male Gnome Bard 2

FW - I added that info for you, will do up description tonight. I'm all good to start next monday.

Cheers

FW:

Coat of Arms
Alinuyn's shield is an Argent Rampant Unicorn on a Gyronny Field of Verte and Purpure (Verte to represent her elven heritage, the Purpure represents her father's high nobility). She has, though, left this image behind with her past life. Gyronny

Armand de Seul's shield is sabal. The charge is an argent Weeping Willow, that has died in winter. However, at the bottom of the shield is a wavy, or chevron, symbolizing that though the tree seems dead, the roots are still full of life. Chevrons are in the Ordinaries section

I like the nightmares, and I see that you are still waiting on some background stuff from me. What do you need still? (Sorry I've been a bit flaky this week, work has been hell)

I finished her gear, feats, skills, and now I've finished the shield. So let me know whatcha need!

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Monday should be ok with me FW, pending any major changes on my character review.

Just to join in the fun. Aeron Brendcheke heraldic symbol is an argent cross on sable with gules bears for supporters. They revere the bear. There is a family motto above which reads, "God and King We Protect".

I'll answer about background info later today.

If you have read Sparhawk, he has a very practical approach to being a paladin. It sounds like you too, will skirt the fringes of your code to get things done. If in doubt, follow the code. Its only the serious violations that may bother me.

Languages

This is mostly for Mothman, but in case the rest of you are interested.. Bear in mind that most speak common.

These languages are taken from the perspective of the mainland populace and their nobility.

Common - peasant language spoken by all, except the nobility. They can speak it but often choose not to.

Crown - the Regal tongue, a form of musical and magical language, with many smooth hand gestures.

Draconis - mages regard this as the original language, the forerunner to all magic. It devoled into the much simpler...

Elven - used by the high elves and in all colleges. Which in turn changed into....

Sylvan - or wood elf, the talk of all fey and their kin.

Druidic - "dark speech" is the preserve of the druids.

Dverge and Gnomes have their own languages, but halflings do not. They mainly use Common.

Gerrou - "grave speech" is the harsh language of orcs and goblins. It comes from Gerrin, the old man, god of the Dark and Undeath.

Thieves Cant - the word of the underworld, the poor and more recently, some rebels.

If you want a different language, say such as Celestial, then run it by me and we'll see what can do. But the ones above are the main ones I will be using.

Do me a favor? Check this guy out for me and tell me if I am missing anything you still need on the profile. I'm pretty certain I have it all done now....

FW and Vincent:

Armand had been up for hours, preparing the horses, packing their things, and cooking breakfast. The food was lavish in comparison to travel rations; eggs, a fair amount of sausage, and toast with real butter.

Vincent would know something was going on the second he saw the toast. More to the point, Armand was fairly certain Vincent would know something was amiss when he saw Armand up and about this early.

He had struggled most of the night with how to open this conversation. Please don't kill me was at the top of his list, along with the ever popular fast-talking how did you sleep do you like your breakfast we're leaving for my uncle's islands would you like seconds I told him I was alive last year pass the butter please.

The Exchange

Talfen

Spoiler:
I struggled to find anything wrong with your PC. Most of this is additional information to help finish off the PC.

You asked about languages, well that is up on the thread so you can pick 4 more. Aristor knows several including Gerrou and Crown.

As for an arcane bond, that would fit just right, although I have no problem with you taking a familiar (very witch-like in this part of the world). Generally the wizards can be spotted by either their college ring or staff. The more powerful wizards have dwarf crystals embedded in their staffs.
However Aristor can give you a thin silver necklace with an amethyst (dark purple variety) crystal in the shape of a lozenge that will act as a focus or arcane bond, if you wish. It is worth about 100 gold.

Your spell-book is going to be very important. Firstly Aristor has included a second level spell in it, Summon Monster II, obviously you cannot cast it yet. The low magic feel means that no wizard simply gets two extra spells when they level. They need to be researched or taught along the way, possibly from spellbooks that Talfen finds. With that in mind, Aristor has given you three vellum scrolls of cause fear (DC18), shield and glitterdust(DC16).

The only minor error is that you only get 3 cantrips a day, no bonus for Int or Specialisation.

Oh and thanks for including a Concentration value, I liked that.

FW:

Spoiler:
Thanks for the review. Common, Elven, Crown, Sylvan, Draconis, Gerrou and perhaps Gnomish for languages I think.

Odd, for some reason I always thought a specialist wizard got an extra 0 level spell per day. Perhaps so in 3.5 and not in PFRPG, or maybe its just an error I’ve been making for a while.

I’m off to bed in a few minutes, but will update character sheet and add equipment etc probably tomorrow.

I think he will take the necklace as the arcane bond item.

Please just add the additional stuff to your background etc, so that we don't have to hunt my email down again. I intend to print off all the PCs just before we start. So I'd like everyone's complete, if possible.

Got a busy bank holiday weekend but I should be able to finish checking the last two PC's.

Spoiler:
I have finally had time and access to check your PC, sorry for the delay.

Combat Stats - flatfooted should be 15 (no dodge), Fort Save should be +3 (+2 base)

Weapons - fine

Feats - fine (great AC)

Skills - You can take 1 extra free rank in disguise for your background, note that if someone looks carefully they stand a good chance of spotting Alinuyn at low levels (disguise is not a class skill for you unless you take a level of rogue or bard).

Possessions - Is this going to be added to?

Racial - I don't mind if you choose the second favoured class after the adventure develops.

Background/Personality/Appearance - all golden.

Cheers

The Exchange

Vincent

Spoiler:
Thanks for your efforts on this guy. He looks good.

Weapons - remember that your AC goes down by 2 when you charge with a lance. For some reason I find this an odd rule but it kinda makes sense.

Special Abilities - you can lay on hands on your self with a shield as a swift action (its only 1d6 anyway). I'd put in a running total of current lay on hands "times/day 5,"

Skills - I thought I gave you a bonus rank in a craft or profession for free? You should have 10 ranks. Take an extra rank now please.

Possessions - will this be added to? general gear etc is what I am wondering about.

Wealth - 500 gold, you may want to change some of that to gems, semi-precious etc. Pathfinder has a nice little section on this. 10 gold =1lb in my games...

Description - to do

Good stuff.

FW:

Thank you for the free rank in disguise, I hadn't even really thought about needing that skill for this concept, though it does make a lot of sense.
Can I change my character trait? Maybe to something that gives me a +1 bonus on disguise checks and always makes disguise a class skill?

Similar to Suspicious...
10 New Identity: Whether it be a rival who wants nothing more than to see your demise, or the authorities who want to lock you away, for some reason you have had to leave your past behind and become someone else. You have become adept at transforming your true identity.
You gain a +1 trait bonus on Disguise checks, and Disguise is always a class skill for you.

That will probably make up the difference for me and I won't have to spend everything I have in disguise.

Wrath - how do you get such good maps for your campaign?

I am struggling with Photobucket and it isn't going well. I get jpegs of my drawn and scanned maps (onto my harddrive) but what do you do then?

This week my Photobucket account has stopped uploading the pictures altogether. Any help or advice welcome folks.

Especially when I am about to draw up the island maps for your adventures.

FW (secret DM business, eyes off you non DM's hehe)

Spoiler:
Hmmmm, my secret is I actually borrowed all the images for my campaign so far by merely doing internet search (images) with key words. When I find one that matches fairly closely to what I have in mind, I snavle the link and post it in.

There are huge amounts of resources availble in just this way. I haven't taken anything from peoples photobucket sites, and since I'm not using it for profit or taking credit for it on my own site, I'm pretty sure I'm not breaching copywrite.

So if you can, do an image search for island maps or some such thing and see how you go. If one comes up that closely matches your idea, then run with it, rather than try and do up your own.

Sorry that didn't help the technical aspect of your question. I actually have no idea about photobucket or other upload software. It was the one thing that worried me about starting a pbp (and is the reason I'm not running battle maps)

The other thing I'm doing for my refuge game is only constructing stuff as it's needed. While I do have a huge amount of resources for the general view of the world (again I'm borrowing this from a table top game from many years ago), the rest is basicaly a blank canvas until the characters ask about it or start interacting with it. This has let me build a really organic world in a past game and seems to be working with the Refuge game to date as well. Saves a ton of pre game work and allows the players to have some input in how things work.

Hope that helps

Cheers

The Exchange

Ta Wrath.

Everyone who can capture images for a pbp game.

Spoiler:
Wrath, you say you get links from the internet. How do you get them? It's the nuts and bolts of moving a picture from the site to your screen that I struggle with. Do you use photoshop? I just use photobucket because it took out all the heartache (just had to press one button). I find this stuff very frustrating.

BTW - I like drawing maps and I use your approach to every campaign. I never do more than I have to. Too many projects.

For anyone interested (spoilered for space)

Spoiler:
When I find the page that has the picture i like, I just make sure I go to the full image. Then I highlight the url address at the top of the internet explorer page. I copy it and past it in the thread using the URL code we can use to link.

Example - At the google homepage, do a search, but using images as the filter (rather than web pages). Try looking up pirates. On the first page I get when I do this I found this cool picture of a pirate ship from a computer game. Would be good for my Refuge game perhaps.

Now I highlight the address at the very top of the internet explorer browser and copy it. The address is http://www.playfuls.com/images/news/foto_pirates_of_the_burning_sea.jpg

Just pasting it like that doesn't link it though, you need to use the url brackets available from paizo's boards.

{url=} insert appropriate stuff here {/url}

To make the link work, you past the web address after teh = sign and then close the brackets

{url=http://www.playfuls.com/images/news/foto_pirates_of_the_burning_sea.jp g

You have to close the brackets though or none of it works. I couldn't do that for the example otheriwse my message gets messed up. I used the funny brackets above hoping it would be able to show you the example without hiding it all (as it has done the first three times I tried to post this.

So the final link would be This is the link I'm talking about

Now I've written all of that, I'm pretty sure you already know howw to do the link thing FW, and this may not have been what you were asking at all. Hopefully it was helpful. I'll try and set up a photobucket account and play with it sometime soon and gt you some feedback. Otherwise I recommend sending out a general request. I know Rev Rosie uses maps all the time in her PbP's, so she might be of great help.

Cheers

As to getting images from a web page to my computer for editing if required, I always use photoshop. Right click image, Copy and paste in a new document, edit away and save as a .jpg file.

As to uploading the new edited image, it's all a mystery to me until I get around to starting my own homepage or getting a photobucket account.

If I get that done and get some more time, I may actually start doing a few proper battle maps for my campaign, though I worry that will slow combats too much.

Cheers

Human

FW/Wrath/anyone interested in maps (only spoilered for space)

Spoiler:

For battle maps, I use Fractal Mapper, which I got given as an early birthday present last year. I'm notorious for being bad with technology, so I had to find something robust and quick. This was it. It's available from DriveThru RPG and I'm certain can be used more creatively than I do.

Campaign Cartographer is also apparently wonderful, but after fiddling around with it for a couple of days came to the conclusion that home brain surgery was probably easier. And it was doing horrible things to my blood pressure. Not good.

The other thing I've done in the past (in my pre-Fractal Mapper days) was to draw a map, scan it into my pc as a jpg and go from there ... which leads me to Photobucket and the accompanying joys.

I do the following, which is quick and dirty. Load a blank version of whatever the map is up to your account (i.e. one with terrain features and whatnot, but nothing moveable, like monsters or pcs). Keep that one. My maps look trashed very fast, so keeping a clean copy is important.

Open up that clean map and click on "edit".

Go to the "decorate" button.

Pick "Text". Type in whatever abbreviation you've chosen for your pcs - e.g. "Ari" for "Arianwyn"; "M1" for "Spellplagued Foulspawn Manger 1"
Note - I change the text type from the default (Cretino) to Futura as it's easier to read. I also use different background colours for monsters (usually screaming pink), yellow for allies, white or blue for the pcs.

Add everyone you need to add.

Save as a copy. You now have two versions. The one with the pcs and whatnot on it, and the clean one in case things go wrong.

Once the thing has saved, copy and past the link as Wrath described into your post.

When the monsters, pcs and whatever move around, just go back into your edited version and re-edit it. I redraw the text boxes in the new location and cover the old ones with text boxes coloured to match the background so they effectively disappear. Save as original this time (so you still only have two copies, but this one has the new moves). Rinse and repeat.

This all sounds a lot more complex and sophisticated than it is, but I hope it helps a bit.

FW:
I spent the majority of the rest of his money getting stuff for him and his horse. I also purchased a Light Horse (combat trained) with military saddle and Bit/Bridle for Armand. It makes no sense for the servant to ride while the master walks. That and a light horse is faster if they were to get jumped and bogged down Vincent's thought is to die buying him enough time to flee. I have informed Elora that I bought the stuff so she should be adding it to her possessions shortly. My thought is in character Vincent took Armand to a farm or ranch or even a festival nearby to pick out a young horse that he bought for her. He then proceeded to get it trained for war. After all a knight must be mounted!

Yeah I'm trying to work on it. Mind you when you guys post is probably around 7 in the morning here, and I'm off to work, and I'm still at work (robert has the mornings off so he can get up and post) this is my lunch break right now and I'm trying to write something up but we're a little busy today since yesterday was crazy.

The second I get a free moment that doesn't involve me scarfing my lunch I'll post promise.

I try to keep an eye on the boards on and off during the day. It's a lot easier when you don't work full time (like me). My job is mostly looking after a house and son, yours sounds much more hectic. What do you and Robert do?

Post when suits you, Elora.

Thanks Rev. Rosey.

I'm a secretary for a Lutheran Church (which here in the states just made the big decision to ordain gays and bless same sex unions) I live in the south so half the church is losing its ever loving mind over the whole thing (which makes my job INSANE) we've also had to let a few people go so some people are getting anxious.

Robert is a car prep for Enterprise, and then gets stuck taking care of the puppy full time. Which he just hates!! :P

I'm hoping things calm down here soon (though we are heading towards Advent which means Christmas......yeah not looking forward to that holiday this year) so we'll see!!

Waynir

Spoiler:
You need to finish the alias. Still got the last three to do. I'd like it done sooner before we get into the adventure proper.
Remember that Waynir came by wagon this morning. His ship - the Cormoran(unless you come up with a better name) is located in a field on the upper slopes above the port. Its about three miles inland.

My mom is in town for Labor Day weekend, so RObert and I may be a bit more scarce then we would like but we will try to post, right now I am trying to give Waynir a chance to get a word in! :)

Heya FW (and anyone else who wants to wade in on this),

I was wondering how my bardic performance would allow me to use it instead of sense motive and bluff. The possiblities are maybe my training gives me insight into voice modulation which lets me pick up on lies etc. It also gives me training in the best tones to use for convincing others of the truth.

The reason I ask is it allows for more realistic applications of an ability and limits its use in certain ways. For example, if I was trying to sense motive of a group of people that I couldn't hear, then maybe this ability is no good to me in that situation and I have to use the normal sense motive check. Simliar situations could arrise for bluff.

I prefer not to let metagame mechanics overule good world design, so was interested in your opinion. Given the political nature of our quest, this could become important at a later date.

was only asking to see if it was different than the heraldry worn by the guys who busted into the room.

It is different. The ones that busted in have red and green small checks while the Marquis is all about black and gold.

I think you may be mixing two bardic class skills there. Versatile Perfromance allows you to sub in your Perform skill, not bardic performance. Or at least that's the way I read it.

Nevertheless the question is a good one and needs answering. Your Versatile Perform is percussion drum so you could use it for Handle Animal or Intimidate. It doesn't say how that works. My feeling is that you have to play the drum to get the benefit, using the music (in this case) to influence the result.

Some of the others are more complicated but I would expect you to have to do something since it is called Versatile Performance.

How does that sound?

Cheers

Yeah I was mixing the wording up. What's more, you've found a mistake in my character sheet that I forgot to fix. I changed my perform to singing rather than percussion before we started and versatile performance is based off that. I need to fix that immediately.

I'll go with your take on things FW. To gain the benefit I at least need to sing a few bars. Since that didn't happen in this case we'll leave it as the sense motive check I had (which was pretty high on its own luckily enough).

Thanks for the feedback.

Edit - Character sheet amended to the correct version of versatile performance.

If not Armand continues to attack, keeping an eye on Vincent (in the event he is flanked) but more importantly keeping an eye on Talfen (squishy clothy within range of combat = BAD)
