Monk + Magus: Can I enhance my fist?

Round 3: Revised Magus Discussion

If you were to take levels in Monk and Magus, would be able to use the Magus's arcane pool ability to enhance the Monk's unarmed strikes? The description says "a weapon you are holding," but I was wondering if that is done to intentionally rule out unarmed strikes or if it is an oversight.

Any ideas on this?

Liberty's Edge

I think many DM's would allow it, but it might be better to use brass knuckles. Just so nobody goes all rules-lawyer on you to say you can't do it.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm curious cause of some sneaky intentions on my part.

Basically, if you can enhance your fists, then you get all those bonuses on touch attacks.

Enhance your hand with Magus ability, then use spell combat to drop Elemental Touch. Elemental Touch already allows you to full attack with a touch attack, but casting GMW on your hand (which you can already do) and then giving it all 4 elemental properties would lead to a pretty mean touch attack that you could full attack with. Use spell combat next round to tack on Chill Touch, and suddenly you're looking at full attacking with a touch attack that deal 6d6 + GMW# damage. In addition, casting another touch spell like Vampiric Touch would give you another touch attack, which would inflict all of your touch damage.

Take Calcific Touch with the Spell Blending Arcana, and yer rolling.

Just some starting thoughts on that idea. I'm currently trying to figure out how best to abuse this idea. It may not even be through Magus, but who knows : )

A monk's unarmed strike is treated as both a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.

The rules say yes.

The big problem is the Magus ability is specifically worded as "a weapon you are holding".....though I guess you could always grab your right hand with your left, if the right hand counts as a weapon : )

Scarab Sages

"though I guess you could always grab your right hand with your left, if the right hand counts as a weapon : ) "

+1

But then you don't have a Free Hand and can't use spell combat :-( .

Actually better to enchant your foot and hold your ankle, that way you can keep a free hand. :-)

Archetype time!
Ascetic Magus:
Replace weapon and armor prof's with monk, add unarmed damage, add wis to AC. NO FOB...spell combat becomes your FOB.
Instead of fighter training, add monk CMD bonus.
Replace ability to cast in armor with ki pool as per monk, but uses current arcane pool to fuel ki pool abilities.

EDIT: HA DO KEN!!!!

The monk's unarmed strike counts as a weapon for magic weapon and other effects, so I would say yes.

+1 THIS.

I hope the Staff is reads this and includes it in UM, not in a book coming out later. I don't care if it ends up < monk in pure math, I love this idea.
