Ten days before the launch of their much-anticipated Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook, Paizo Publishing today announced that the first print run of the book has sold out, with all preordered copies on their way to stores for an August 13 release. With preorders more than five times greater than for any previous product in Paizo's seven-year history, orders for the Core Rulebook continue to mount even as the company speeds to produce another print run. Paizo.com has retained enough copies to handle all paizo.com subscriptions and pre-orders. Customers who have not already placed a pre-order with paizo.com or their game or book retailer are encouraged to seek out a copy immediately following the book's retail release, as supplies are expected to run out well before the arrival of a second print run in early November.
"We thought we had printed enough to last us at least until the end of this year, but skyrocketing demand from our customers and distributors has us reprinting already," Lisa Stevens, CEO of Paizo said. "We have a healthy amount heading to Gen Con, but we think even those will go fast, so don't delay in picking up your copy!"
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook is the first release in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game line of hardcover tabletop RPG rulebooks. Clocking in at a whopping 576 pages and at a weight of more than four pounds, this $49.99 rulebook is the newest incarnation of the 3.5 version of the world's best-selling roleplaying game. Playtested by more than 50,000 players over the last year, the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook is the most hotly anticipated tabletop RPG release of 2009. A massive electronic download file ($9.99) will remain available at paizo.com.
"The phenomenal support of the constantly growing community of Pathfinder RPG players has been a staggering sight to behold," said Paizo Publisher Erik Mona. "To sell out a hugely ambitious print run before the release date just goes to show what an immense audience this game will enjoy in the years to come."
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook can be found wherever gaming products are sold or can be purchased directly from Paizo Publishing via paizo.com.

Wow. That's fantastic news...but I wonder what that will mean for those of us who pre-ordered them through other venues. Has a second run already been determined?
We shipped out all the preorders from our various distributors, so hopefully they took their preorders into account when ordering. This is one reason why I exhorted folks to place their preorders early, so the distribution channels could get an accurate read on the demand.
And, yes, the second run has already been determined and the order placed.

Will you start selling the books Thrs night at GenCon? My friends and I were planning on going Saturday and really afraid they will be gone by then. I am going to try and get them to go Friday if possible.
At GenCon, we will start selling books on Thursday morning at 10am when the exhibit hall opens.

Can you give us an idea of how many copies you are bringing to Gencon? I had planned on picking one up there and I need to know how soon to get myself in a line on Thursday morning.

This is the point where I scramble to get my order sorted out and done by tonight, isn't it?
(need to check and see what August releases are hitting on the 13th or earlier then, so they can all ship at once)

Yea, I hearkened unto the admonishment of Lisa. May it go well with me.

Congrats...wonderful news.
A question was previously asked regarding the number of copies available at GenCon.
Will they be sold Thursday until sold out or will 1/4 of them sold each day?
I am just trying to guage whether I need to lead the rush to booth 2312 or if i can take a more liesurely pace and follow in the wake of the younger and more aggresive.
thanks, Jeff

YIKES!
I had been holding off on placing the preorder ... and just fought to get the order placed due to having my bandwidth getting plugged up with a video upload for a client.
Here's to keeping the fingers crossed the number of copies Vic mentioned as coming to paizo.com will include that order ...
<crosses fingers, toes, eyes and strands of hair>
And congrats to the Paizo crew! This is great news for the system.

good news- I know from my group of 8 I am the only one who is a subscriber but 5 others have preordered books and the other 2 (less organised) have said they will buy them when they see them in store (they might need to be speedy)
What happened to have this sell out occur?
is it just that your initial estimate of books required was too conservative or did you only order enough books for the pre orders you knew were in place?
how long is it expecetd it will take for the second print run to be available?
will the second print run correct any found typos?

We hadn't planned on having any restrictions, but I think it's something we'll be discussing this week. (If we did divvy 'em up per day, it probably wouldn't be in even quarters—we'd likely reserve more for Friday and Saturday.)

We had to set the print run long before we had distributor orders. We thought we were printing enough to last at least to the end of the year...

We should have it in November. Hopefully early November. We might be able to fix a couple of things we've already noticed, schedule permitting.

I don't think it was due to a conservative print run.
