Yes, but only if we can lay our hands on Hoku in the immediate future. Elohir's Religion is better than Hasnett's any day of the week, and he's our best bet otherwise.

Male Half-Elf Warlock 7

Elohir's expression darkens considerably as he manages to recognize the meaning behind the symbols.

"Vecna..." he mutters. "The Maimed God has decided to stand in our way. I will see what I can do. Hasnett, please help me if you dare. The rest of you should stay clear."

Elohir's green eyes begin to slowly darken over as he concentrates on the door and begins muttering eldritch incantations under his breath.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Religion

The symbols momentarily flare with a blinding red light, then the glow subsides. The symbols are gone.

The flare has caught the attention of the remaining onlookers.

"Just another example of fighting fire with fire." Hasnett turns to the onlookers keeping her face and voice relaxed and calm.

"There are pretty new techniques - it's best to leave this kind of thing to the experts."

Good enough.

Many of the onlookers point and whisper to each other, but by and large they seem more fascinated than frightened.

Male Half-Elf Warlock 7

Elohir relaxes visibly and blinks a few times.

"I think I have done it," says Elohir as he moves his hand out to touch where the symbols were a moment ago.

Tentatively he grabs the iron ring and attempts to tug it open himself, braced for whatever may happen.

When Elohir opens the trap door, a large, blazing, thing vaults up through it, pushing the party back. It seems to be a creation of bone, with an enormous grinning skull at top that could hardly be mistaken for human. It is not, however, cohesive enough to be called a skeleton -- it is more a creation of fire with large bones clashing around within it.

Map forthcoming; a couple notes meanwhile. It has a fire aura 2 -- any enemy starting within 2 squares takes 10 fire. This overrides/does not stack with the 1d4 from the wreckage of the house. The thing has reach, but not threatening reach. The relevant roll to learn more about it is Religion.

Hoku is 6 squares from the wreckage. Everyone else is immediately adjacent to the creature. Elohir's cold spell has not recharged; everything else about you is at start-of-day strength, I believe.

Irawaru's initiative is not on his page, but I think it's +9. Thing's is +8. Aden's is at least +5, so 16 (Aden, you didn't include half-level).

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 121d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Was 16 and 11 before board-monster

Surprise Round:
Thing - move
Regular:
Hoku
Irawaru - take 10 fire at start of turn.

Aden
Elohir
Hasnett
Thing

Huh wonder how I screwed my init up O_o

Female Halfling Rogue 7

Hoku strikes from her hiding spot.

Sly Flourish vs AC:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 311d4 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
If Hoku still has CA: an additional +2 to hit, and damage +2d8 ⇒ (2, 7) = 9

Male Human Barbarian 7

Minor - Screaming Armour on Thing. It takes -2 penalty to attack rolls until end of my next turn. Standard - Bloodhunt Rage. I now gain +2 bonus to damage if either I or the thing is Bloodied.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 143d12 + 6 ⇒ (4, 7, 5) + 6 = 22
On a miss, I do half damage.

The leering face on Irawaru's armour comes to life, and yells "KA MATE!" as the warrior smashes into the creature, his hair burning, yelling "That hurt, you firey bludger!"

Aden forms a spear of black ice and launches it at his foe

Ray of Frost 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 vs Fort; Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 cold/necrotic, and slow until the end of next turn.

female half elf cleric/ranger 7

Do we have any clue what this thing is?
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 - religion, in case it's any help

Male Half-Elf Warlock 7

Elohir is taken aback as the creature rises up in front of him but quickly recovers. Narrowing his eyes in concentration, Elohir's form loses corporeality and floats through the wreckage 15 feet away.

"Wgah'n ebumna!" declares Elohir, cursing the creature, whose light begins to dance about inside the warlock's blackened eyes.

Elohir then bites his thumb open and blood begins to trickle down his hand and arm. Smirking, blood fresh on his lips, Elohir uses his own blood to sketch an arcane sigil in the air in front of him. With a flick of his wrist the sigil is propelled towards the creature and comes to rest on its body, weakening it and wracking its mind with agony.

"Back to the pit with you!" shouts an enraged Elohir as blood drips from his clenched fist.

Move Action: Ethereal Stride; teleport 3 squares away, maintaining line of sight; Elohir gains +2 to defenses until TEOMNT.

Minor Action: Curse the "Thing"

Standard Action: Sign of Ill Omen on Thing; ((1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 vs. WILL for 2d6 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 5) + (2) + 5 = 16 damage)) and on a hit, the Thing must roll twice for its next attack with a -2 penalty and take the lowest roll.

Sorry, wiped out from travel. Will try to do map and resolve tomorrow, probably evening.

female half elf cleric/ranger 7

Adding Hasnett into the mix to make your life extra specially Suzie for the update.

Hasnett swings instinctively at the Thing.

"Get back! This ISN'T part of the fire-fighting process." She yells a warning to the onlookers.

Righteous Smite (AC). On hit Irawaru gets +3 to melee attacks v Thing until end Hasnett's next turn.

Map at usual place (I hope). It may look familiar. Orange is burning rubble -- 1d4 for entering or starting your turn there, except so long as it is in the creature's aura 2. Creature has aura 2 for 10 fire. I rolled randomly for positions where you got knocked around. Hoku was using people for cover, but they have begun scattering in panic. 'St' is the cloaked stranger, who has not run -- more below.

Hoku hit, with CA from hiding. 20 damage.
Irawaru's armor screams, startling at least the creature. Miss for 11 damage (after flank). Irawaru takes 10 from the aura
I assume Aden shifted before his Ray of Frost, which missed. Aden takes 10 from the aura
Elohir teleports out of the aura, and doubly curses the creature. 16 damage. Elohir takes 10 from the aura
Hasnett misses, after flank. Hasnett takes 10 from the aura.

The bones clatter loudly at Hasnett, entangling her despite the creature's hampering from Elohir and Irawaru. Hasnett takes 15 fire and necrotic damage and is grabbed. Total 25 damage.

The cloaked figure rushes out to the mouth of the alley and shouts -- a woman's voice. "Run, you fools. This way, in Her name!"

Init:
Hoku
Irawaru - take 10 fire at start of turn

Aden - take 10 fire at start of turn
Elohir - +2 to defenses through his turn
Hasnett - grabbed, take 10 fire at start of turn
Thing - -2 to attack through Irawaru's turn
Stranger

female half elf cleric/ranger 7

Bloodied on 19/57.

Struggling to break free from the mess of flaming bones, Hasnett manages to bellow back "Easier said than done!"

Female Halfling Rogue 7

Sensing that the creature may need to be slowed to help their escape, Hoku darts forward and hurls her dagger at its lower extremities.

Move to M14. Walking Wounded vs Fort: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 172d4 + 7 ⇒ (4, 3) + 7 = 14 if miss, half damage. If hit, target falls prone, and until end of encounter it falls prone any time it moves more than half speed.

Male Half-Elf Warlock 7

Strategy Talk:
Okay. Mysterious stranger says we should leave. I say we can take this thing if we work it out together.

With my Hunger of Hadar power I can create a zone that damages the monster every time it enters or starts its turn there. I can also attack it as a minor action each round. If we all stand outside the zone and prepare our forced movement powers, then we can continually deal 4d10 automatic damage to it every round plus whatever we can do to it on by forcing it back into the zone repeatedly

Male Human Barbarian 7

Sounds good. In character I'm all for Rage Striking it and smashing its head in.

female half elf cleric/ranger 7

If Hasnett can hit it with a turn undead, she can shove it up to five squares away and it will be immobilised to the end of her next turn. This has the added bonus of making it drop her as well. Which she'd quite like.

Dimensional Warp, Aden to H10 and Hasnett to I12

Aegis of Shielding on it. Booming Blade 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14; Damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10, and if the target is adjacent to you at

"You have made a grave error, creature!" shouts Elohir. "You have hurt my friend," he finishes with dire undertones.

With a chant and a gesture, the creature is surrounded by starlight, which adheres to its skin and begins to burn it with radiant energy channeled from the Far Realms.

Elohir then takes a step back and throws himself into a frantic fit of arcane spellcasting. The chanting reaches a mighty crescendo, and Elohir looks pained with effort. He puts his hands in front of him, back to back, and begins making a tearing motion. As he draws his hands apart his face turns red and twisted from the effort.

Blood begins to flow freely from his nose as the spell finishes, and suddenly a impenetrable black tear in the fabric of space opens up on top of the undead creature. Unbearable, unfathomable howling noises emanate from the rip and inky black tentacles begin to flail about, swallowing up and lashing at anything enters.

On the other side, Elohir begins to cackle maniacally.

Standard Action: Dire Radiance on Thing; 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 vs. FORT for 1d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + (4) + 6 = 15 RADIANT damage and on a hit, the Thing takes another 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 damage if it moves closer to me on its turn.

Move Action: Move to I4

Action Point: Hungar of Hadar, burst 1 zone centered on J8; the Thing takes 2d10 ⇒ (10, 8) = 18 damage from entering the zone.

  • Creatures that enter the zone or start their turn there take 2d10 necrotic damage.
  • The zone can be sustained as a minor and I can attack all creatures in the zone.

On miss, half damage (and probably no Hunter's Quarry either), no push and no immobilise.

If she hits, she's pushing it to the furthest corner of Elohir's zone with advance apologies to Elohir for putting him in danger.

Move. Back to F16. AP to use second wind, bringing her up to 23. Still bloodied, but a lot less bowed.
