Tarren the Dungeon Master |
Ewald is in a bad way blood streaming from a number of wounds yet he stubbornly presses the attack..
Down to 9 HP people
You'll have to step into the grease to do this. In moving back and to the side to let you pass, Poltur is stepping further into the grease patch. Do you follow?

Initiative order / Round 3
Eria (23) -- in the hold near the bow -- ACTED
Amanda (23) -- in the hold near the bow
Ewald (22) -- in the hold near the ladder near the bow -- ACTED
Thing in the hold (18) -- behind the ladder near the stern
Liandra (17) -- in the hold near the stern
Galadar (14) -- in the hold
Poltur (8)-- in the hold near the bow
Mimics (8)-- near the bow, in the middle, and near the stern
Dismissing the dancing lights makes the thing in the hold slightly more visible. Galadar and Liandra can see a glowing outline of something catlike. They are also aware of the new threat posed by the ridiculous looking walking crates.
Liandra Nightwind |
Noting the walking crate Liandra resists the urge to laugh. Lookig past the glowing feline outline she makes eye contact with Galadar.
"Let's finish this quick."
She srges forward attacking in tandem with him
Attack 1
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
Attack 2
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
Amanda Veiled |
Amanda will climb the ladder partway before hooking her arm through to cast a spell, sending a pair of beams toward the walking crates.
Move action: Move up ladder as high as possible in one move
Standard action: Cast Scorching Ray
She will target whichever crate is in front and closest to her; if the first one targeted falls, she will target the next. Otherwise, both rays go to the same crate.
Scorching Ray #1 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Fire damage 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 3) = 13
Scorching Ray #2 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Fire damage 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 4) = 13
Oddly symmetrical...

WOW, that's just.....bizarre.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
The shimmering leopard like creature in the hold attacks Galadar again.
Before Liandra gets her attack.
The creature attacks with its claws 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 201d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 311d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Liandra strikes twice and the creature finally succumbs to her blades. It falls to the ground. The shimmering outline breathes shallowly for a bit and then vanishes.
Meanwhile, Amanda has hit one of the odd shapeshifters with two perfectly symmetrical scorching rays.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
Poltur climbs up on one of the crates that didn't stand up and walk away. He's now out of the grease. The mimics haven't moved from their position to approach you.
I'm sorry; I really have to update the map. Every other crate is a mimic. Looking at this, that means that one mimic will be outside of the grease on each side. I'll leave their attacks to the next round though.
Initiative order / Round 4
Eria (23) -- in the hold near the bow
Amanda (23) -- in the hold near the bow
Ewald (22) -- in the hold near the ladder near the bow
Thing in the hold (18) -- behind the ladder near the stern

Galadar (14) -- in the hold
Poltur (8)-- in the hold near the bow
Mimics (8)-- near the bow, in the middle, and near the stern

I'm afraid the map doesn't really clear much up for me, sorry. I have no idea where we are relative to one another or the bad guys. One note, however, Amanda has partially climbed back up the ladder she came down on, so she's not actually on the floor in the hold.
Lastly, who's up? Are we at the top of the order again with Eria?
Ewald Salodar |
Ewald looks around the hold..with eight of the walking crates to deal with and one of his comrades down there is only one conclusion he can reach.."Everyone out" he calls "we can't fight down here"
He berates himself for having led the others into this trap while preparing to cover the retreat.
Seriously..8 mimics..that's hardly level appropriate.

There's 4 mimics and 4 normal crates. The (8) was their initiative roll.

Here's an updated MAP.
Ew = Ewald
Er = Eria
A = Amanda
m = Mimic
P = Poltur
G = Galdar
L = Liandra
Dark spot = grease
Anyone missed?
Both groups are gathered around ladders.
Ewald Salodar |
Ewald moves part way up the ladder to join Eria while opening a second flask.He drinks it down as he watches the crates hoping that they cannot follow him up the stairs
CMW 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 6) + 3 = 14
Current HP = 29
Sorry about the delay..I'm having major problems signing into the message boards from home and at present can only post from work which means I am very limited in what I can do
Ewald Salodar |
"I know not but it seems whoever it was is no longer a concern off ours as he is dead.As for casting the ship off..I'm not sure if that is either possible or advisable or indeed if our adversary hasn't some means to circumvent that..he certainly seems to have the upper hand at the moment something we have to change and fast."
"If I had any hopes of it working I'd set the whole damned ship afire and let it take him to the bottom"
Amanda Veiled |
"Right" Ewalds voice firms as he pulls himself together "Suggestions please.but no arguments as we do not have long to act methinks"
"I suspect he's already gone, using magic. All I could hope to do is let him believe I'm one of his hobgoblins, but it's pretty obvious that they are all out of the picture. We need someone with stealth to see if he and his walking boxes are still on board." She looks at Galadar and the elf. "I think one of you would have the best chance of success, don't you?"
She shrugs, "I have no other ideas. Tell me what to do - I still have some of my magic, but I don't know how useful any of it will be."
Amanda Veiled |
"Tell me what you can still do..the same for the rest of you who can cast spells."
She looks shocked, "A girl has to have some secrets, sir!" Then she grins and starts counting off on her fingers, but she does so in a low voice so Ewald actually has to lean closer to hear her, "I can throw acid or frost or lights or a quick flash in the eyes, see magic, move small objects at a distance, or whisper at a distance. I can pretty much do those anytime.
"Or I can make a small group fall asleep, cast a ray that burns or weakens, deliver a touch that muddies the mind, get someone to see me as a friend, you've seen where I can make something slick, and... I guess that's it.
"I would guess that I haven't used half my power for the day - I feel pretty good yet."
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
I've been sick and offline a bit, but I'm back.
While the party talks, one of the mimics ascends the ladder, steps out through the trap door from the lower deck, and begins to change its shape. It quivers and expands in a bubbling wave seemingly liquid but defying gravity and flowing up and out in all directions until it meets what appear to be invisible surfaces giving it shape. The surface texture soon changes until it is doing a convincing representation of a brick wall.
Amanda Veiled |
Do the mimics completely span the deck or could someone acrobatic get past?
"We are trying to kill the wall-thing? I was saving these, but..."
She stretches out a hand and focuses her attention on the mimic that the others have been shooting at. Scorching Ray
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 5) = 15
I don't remember if she gets two rays or not. If she gets a second ray, she will use it on the same mimic unless it falls; in that case, she will aim the second ray at the second mimic. Here's the roll just in case.
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 1) = 9
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
The mimics do not block the entire deck; they block your view of the ladder to the lower deck. No one objected when Ewald said that he led you back to 'dry land' which means off the ship. You can get back on the ship and move around them if you want. Getting on the ship and around them will mean moving through a two threatened squares though.
