Purchasing Pathfinder RPG @ Gen Con 2009

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Assuming everything with the printer goes as planned...

Will PFRPG be available first thing Thursday Morning at Gen Con?

What about to VIG's who get the extra hour early access to the Dealer Hall?

Any shot at being able to get it Wednesday night? :)

Will there be a limit to the number of copies we can purchase?

Would it be possible to have signed copies for sale as well? (Pretty please?)

Any way to get advanced knowledge on what other Paizo products will be for sale? Any "out of print" stuff?

I was lucky enough to be able to buy a hard copy of the Beta rules in the 9 hours before they sold out, but I'm very concerned about being able to get two copies of the Pathfinder rules at GenCon. I'm not even arriving until Friday after the exhibit hall closes. I know that the Paizo folks probably learned from the Beta success and will have many, many more copies on hand, but I'm still concerned about showing up in the exhibit hall on Saturday morning and being told that every copy sold out already.

We are bringing, literally, 10 times as many RPG hardcovers as we did of the Beta. The Beta blew us away and we hope 10 times as many copies of the hardcover won't suffer the same fate.

We'll have everything we currently have in stock for sale at the show (and by currently, I mean currently in August).

The hardcovers will be on sale the moment the hall opens for the VIGs at 9am on Thursday. There is no way to get copies earlier unless you're a 4-slot or more volunteer for the Pathfinder Society at Gen Con.

We are currently not interested in putting sales limits on the books--we're bringing a lot. That said, keep in mind that this is a HUGE, HEAVY book and if you buy 10 copies of it we're not going to help you carry them somewhere. :-)

As for signed copies, no, but Jason and others will be living in the booth the entire show, will all have sharpies, and will all be happy to sign your book.

Couple of years ago I got a copy of the very last Draqon Magazine at GenCon and got Larry Elmore, Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, Monte Cook, Eric Mona, James Jacobs, Jason Bulhman, and others to sign it.

I TREASURE that magazine now!

Honest to God if I can find a way to get there just to get an autographed copy of the real deal, I will.

Hey, what does Jason and others like to drink and eat...

If I make it, I'd be happy to bring them some Mountain Dew or something to keep them going...

Happily, the answer to both questions is the same: BEER.

This is nice to know. I've been asked to pick up a few extra copies, though I'm not looking forward to leaving the con with all that weight. ;-)

Damn, I wish I could go, stupid thousands of miles of intervening distance and my student status. And when I finally have the money it'll be too late, likely a few years from now...

Like we say around here: Seven beers make a meal - and you have to drink something, too.

Just to be sure, the Pathfinder Adevantage discount will count for books bought at Gen Con, right? I'm pretty sure you guys applied it to the maps and stuff I bought there 2 years ago.

Yes, Pathfinder Advantage applies to all sales at GenCon. Remember, however, that for the Pathfinder Advantage to kick in, you must have had your first subscription shipment sent. Just signing up for a subscription doesn't give you the PFA. You need to actually have had a shipment sent. We had people last year who signed up the day before the convention and then were really disappointed that they didn't get the PFA on their purchases. So plan ahead!

PS-Thanks for the reply, and for letting (other) people know about that restriction. I'd hate to have anyone disappointed at the Con. You heard her folks!! Subscribe now and save!

Sorry if this is a newby question, but how do we get the discount? What do we have to bring? I'm going to be there for GenCon and you can bet the Paizo booth will be my first stop.

Well, from the perspective of a consumer, I agree, and I hope everyone who wants one can obtain a copy.

Then again, from the perspective of the success of PFRPG, I hope you sell out completely in short order! ;)

[unofficial answer]

I imagine your email address would do the job (since that is what you use to sign in to paizo.com), or perhaps just a valid ID to prove who you are.

Just a bump for this question. I'm a Gen Con 1st timer (thanks to PRPG!) and I got my first issue of my brand-spankin' new AP Subscription last night, so I'm kinda curious what the official answer to this question is before I start packing!
