Also, Advanced Bestiary is the bee's knees.

Mikaze, I thought they got used in LoF. I'll try to take a look. Wish I'd picked the Advanced Bestiary up back when it was on sale.

Don't worry about it man. Legacy of Fire sounds like the perfect place for Testament stuff to show up.

It should still be easy to find an Advanced Bestiary somewhere, hopefully. As soon as you find one at a good price, I really recommend grabbing it. It really is quite awesome with a side of gravy.

The entire book is almost entirely templates, along with a sample creature for each of them. Stuff like Ooze Creature Troglodyte, Plague-Bearer Vargoille, and such. There are a number of boosted undead as well, the Dread line of creatures, for each of the general undead from the 3.5 MM.

Some of the templates are easy to apply, some are a bit more complicated(like the Transforming ________). And then there's the Amalgam, THE most complex template in the entire book(and maybe ever).

I love Nyambe, one of my favourite third-party campaign sourcebooks, and one that flew under the radar of most players and deserved much more recognition, particularly for dealing with a culture left mostly ignored by other publishers.

I do hope Paizo publish their own African-inpired campaign sourcebook in the future, as Nyambe was 3.0 if I recall, and could do with some PFRPG love.

They're coming with my AP, if it will ever ship! :D

I really want a Mwangi Expanse AP. The place is huge enough to support several with no overlap.

I see many good suggestions, though I think it could be a otyugh/glabrezu combo.

Do you have the Advanced Bestiary? I'd love to have a look at the amalgam template, and that is one book that I never see used.

No, I have yet to get either Advanced Bestiary or Tome of Horrors though from what I see of the recomendations folks are making, I will make a point of getting them.

Any way to get a print copy of the two works in question? I can't seem to find them easily ...

Tome of Horrors for 3.5 was never in print form, it's only in PDF. There was 3.0 versions in print (multiple volumes I believe).

Book of Fiends was in print, but it is hard to find. [I don't have it.] Snagged the Advanced Bestiary in one of the sales though.

Yeah, and not only is Book of Fiends hard to find, it's hard to find with a sane price tag as well.

It's a 3.5 revised compilation of two earlier volumes, IIRC. Armies of the Abyss and whatever the lawful counterpart was called.

Mairkurion, I'd give a run-down on the Amalgam template, but I would literally need to have the book in front of me just to cover the basics. I do remember that it took up more space than the other templates at least.

Other 3rd party books that have seen some love in Pathfinder:
Plot & Poison (a Green Ronin sourcebook on the drow, it stands out because the elements used were...ahem...a bit colorful...used in Sins of the Saviors/RotRL)

Gary Gygax's Necropolis (I think. It's been mentioned by the crew at least. Egyptian-themed setting and mega-adventure from Necromancer Games)

No problem--that'd be too much. Eventually, I'll come into it. Too bad Green Ronin won't register and update some of their lovely work and republish it for PfRPG.

Several of the books are available as PDFs from DriveThruRPG and such, if you don't mind printing your own or only using it on the computer. 'Twas the only way I could lay my hands on the Advanced Beastiary at a price I was willing to pay :)

Ah, the Amalgam template, three pages of guidelines for squishing two monsters together and eyeballing the CR to come up with something reasonable. In a lot of ways, it is like taking the "average" of two monsters. There is a type hierarchy to determine what the resulting creature is, expressed as a table. You pretty much just go with one creature's size, and average out the ability scores, and the final critter typically has only those limbs which are necessary for all its attacks and special abilities (thus, the Otyugh gaining hands to wield weapons), but has all the powers of both base creatures.

If the Outcast King is indeed an amalgam Bearded Devil/Otyugh, then he is a Large Outsider, probably CR 5 or 6, with a bite, two tentacles, and two claw attacks, the beard and improved grab special attacks, carries both filth fever and devil chills, and has all those nice devilish resistances and spell-like abilities. Depending on whether the glaive of a bearded devil or the devil itself is the source of the infernal wound power, it may or may not have that as well. Overall, a nasty combination, but since the base creatures have an Int of 4 and 6, I'm guessing he's not too bright. (Of course, if he's an elite, advanced version, he could be much more intelligent (and higher CR))

I've only ever used the Amalgam template once myself, bending the rules a bit to make a shadowy spider-fey creature out of a Drider and the evil pixies that weave shadow-strands from MM5 (Their name escapes me at the moment). While the result was satisfactory, the amount of work that goes into statting one up prohibits me from making common use of such critters. Still, maybe one day I'll get around to statting up Displacer Gnolls, Orc-hre Jellies, Troll-beleths, Morgh-worgs and the Beholgres etc.

There's a monster from Nyambe in Legacy of Fire 1 (Howl of the Carrion King). I beleive Testament is referenced a few times in the random monster lists for the first few LoF modules.

Ah...hope, information, and getting let off the hook. What a way to start the morning. Thanks, folks!

Scarab Sages

I've only flicked through Testament, but I'm sure I saw references to Lamashtu in there. Do I remember that right?

Yes, you do!

Okay, so here's another attempt:
