ALIGNMENT
Artificers may be of any alignment.
CLASS SKILLS
The artificer’s class skills are Appraise (Int), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disable Device (Dex), Escape Artist (Dex), Knowledge (Arcana) (Int), Knowledge (Engineering) (Int), Heal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha), Perception (Wis), Linguistics (Int), Perception (Wis), Profession (Wis), Spellcraft (Int) and Use Magical Device (Cha).
Skill Points per Level: 6 + Int modifier.
CLASS FEATURES
All of the following are class features of the Artificer.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Artificers are proficient with all simple weapons, light armor and with shields (except tower shields).
Inventions: An artificer is not a spellcaster, but instead possesses the ability to imbue items with magical power. These inventions allow the artificer to create devices that combine the effects of one or more spells, either arcane or divine.
An artificer has access to both arcane and divine spell lists, but only up to 4th level. Any number of spells can be combined into a single device. Spell statistics (casting times, etc.) remain unchanged, although no components are required and the artificer is considered the “caster” for the purposes of CL.
Inventions must be invented in advance; however they cannot be created on the fly. The time to create such devices is 4 hours per spell level used. As such, an artificer usually has a fixed collection of regularly-carried devices.
Inventions are temporary and unreliable. They are able to be used reliably a number of times per day equal to 1 plus half the class level of the artificer who built the device (rounding up, naturally). The device may be used by anyone -- but if used by someone other than the artificer who built it, it requires a Use Magical Device roll at DC 15 to activate (a failed roll indicates that the device fails to activate for that user, and a roll of 1 means that the device breaks down for good).
If the invention is used more times than allowed (by anyone), it requires a Use Magical Device skill check with a DC equal starting at 20 and rising by 1 every additional time the device is used. A failed roll means that the device breaks down and may not be used again (the artificer will have to build another).
Combining multiple magical effects into a single device means that both effects function simultaneously upon activation (effectively casting two or more spells at once) – but such devices are even more unstable than usual: The Use Magical Device check for extra activations starts at DC 25 + the number of effects used, and goes up for each additional usage by the number of effects used.
Iron Mind (Ex): In order to stay on the path to becoming more like a construct, you girded your mind against distractions. You gain a +1 bonus on all Will saves and a +3 bonus on all Concentration checks.
Battle Fist (Ex): You have used your skill and ingenuity to create a Battlefist is a mechanical hand that resembles a gauntlet with articulated fingers. Through a grueling and painful ordeal requiring a full day of construction and surgery, you permanently attach the Battlefist to one of your arms, replacing your hand in the process The Battlefist functions like your hand formerly did and it does not inconvenience you in the least.
You are considered proficient in your Battlefist and you can make a natural slam attack with your Battlefist that deals 1D6 points of damage plus your Strength modifier. If your base attack bonus is +6 or higher you can attack more than once in a round with your battle fist just as you would with a wielded weapon. You can also use spells and improve it as an invention as if it were both a natural and manufactured weapon.
At 4th level, your battle fist becomes a magic weapon and gains a +1 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls. This bonus improves by +1 at 8th level and every 4 levels thereafter. A battle fist with a +1 or greater enhancement bonus can be further enhanced or improved with the Craft Magic Arms & Armor feat just as if it were a magic weapon.
Craft Master (Ex): At 2nd level your expertise in construction and repair grants you a bonus equal to half your class level to all Craft checks made.
Item Creation: At 3rd level, an artificer’s invention ability expands to include the creation of true magic items, even if the artificer does not have access to the prerequisite spells. The artificer must make a successful Craft check (DC 20 + caster level) to emulate each spell normally required to create the item.
For example, to make a 1st-level wand of magic missile, an artificer would need a Craft check result of 21 or higher. To create a Carpet of Flying, (caster level 5th), he would need a check result of 25 or higher to emulate the overland flight prerequisite spell. The artificer must make a successful check for each prerequisite of the item.
The normal magic item creation guidelines are used, and for the purpose of emulating prerequisites, the artificer’s effective CL equals his class level +2. However, if the item duplicates a spell effect, the statistics of that effect use the artificer’s actual level.
For example – access to a 3rd level spell usually requires a 5th level caster. Under these rules, an artificer could emulate fireball at 3rd level – but the damage of a fireball coming from such an item would only be 3d6, rather than 5d6, since the artificer is only 3rd level.
An artificer can also make Use Magic Device checks to emulate nonspell requirements, including alignment and race, as per the normal DCs for the skill. He cannot emulate skill or feat requirements, however, including item creation feat prerequisites.
Scribe Scroll: At 3rd level the artificer gains Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat.
Brew Potion: At 4th level the artificer gains Brew Potion as a bonus feat.
Craft Wondrous Item: At 4th level the artificer gains Craft Wondrous item as a bonus feat.
Craft Magic Armory: At 5th level the artificer gains Craft Magic Arms & Armor as a bonus feat.
Self-Repair: At 5th level you are able to repair damage you may have taken. Each day you can use this ability a number of times equal to ¼ your class level + your Intelligence modifier. With a use of this ability you heal 1d4 points of damage per two class levels you have. Use of this ability is a swift action.
Damage Reduction (Ex): As you incorporate pieces of adamantine and other reinforcing materials to your body, you become somewhat resistant to physical damage. At 6th level, you gain Damage Reduction 1/Adamantine. At 9th level and every 3 levels thereafter your damage reduction improves by +1.
Craft Wand: At 7th level the artificer gains Craft Wand as a bonus feat.
Steelplate Skingraft (Ex): At 7th level you have grafted enough pieces of metal and steel to your body that you gain a +1 natural armor bonus. At 10th level and every 3 levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1 as more of your skin is being grafted to metal and steel.
Craft Staff: At 8th level the artificer gains Craft Staff as a bonus feat.
Ocular Enhancement (Ex): Through a grueling and painful ordeal requiring a full day of construction and surgery, you permanently replace your own eyes with the mechanical ones. These mechanical eyes grant you low-light vision and a +3 bonus on all sight based Perception checks. If you already had low-light vision, it improves by one step (you are able to see three times as far in dim conditions).
At 11th level you are able to add 60’ Darkvision to your mechanical eyes (if you already have Darkvision as a racial ability then the range increases by 30 feet) or improve your low-light vision by one step. At 14th level and every 3 levels thereafter you may add Darkvision (or improve existing Darkvision by 30 feet) or improve your low light vision by one step.
In addition, at 11th level and every 3 levels thereafter, you gain an additional +1 bonus on all sight based Perception checks. Low-light vision can not be improved by more than 5 steps and the Darkvision can not be improved to beyond 120 feet.
Salvage: At 8th level, an artificer gains the ability to salvage the gold piece value from a magic item and use those funds to create another magic item. The artificer must spend a day with the item, and he must also have the appropriate item creation feat for the item he is salvaging.
After one day, the item is destroyed and the artificer gains the gp value it took to create the item. This value is cannot be spent as gold, it may only be used in the creation of another magic item.
For example, an artificer wants to salvage a wand of lightning bolts that has 20 charges. Originally created (like all wands) with 50 charges, it required 5625 gp when initially made, or approximately 113 gp (5625 divided by 50) per charge. The artificer is able to recover the gp value from the remaining charges. He gains the value of (113 x 20) 2260 gp to put toward the creation of another item.
Forge Ring: At 14th level the artificer gains Forge Ring as a bonus feat.
Construct Exemplar: At 20th level you reached your version of perfection and become a living construct. Your type changes to living construct and you gain all the traits of that type (see the Living Construct section). In addition, choose one of the abilities listed below, you gain the benefits described.
---Adamantine Body: The flesh of your body has been entirely replaced or has been grafted with adamantine. You gain a +5 bonus to your damage reduction and natural armor class. Your maximum Dexterity bonus to your AC is +1, you take a -5 penalty on all skill checks that armor check penalties apply to and you have a 35% chance of spell failure.
---Construct Resilience: You are immune to non-lethal damage; however you lose the ability to benefit from regeneration or fast healing, even if you would gain those qualities through magic or a template.
---Fortification: When a critical hit or sneak attack is scored on you there is a 25% chance that the critical hit or sneak attack is negated and damage is instead rolled normally.
---Living Battering Ram: You gain a +8 circumstance bonus on Strength checks made to break open a door. In addition your unarmed attacks deal 10 additional points of damage when attacking objects with a hardness of 5 or less and 5 additional points of damage when attacking objects with a hardness of 6 or higher.
---Silver Tracery: Alchemical silver tracery covers the steel plate that is grafted to your skin and Battle Fist. For the purpose of overcoming damage reduction, your natural weapons and grapple checks made to deal damage are treated as silvered weapons. In addition you gain a +1 bonus on Fortitude saves against spells and spell-like abilities.

and; pathfinder humans get +2 to a characteristic and some extra skills; as humans; do we get those and the extra human feat for versatility also?
Nope, still provokes an AoO unless they take Improved Unarmed Strike.
I assume we do.
Davi has it right on both of these.

Sorry, just a question, but does the 'Warrior' get basic fire arms as a normal starting feat?
The 'Warrior' is listed as having armor and 'martial' proficiencies. Just asking for a slight clarification of what is covered by the Martial proficiency in the modern setting.
Thanks for your time and effort. :)
Cheers!

Nice list; please edit Dr Dob as expert; is an engineer not soldier, thanks.

Finally I have had a chance to start on my character!
This is him. I'll get the Stats and Background up when I get a chance.
He's a Computer Programmer/Robotics Expert. Possibly doing work on some kind of Robotic Drone to send through the Portal as a scout. Once in the Fantasy Setting, he'll start to become a tinker and head towards a 'Construct Creationist' angle.

While I'm not worried, yet, about losing a/the DM. At least things are still early enough that we could hopefully get some one else to step up to the bat.
Still, here's to hoping the originator, Twin Dragons, is still 'Going for it'. :)
I'm definitely still going for it. I've just been a little sidetracked. I'll get crackin' on reviewing characters starting on Friday.
I had grocery shopping today and I'm going to see This Is It tomorrow with my mom.

So were do we stand as for a probable start time; just curious; and would like some character feedback; now worries; I just dont want to miss out.
Well, he hasn't posted anywhere since Friday, and he did say he had an impacted wisdom tooth the day before. Let's all just hope he has a good reason for not posting and didn't just flake out.

*catches up on info regarding potential PbP DM's status*
Geeze, here's to wishing Twin Dragons all the very best for their rest and recuperation.
I got all my non-impacted wisdom teeth out and was out of it for a couple of days. I can only imagine it's more of a problem when they're impacted! >.<

Geeze, here's to wishing Twin Dragons all the very best for their rest and recuperation.
I had all 4 of my Wisdom Teeth out in Day Surgery but they didn't heal properly. So instead of 3-4 days it was a week and a half before I could even look at solids and another week and a half before I was fully back to eating properly.

Well, he hasn't posted anywhere since Friday, and he did say he had an impacted wisdom tooth the day before.
I did?
Anyway, I'm sorry fot the delay but my place was an absolute mess and I had to get it cleaned up; I'm still working on it. I promise that I will be going over characters starting on Monday.

Wait, just misread one of your posts. Still, good to have you back.

All right, I'm going to grab some dinner and then hit the sack. After I wake up and have had my coffee, I'll get to work.
FYI, I was working on my homebrew cosmology over the weekend and am considering using it with this game to see how it feels.

Well, its the holidays and craziness; and with all the topsy turvy in this big blue marble; well, i just be happy if we can get started by the second week of the new year; be nice to get us all in one spot and a thread up before then with all the preliminaries.
hehe guess we all cant be like me and a few other so called Lords
<== 7,936 posts
but hehe; we need to start a new thing; one look at your profile Davi and it just screams "call me Capt. Alias" hehe sheesh; you sure have a load of em.

Not that I plan on participating in PbPs, but I was kind of disappointed that there's no real movement on this one as I was intrigued to see where it might go (especially with the crunch integretation between fantasy and modern settings). But alas, I thought the same thing -- it's been the 14th since there's been any sighting.
Good luck, guys!
| Twin Agate Dragons |
Sorry about the wait, people. I've been experiencing computer and internet connectivity issues. I have a new computer on the way from Dell, and it's a powerhouse (Hard Drive - 750GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache Memory - 8GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4DIMMs Processor - Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor).
So I need to put this on hiatus until after I get it set up, which should be mid-January. Once again, I'm really sorry I haven't been on sooner, but I don't get out of the house much (I'm posting this from the local library).
| Doug Greer |
No problem, thanks for the update.
Hang in there, I've been dealing with these machines for more years than I'd like to admit to, and I can understand the havoc that they can put ya through, especially when they decide to act up.
The new machine looks like it should be a good one once you get it all set up.
I'll just be keepin' an eye out for when your ready to start up, as I'm still interested in playing in this type of an adventure.
