Artifice Domain problem.

How does a cleric with the Artifice Domain put an arcane mark on an object for their Instant Summons spell? (Without multi-classing.)

This problem also afflicts the poor Rune Domain Cleric.

This is probably just something that needs to get looked at and errata'd. The spell makes sense in those domains, but the spell itself doesn't really function properly for a cleric.

This is an issue.

I will look into resolving it... in some way. The easiest would be to swap out instant summons with greater arcane sight, or something similar.

I was thinking of just adding to the domain that "Arcane Mark" is added to their cleric spell list as Clr 0. Not as a domain spell though.

Instant Summons seems 100% flavor appropriate for Rune Domain.
Greater Arcane Sight seems more appropriate to the Magic Domain.
Adding the Cantrip seems the easiest solution, and least disruptive to players with the 1st/2nd printings (since they are likely to overlook the issue or house-rule it to granting the Cantrip anyways.)

The Artifice Domain in Eberron originally had Hardening as the 7th level spell, and Hardening itself has been allowed off the reservation as part of the SRD by Wizards.

Was there some play balance trouble with Hardening so it didn't make the cut for Pathfinder? Because swapping it back in would seem to be an easy fix.

This is the 8th level spell slot for Artifice, not 7th. In the SRD (from the Divine section) that slot is held by "True Creation" - which, yeah, can be a bit of a balance issue.

This seems like the easiest solution. Several Domains have 'freebies' up in the Granted Power text (such as the Darkness Domains free Blind-Fight feat, the Knowledge Domains access to all knowledge skills as Cleric class skills or the Travel Domains bonus +10 ft. land speed), so it wouldn't be at all out of line to add a sentence to the Granted Power line of Artifice granting arcane mark as a divine orison.

Was there any progress on this?

If not, could people hit the FAQ button on Jason's post?

No progress that I'm aware of. This thing's a classic.
