's about it. We can't blow most of our money just to rent one item for a week. What if we need that money for something more important later? If we found some treasure cache somewhere, then it might be different. But as it is, I don't know if we could even afford 50 GP, let alone 100.
Of course, if the other players feel different, I'll certainly listen to their arguments.
Philip Welstin |
Yeah, I don't have the money either, so either we steal a rowboat, or Filleox gives him the money. If we walk to the lighthouse underwater, we may run into monsters and we would be fighting them underwater, not a good thing IMO. I would try to steal a rowboat laetr that evening.
Filleox Amaretle |
"Maybe someone else here rents out boats at a reasonable price? Or maybe we could just pay for transport? Maybe we should ask around about that?"
Very quietly, Filleox adds: "I'm not crazy about the idea of stealing. The other skeletons have darkvision too."
Filleox Amaretle |
"You know, something else occurs to me. We're adventurers now, aren't we? And there's a surprising number of taverns around, considering that no one eats, drinks, or sleeps. We should be going to a tavern and mingling. Then we could ask about how we could get passage to the lighthouse. Or failing that, we could find out what dangerous denizens might be in the water. Or failing that, we might find out some way to make some money, so we could afford a boat.
"Heh. The way the stories go, we would hear rumors about a great treasure guarded by monsters. But of course..." Filleox chuckles. "...even if such an unlikely thing happened, if we wanted to face dangerous monsters, we could just walk or float to the lighthouse.
"Come to think of it, a boat wouldn't protect us from monsters... at least, not those that surface. Maybe our best bet would be to find passage on some larger boat with lots of other passengers."
Philip Welstin |
"Not sure if I consider myself an adventurer, but whatever. We could check the taverns out, Ash here could certainly persuade people to help us, he he. Maybe we can get cheaper passage to the lighthouse. I don't know if there are regular trips to the lighthouse, though. I hate the idea of walking underwater because you can't fight underwater."
Filleox Amaretle |
"And here's another thought: Surely the lighthouse was only a means to an end... and a very weak connection at that. We're really looking for Gerov, and we heard that someone matching Gerov's description was seen near the lighthouse, so it might and might not have clues as to where Gerov is or what he's doing.
"Maybe we should forget about the lighthouse for now, and ask if people have seen Gerov. And if not, then maybe Themon. I know, Philip, that you want to keep that a secret, but we really should gather information by whatever means necessary."
Filleox Amaretle |
Come to think of it, maybe we should be asking Twig for information first. He's a local, after all.
I'm starting to compile a list of questions we should ask people. That is, we should ask someone the first question, and if (s)he doesn't have a helpful answer, then we would ask the second question, and so on. Philip and Ashwara, could you please go over my list and suggest changes to it?
(1) We're looking for someone named Gerov. Have you seen or heard of him? He might be wearing red robes or carrying a golden staff with a gem on top.
(2) We're also looking for someone named Themon. He looks a fair bit like us, but with his skin still on. Have you seen or heard of such a person?
(3) We might be interested in seeing the lighthouse. Are there any boats going that way, on board which we might buy passage?
(4) Are there any dangers in the water?
(5) We can't afford a boat to get to the lighthouse. Do you know a way we could make some money?
(6) We saw skeletons near a boat house pulling on huge nets. It looked like they were dragging something vast from the ocean. Do you know what that might be about?
Once we decide which questions to ask, we'll ask Twig. And if Twig doesn't provide any useful answers, then ask him how best to get information, in a world where you can't buy people drinks.
Comments and suggestions, please.

twig tells you the following information
1+2) she hasn't seen anyone like that
3)no boats go out to sea anymore
4) she doesn't know
5)money is her thing, well stealing, there are many jobs in the city if need be
6) she doesn't know anything about that
Filleox Amaretle |
twig tells you the following information
no boats go out to sea anymore
"No? And yet we saw a boat house, complete with dockmaster and a score of workers. And one magnificent vessel that must have been well maintained. People must be using boats for SOMETHING, surely!"
Ashwara, Bin-Asheel |
Ash looks from the Twig to Philip and Filleox then back.
"If no one goes out upon the sea anymore...why are they dragging that thing up out of the water?" She pauses. She nods to Philip,
"Indeed, there are more questions here at the moment than answers." Though she smiles, "Still, the answers may not necessarily be all that weird or bad, just simply unexpected."
Can we actually see the light house form the shore here, vtw?
"So, here's to looking into another mystery later...um...tonight..." Her voice trails off as she realizes that choosing a time to investigate may actually be rather arbitrary.
Philip Welstin |
Philip, only being undead for a short time, still has difficulty adjusting to the differences. "Yeah, yer right Ash. As far as we know, those skeletons don't rest at all." He shrugs helplessly. "If the skeletons don't eat or sleep, at least they need to be entertained." When Ash fixes him with a look, he continues quickly, "Ummm, no not that entertanment, I was thinking of singing, or dancing, or something like that."

So Twig has no ideas as to what the people of the boathouse might be doing? I know that you (ulgulanoth) said that Twig doesn't know about the business of the nets, but still, she's a local, so I wonder if he's gotten wind of anything.
Anyway, maybe Twig might know the best place for getting this kind of information.
Filleox Amaretle |
"We can give it a shot."
So here's the latest draft on the list of questions:
(1) We're looking for someone named Gerov. Have you seen or heard of him? He might be wearing red robes or carrying a golden staff with a gem on top.
(2) We're also looking for someone named Themon. He looks a fair bit like us, but with his skin still on. He built a lot of towers in various places.
(7) The people running the boathouse have surprisingly high prices, as if they're not interested in attracting customers. Why would they bother to run the boathouse, in that case?
