Ash was born into slavery. Raised from a young age to be a body guard in a social setting, she was eventually sold to an owner. Once at her new residence she and a large number of other slaves of various backgrounds, training ad temperament were treated to a lavish banquet to which they all succumbed to a powerful sleep.
Upon awakening, Ash found that she and the others had not been drugged into unconsciousness, but deftly poisoned and killed. Then they had been re-animated as Osirion Mummies so that they could all be used to guard a very wealthy and eccentric Noble in death.
So, for what seemed an interminable age, the group of undead guardians whiled away their existence within the halls and lavish chambers of their dead master. (Hence Ashs' educated back ground. Lots of time to study ancient, stored tomes when one is an intelligent undead.)
Then, one 'day' all of the Tomb denizens felt a 'change'. The curse or 'binding' that had compelled them to stay and guard their master against any living who would dare defile his grave vanished. The denizens opened the Tomb doors and wandered out into a world they no longer recognized. Since then, all having gone their separate ways, Ash has wandered and searched for a 'place' now that she is, in a morbid way, Free.
Since then, she has found the land of 'Geb' to be a place where, at least for the current term, a place where 'people' such as she are not quite shunned and can partake in some what 'normal' lives.
