Perhaps Amanda forgot to mention the grease to Eria. Eria is now in the water.

Make two successful DC 10 Swim checks and you're there.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Rogue 6

While Liandra fights, I'll take a moment to down a curative potion.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

That brings me up to 19 hp.

Uh Amanda dismissed the grease spell.

Amanda Veiled wrote:

Amanda will gesture to the hobgoblin to swim to the end of the ramp and dismiss the Grease spell on the doors.

"Save your arrow, Eria, unless he actually makes it out of the water."

Eria should be fine climbing across.

Whoops. Missed that.

Eria's fine climbing across.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

Not sure why he needs to swim as he was walking along the seabed but...

Swim1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Swim1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Swim1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Swim1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Swim1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Well looks like it's going to be another round at least.

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

As the hobgobliin misses Liandra laughs, a mocking grin across her face she drags her blades accross him again.

"You should be running."

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Oh, right. The water breathing. Okay, let me check. ... It's 60' from where you were to the foot of the ramp. It's 15 ft. down and 15 ft. up. You move at half your speed as a full round action in the water. ... It should be taking a lot longer than 3 rounds but I'll make it three rounds. ... So, one more round; maybe there will still be something lef to kill.

Attack 1

1d4+2

Attack 2
1d20+12
1d4+2

Liandra hits the hobgoblin twice.

The hobgoblin returns the attack with his flail.

1d20 + 9; 1d8 + 5

And one more time...

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

Genuinely amused now Liandra openly taunt's the hobgoblin.

"Too stupid to run, just bright enough to die."

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

In her mirth her first attack comes nowhere near the enemy. her second however cuts deep.

The hobgoblin opens his mouth to explain but realizes it isn't necessary and attacks again.
(I'm excluding the others because I'm sure Liandra can handle this guy. Lots of hp but not much else.)
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

He swings his flail so hard that had it come anywhere close, it would have really hurt.

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

I didn't mean the others couldn't act; I just didn't feel bad about skipping turns cause this guy can't seem to hit Liandra. Let's get this over with.

Female Halfling Cleric 5

Eria continues to move towards Liandra and the hobgoblin.

Would Ewald see the swimming hobgoblin that Amanda dropped into the water? Does he have any options against it? And has it started swimming, or is it still treading water below the gate?

Amanda Veiled wrote:

It's still treading water at the gate. (The gate extends down into the water to let or not let boats through.)

Amanda looks down at him and points to the end of either ramp with a questioning look on her face. Shrugging her shoulders, she points to either ramp again.

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Liandra's pace quickens, striking with deadly efficiency.

"I think this dance is over big boy"

The hobgoblin that was either too stupid (or too afraid) to run falls into the water with a splash. The only living hobgoblin is treading water and begging Eria and Amanda for help, despite their efforts to get him to swim over to your end of the ramp.

Amanda will continue the pantomime until he opts to do something different. Or someone puts him out of his misery.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Rogue 6

While the others are finishing up the hobgoblins, I take a moment to examine the room, making sure there don't seem to be any hidden dangers, and then I look through the contents of the dead hobgoblins' pockets.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

Ewald notes the body falling into the water and moves towards the swimmer.

cue Jaws theme

It's dark enough in this cave that those above the water would need to make a Perception check (DC 15) to notice Ewald walking underneath it towards the body in the water.

Cue friendly fire.

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17

Wow! She did it, she actually noticed something!

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

Perception1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25Modify as necessary for low light vision

Liandra finishes cleaing her blades and turns, her eyes narrowing for a moment as she resheathes her kukhri and points her crossbow at the water.

Both Liandra and Amanda have noticed Ewald walking across the bottom of the cavern/port

Ewald? I think they are waiting to see what you do.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

How deep is the water?

Ewald Salodar wrote:

About 15 ft. deep. You've lowered the level but there is still enough for a ship to float in this space.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

ok as I read it if I make a sucessful swim check I get a -2 to hit and do half damage

Swim 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 which should be good enough.

Ewald pushes of the bottom and slashes at the Hobgoblin swimmer

1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 - 2 = 9

the unfamiliar enviroment causes him to miss completely

Posting will be spotty for a bit as my PC died this morning and I have to use my lap top

The hobgoblin, unaware of the threat beneath him, swims toward the door and tries to climb out of the water.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

Ewald follows along and s the hob goblin reaches the gates slashes out again.

1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 2 = 24

His blade bites for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 halved.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

bump

Horrified, the hobgoblin squeals and tries to climb up the barnacle covered gate and out of the water.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

He manages to cling to the side of the door but doesn't make much progress.

Female Halfling Cleric 5

Eria watches the entire situation unfold somewhat uneasily "Uh maybe we could just take him prisoner?" She suggests

"Possible, but how are you going to tell him of this plan?" Amanda says this as she gestures down. Whether she means the hobgoblin that thinks he's sharkbait or the submerged fighter, it's hard to tell.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

The Ranger slashes again at his target but misses ..

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

The hobgoblin tries so hard to clamber up a wall, that he smashes his foot down on a barnacle, cutting it, and slipping back into the water. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

He yells a long panicked phrase in hobgoblin ...

Spoiler:
"Shark!" or, literally, "Many-toothed-thing-in-deep-water-that-catches-us-more-than-we-catch-it!"

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

Ewald once again strikes at the frantically splashing humanoid.

1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 - 2 = 19

Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 halved for 3

The hobgoblin finally realizes that Ewald is not a shark and immediately surrenders.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

Ewald desists in his attack once it becomes apparent that the Hobgoblin is not going to defend itself. he follows it to the ramp and climbs up behind it to join the others.

After a few failing attempts, the hobgoblin climbs up the door and joins you on the ramp. The door is intended to allow ships through. People walking, can continue along the path into the next cave.

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

"Can one of you question the prisoner and find out how many more of his kind are here and where our quarry is " Ewald asks as he restrings his bow

Ewald:
I forgot to mention, ... As you were crossing the bottom of this area, you notice something large and rounded half-buried in the sand.

Did Ewald's attack break my charm on the hobgoblin? If the charm holds:

"He was charmed, but I do not speak Goblin. I will try those I know..."

Spoiler:
I think we established that he does not share a language with Amanda, but she knows Common, Abyssal, Draconic, and Infernal.

Failing that, she will attempt to communicate with him via sign language if someone else does not have a better idea.

Diplomacy to communicate 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 That might be the wrong skill - if it's bluff, the bonus is +15 instead. Not that it matters much when you roll a 2. :P

Male Human Ranger 6(favoured Class)

Tarren

Spoiler:
If that is the case he stopped to investigate it

I think it is obvious now that you are allies with the others here. Hard to pretend otherwise at this point.

Female Halfling Cleric 5

"Ask him where his boss is." Eria suggests

The hobgoblin grimaces and refuses to meet Amanda's gaze. Despite the different race, most of you recognize his embarrassed look as being one that says, "Dammit, I can't believe I fell for her!"
