Seriously, guys, never talk about women from my past on Facebook. Spookily, a lot of them are there somewhere... >:(
Now I can't get it out of my head. I'll be on FB posting my status, and then I won't resist posting, "And how about <redacted> and women from his past? What's up with that?"

Hee hee. I meant for David.
I do feel like I helped you out in math. :)

I'm good, thanks. The job seems dealable. It is a government job, so my Libertarian tendencies are constantly disgusted by the pure ridiculousness of the bureaucratic behemoth that is our government in action. The plus side is that the census is staffed with non-career bureaucrats, at least at the level I am participating in.
The job length is nebulous. They say up front that you are at the whim of the needs of the census. I can be employed for two onths at the most, then I have to be 'renewed' if they want me to continue.
The pay is minimal, but it is about the same as unemployment would be for me. Personally, I feel it is important to get out there and actually work rather than just collect a check. I am hoping that I make some good networking contacts while I am there. A lot of the people are high-powered retirees from all sectors of society.

Girl Scout cookies are coming in today, and my wife is the "cookie mom". Which means I get to do the heavy lifting (128 cases worth of cookies). That and my daughter's basketball game will keep me off the internets for most of the day.
I hope y'all have a good one, and I'll be back this evening.
I thought they sold those in November-ish. I hope I'm not missing out on my Samoas...

Yeah, cookie sales should be going on right about now. Unless there's a regional difference in cookie sale time, in which case I could be mistaken.

I applaud your need to work rather than cut a check. It is tempting these days to collect and sit. Especially for those with children. It would be nice to stay home with them.
I hope you make the contacts you need/like. I don't think I could do Government work, I entertained teh thought of teaching on Base...but decided against it. The idea of some Higher up's kid giving me hell and no way to deal gave me nightmares. :)

This story actually makes a good deal of sense to me, to the extent I think I know it. El was the original Father/King of the gods. He was displaced by Baal (sometimes son, sometimes grandson of El), the storm god. This pattern is repeated in several other nature polytheisms. We now know from linguistics that Hebrews were just one part of the Canaanites stew, so apparently, they were the conservative group that, on the whole, resisted this consignment of El to religious retirement. When El is identified with YHWH and you have the progression from monolatry to henotheism to monotheism, you also get the rejection of competing members of the pantheon El formerly headed, especially those that were live option competitors. (Also in this process, there was some tendency to keep YWHW married to El's wife Asherah, which obviously won't work with monotheism.) Eventually, though, these rejected gods were literally understood to be nothings. The re-identification of these beings as demons instead of lies seems to have occurred much later, largely after what Jews would consider the biblical period (but already by NT time, in it's beginnings, at least.)
Anyway, I fascinated by it, and a former classmate of mine went to Harvard and concentrated on this stuff. So feel free to pick up any books by Mark Hamilton or the expert he recommends, Mark Smith.
Names are pretty generic. If you have any links to specific titles, I'd be curious.
