Not in any great detail.

I had really hoped to see scout addressed sometime soon, and some of the old PrC's. Do we know the scope Pathfinder plans to take in rewriting the old 3.5 classes? I remember there were a lot of them in the "complete" books, seems like a lengthy project in itself.

I wouldn't expect to see to much converted that wasn't OGL. Basically since most of the original classes were beefed up, they should play well with the newer classes as they were designed to catch them up to those.

Just get your Pathfinder RPG book and mix well. I'm sure you will do fine.

Some observations that I'm noticing from running games today.

I have had plenty of first and second generation players at my tables, and when I looked around, I saw even more.

There is a lot of talk about how game companies are going to have to reach into younger generations to keep the game alive. GenCon shows to me at least that gamers like myself, a parent, are really a big step in that direction.

Our first session at the con was a character building session where GMs were made available to help new players get into the Pathfinder system. I had four players two dads and two sons. One father and son were converting, one father and son were were building for the first time.

I don't think that this is a edition thing, or just even a GenCon thing, but it sure seems that our hobby is just not ready to go into that good night any time soon like some naysayers would like to believe. (Not that we get that kind of talk goes on much here.) It appears that gamers of my generation (and I am far from being the oldest generation of gamers out there. I'm in my forties) are bound and determined to pass down our tradition to our children. And let me tell you, there getting some really good training. Something tells me that Paizo knew this all along.

The gamers I have been with today, are pleasant and well versed, and equipped with Pathfinder RPG books.

I got two more sessions to run tomorrow, and looking forward to it.

Oooohh, now I like the sound of this. More alternate class options, less actual class bloat. :-D

Just got back from GenCon and glad to find out a bit about the new classes. I had asked at the booth and they told us it would be announced around 5pm. We somehow got sidetracked and I missed it. Got another Pathfinder core for one more person in my gaming group and we looked things over at the booth. Saw Lisa talking to Ryan Dancey. Wanted to say hi, but didn't want to interrupt them. Was great to just see her and to check out the booth. We also really loved the new Reaper mini's. Can't wait to see more of the line when they come out.

This was my first GenCon and I had a really good time. We only came for one day and I really wished we would have stayed for a few days, because I really wanted to sit down and play in some pathfinder games. We spent most of the day walking the exhibit room. I am going to come back next year for sure and hopefully for a few days.

My gaming group was anxious to get their characters converted so we could play in our campaign we recently started. Everyone is very happy with the new rules. We have a number of younger gamers in our group so it's good to see them really get into and support Pathfinder.

Anyway, a great time at GenCon and I am coming back for sure!

PFRPG page 65 - Ranger - Favored Terrains - Urban (buildings, streets, and sewers).

A Ranger with two-weapon combat style and Urban favored terrain and appropriate skill/feat selection should work :)

I will say this about the new base classes—when Jason first told me their names, I was like, "ummm, cool, I guess, but...ummm...so what?" Then he went into more detail about what they were envisioning and why and frankly I was blown away! The more Jason talked, the more excited I got. These aren't the cavalier, summoner, alchemist and oracle that you have seen in the past. They are a very new reinvisioning and I am frankly excited to playtest them and give them a run through!

I wish I could have been at GenCon this year to toast your success and to personally thank you all for everything Paizo has done.

Our family group has now converted all of our characters and our first official PFRPG session begins Sunday. Everyone is rather pleased with the changes and looking forward to playing.

Thanks again for breathing new life into the game we love!

I hope to see you all next year, if not sooner.

Cheers!

It's super-easy for me to see how those classes could actually be awesome.

The concept of the "crazy alchemist" has a lot of potential to interface with the magic item system in interesting ways, as well as lending a steampunk (well, chempunk) edge to a setting.

Likewise, a more mystical, magic-focused divine caster would fill a huge gap in the system. I can't say how many people I've seen play a cleric who really, really wanted the class to be something that it just wasn't.

There have been several calls for a "pathfinder marshal", so I think that a "class for bossing people around" will find a home here, but it's not my thing personally. On the other hand, I've only read like twenty words about this "summoner" but it's already prettymuch the coolest thing I've ever heard.

Of course, maybe I'm just building a vast construct of expectations which is bound to topple (grumpily) once I hear more. That's the thing about teasers. ^^U

Nevertheless, thanks for tickling our imaginations, and I can't wait to hear more.

The Exchange

Anyone know if Paizo has any unsold PFRPG books left at gencon?

Dark Archive

Drat was hoping for blackguard. Curious about these new classes though are they based on previous idea's (ie Alchamist = artificer, Oracle = favored soul, etc) Or are they something new.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32

When they say "spontaneous divine caster" I of course think of favored soul, but I feel there is a lot of conceptual space for another one.

Indeed, I think that WoTC's shot landed a little left of the mark, in terms of what I expect when I think of an "inherent divine caster". In my mind, a favored soul (3.5) and a celestial-blooded sorcerer (Pathfinder) are sitting on the exact same thematic turf, and I wouldn't expect Paizo to repeat a class they've already written.

Either way I would be very, very surprised if they presented a class that was an intentional redux of something WoTC had already done.

Hydro wrote:

I think, from here on out, I would rather see a distinct divergence than a parallel universe. Given Lisa's statement, I'm guessing that Jason has just such divergence in mind. I will be interested to see the presentation of these classes in a way that steers away from the WotC models in a reasonable manner.

I will take your word for it. One thing I will say is that when I first heard the new Summoner, I thought "cool bad guy"

Oooh yeah! Give me class names!

Hydro wrote:

That class was never worthy of its own class spot. "Spontaneous casting" cleric takes a lot less space and does the trick, too. I think that Paizo's spontaneous divine caster will be more than a class variant in sheep's clothing.

Anyway, happy to hear the open playtest part!

As of 20 min ago, yes.

Liberty's Edge

Really? That kind of surprises me.

Any idea how many?

At least a few dozen. Hard to tell, they were piled up on the boxes all week. No way to know how many of those had books in them.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, OK. That's not bad then!

Unless I'm mistaken, I think I saw somewhere else on these message boards that they took at least 2000 - 2500 books, so if they sold all but a few dozen ... well, that's pretty fantastic.

One of the employees mentioned either 2400 or 2500 as a number while I was standing in the 2 hour line on Thursday.

Crazy Alchemist Dude- AWESOME! LOVE IT

Spontaneous Casting Cleric- AWESOME! LOVE IT! Bout time a DECENT one appears

Summoner- AWESOME! LOVE IT! Bout time a DECENT one appears! I can
to wait to PLAY it! Summoners ROCK!

They sold really well, but didn't sell out. The upside for fans that didn't get to buy at Gen Con is that there are books available for the shipping a heckuva lot sooner than if you had to wait a couple months for the next printing.

There was a six book limit and more than one person had an armful of six books.

(lol)
I scored mine Friday at the FLGS.
Today, I searched for "a packed of 12 by 18 in. construction paper and two 1st grade writing tablets" that my wife couldn't find. Nowadays you have to score school supplies; I don't remember having to do that when I went to elem. school.
I went to 3 Wal Marts, 3 Walgreens, Albertson's, Tom Thumb, and Target; I still need one writing pad.
My mom will pick it up tomorrow at Hobby Lobby; it's closed on Sun due to the Lord, much as Chick Fil-A is.

Psst... I got a connection. I can get dese supplies you is looking for. Meet me by the wharf at midnight with a bag of cash.

I was thinking of like doing the same thing/.....sitting next to the guy at Wal Mart selling pit bull pups and selling "first grade writing paper" that I had cornered the market on for a stiff markup.

Having had to search high and low for that very same stuff for my little gamers, I think you might be on to something here...

Liberty's Edge

The worst was I got to this one Wal Mart;.....
there were 20 sleeping mats and 2000 packets of manila paper.
Which, last year,
I went to 3 Wal Marts, a Target, umpteen thousand Walgreens to find.
F$#%ers.

Dice rolling, mapping, digital character sheets, and it links up with nearby iPhones so that you can input status effects and have them automatically applied to the other players' iPhone sheets. I'm not so much interested in this, but I was at the seminar where they talked about it.

I'm skeptical. PnP gaming companies should focus on pend and paper products, not electronic stuff. Remember the e-Tools, Gleemax and DDI debacles ?

Also the whole iPhone thing doesn't jazz me at all. (We're in Europe, Nokia forever !) Unless the app could be used on other platforms than just the iPhone.

The iPhone app makes sense - think about it:

Apple bucks the trend in a market dominated by a larger competitor as it makes well designed items that are easy to use and invariably very cool. Consequently it has a very loyal and informed fanbase.

And Paizo...

Dark Archive

I am not interested in an Apple app. If it was multi-platform I might be down. But I do not buy Apple products and I am not going to start for PF. The new books however, I am excited about.

If the Apple iPAD/tablet ends up being on Verizon, then most likely I'll buy one. Not touching the AT&T-albatrossed iPhone with a 10' pole, though.

Scarab Sages

Another call for different platforms here. I can't afford to upgrade to an contract that can get me an iPhone for a while, and when I can I'd much rather get an Android phone...

Course I could just write my own app but I don't need yet another half-done project.

Likewise, no iPhone for me, I don't like touch screens.

I've a Blackberry 8830, and will be getting a tour when my contract renews.

iPhone app...

SO happy...just be sure and call it the Wayfinder. Or maybe the Ioun Stone. This was meant to be.

LOL, fantastic - yes, it can cast Light easily. But have downloadable i-Oun stones for additional functionality...

I would find a Paizo app for my Iphone a great thing!

Paizo Employee CEO

Just to add my two cents here, Paizo isn't developing the iPhone app, it is a company that approached us about doing it. Since almost the entire Paizo staff has an iPhone now, it seemed like a no brainer. I am not sure how portable it is in regards to other phones, but I will ask next time I talk to the company developing this app. If we were approached by a company wanting to do a blackberry app or one for another phone system, we would be just as open to doing it. But right now, the iPhone is the phone of choice for apps, at least here in the US.
