Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Welcome! Some of you may remember this little fan project called Wayfinder. It is now time for the sequel. Once again I will be lead cat herder for this project, and here are the rules and guidelines for submitting to the fanzine.

Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion.

Types of Submissions
Starting with Wayfinder #2, we will have the following regular columns:

  • Sidetreks Set in a particular region of Golarion, Sidetreks will feature short outlines for a sidetrek adventure. For this column, the setup will be “plot hook + a little backstory + potential resolutions.” For Wayfinder #2, these regions are Crown of the World, Irrisen, or Land of the Linnorm Kings. One sidetrek outline per submission for this column.
  • Tales from the Front Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths.
  • Taste of Golarion That’s right, time to start collecting for The Golarion Cookbook! One recipe per submission for this column.
  • Weal or Woe? Two NPCs (including statblocks), one helpful, one not so much. Include hooks for the PCs to know (or hate) this NPC and how to use them in a campaign.

In addition to our regular columns, Wayfinder #2 will be holiday-themed for release at the end of the year. As before, I will be looking to fill the rest of Wayfinder with crunchy articles for players and GMs, as well as fiction, poetry and art. Stuck on Golarion holidays? Check out page 239 of the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting for the months of Lamashan, Neth and Kuthona.

Guidelines

  • Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
  • Keep in mind thy audience. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service - keep it PG-13.
  • Short and sweet. No article over 1500 words. For art pieces, 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches max.

Submission Instructions

  • Conditions for Submissions. All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages, special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. (We will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations). All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.
  • Send all submissions to me via email with the subject line "Wayfinder #2". My email is listed in my profile.
  • All text submissions submitted in .doc format (doesn't matter if you use Office or OpenOffice).
  • All image/art in JPG or PNG, 300 dpi resolution preferred. If you do not send it in a high enough resolution, it will be resized appropriately.
  • Include your name and board name in your submission - example, "Liz 'Lilith' Courts".
  • Your entries will go through an editing pass for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process and your script.
  • DEADLINE: October 31st. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Unlike the first Wayfinder, there will be a set limit on the number of articles, and your article may be rejected. I will announce when submissions are closed for Wayfinder #2, however, keep those submissions handy. Something…else…will be afoot. ;)

Advertising

  • Fan projects operating under Paizo’s Community Use Policy are welcome to advertise their websites and materials in Wayfinder #2. There will be no charge for the advertising.
  • Third party publishers wishing to advertise their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game-compatible projects in Wayfinder #2 are welcome to advertise as well. There is limited space for third party publishers, so space is available on a first come, first serve basis. As we do not need to raise funds to cover printing costs, this advertising space is provided free of charge.
  • DEADLINE: October 31st.

Wayfinder #2 will be PDF only, available here at Paizo.com, with print-on-demand through Lulu at some point in the future.

I’m looking forward to everybody’s entries. Now get crackin’!

Dark Archive

Weal or Woe!

I'll see if I can find the energy to hammer something out.

I've been waiting for this. :)

Good going, Lilith!

How can third party publishers get in touch to advertise?

My suggestion is to send her an e-mail. Good luck with that!

Very excited about this one.

Hooray! Thanks Lilith!

Submit soon, remember there's a cap this time. As Liz said, some of the articles that don't make it into PDF wayfinder will find their way...somewhere else... ;)

A quick addendum: The Sidetrek outlines are 250 words each.

The Exchange

Hmm

Sweet. I'll see what I can come up with. Since the release of the Core Rules I've got multiple pots simmering, so I've probably got something I can polish up for submission.

Sovereign Court

I will volunteer my pencil for providing some artwork again. :)

Huzzah!

Congratz in advance and THANKS in advance for all of your hard work Lillith!

(Head Cat-herder, indeed!) :D

I would happy to submit an article or two for consideration, but I'm not honestly sure that I can write with that few words! (As any who have muddled through my earliest PbP posts will attest!) :P

However, I would love to place myself in the category of 'One who tried!".

<starts pulling out hair in advance, so he can get to work sooner>

Huzzah! After successful trial of the prototype weapon, Phase I of the World Domination plan has now been initiated!
Uhh, that is to say, umm, I mean quiet, subdued tone jolly good show. And please forget that bit about world domination, right?

Lilith:
I could probably twiddle out something anyway, that met specific guidelines, but would follow-ups to Wayfinder #1 articles by the same author(s) be considered if they otherwise fell outside the guidelines above? Sort of serial fiction continuing on from where things left off in Wayfinder #1?

If a contributor to Wayfinder #1 wants to continue something that they wrote, I do not have a problem with that. :D

Paging Dr. Trevor...um, Tarren...

If Trevor wants to continue the "Greenhorns" fiction, I'm sure Jonathan and I would pitch in with the voices we used for the characters in our pieces as well.

Are you looking for crunchy articles at all in this one? Seems like a lot more of the suggestions you posted lean toward the fluff area a bit more.

Crunchy or fluffy, both article types are awesome!

Way to go, Lilith! You know my writing and art skills are always at your disposal.

I guess this means I finally have to write up "Bag of Lost Years" into a side trek submission.

Shadow Lodge

Hmm, suppose I should actually submit something this go-round *cough*

Time to get to work!

Lilith:
Will you be indicating on the contents page with 'Tales from the Front' articles which path/module they might be based upon so that players can avoid spoilers, or will you simply edit out spoiler content?

Edit:
To what extent should writers of these articles avoid spoilers themselves?

Okay! I hope theres still a good chance to get in! Just sent my submission in earnest!

There will be a generic "warning: spoilers ahoy" notation at the beginning of the article, and I will do my best to indicate which module they are from.

You're the first! :D

Awesome! Hopefully you'll have some forgiveness for my over-eagerness! I probably should have done more editing runs on the grammar, spelling, etc.

For NPC's, is there a level range you'd like to see them?

Justin Sluder wrote:

If you're referring to "Weal or Woe" NPCs, no, but the two should be similar in range/CR to each other.

Okay, so they should be "related" in some fashion as well, yes?

Not in the familial sense, but yes, related in some fashion to each other, but please try to avoid common tropes (Evil Twin, for example). Make them interesting!

Also, seeing as pathfinder doesn't seem to be advancing past level 15 you might consider capping somewhere in that range . . . but that's just a suggestion.

What about goatee wearing doppelgangers from an alternate dimension?

:shakefist:

I was going to import some twins from my homebrew which I haven't done anything with in many years.

*goes to come up with something completely different* :p

Ouch! Now I think Suri needs to hit the sand.

Shadow Lodge

Does fiction need to be written in the pathfinder journal style? Or can it be a straight short story? (I don't have my Wayfinder 1 on hand to check)

Either one is acceptable. :)

OCT 31! Ack! I need to get writing!

I was thinking of doing a piece of fiction that builds on what I started with the "Talithia's Tomb"...it may not have looked like a beginning, but that's what makes it fun. ;-)

So glad I saw this post today. And so glad that you guys are doing another issue so soon! Thanks, Lilith and Hugo!

Excellent. I think I have something rattling around in my skull that'll do the trick.

Hmm. I have a couple of ideas right now, maybe a follow on for 'Dear Diary', and maybe something playing off the Runelords Adventure Path with a festive feel.
Will try to get something in, Lilith. Drafting under way right now.
:)

Lilith:
I forwarded your email to my senior organisers, and hopefully they're now working on an appropriate advert for PaizoCon UK 2010.
