I can't remember if I'm in or out?
I have had 2 SW PbPs fold on me, so I'm good for this one if I'm in, or I'm good to watch if I'm out. :)
If I'm in, I'll play a Mercenary who uses a Flamethrower (with an eye towards getting that Blaze Armour in about 50 Bajillion Levels when I can afford it).
If I'm out, I'll play me watching. ;)

I'm here. See profile for Character Sheet.

Hmm...yeah, it looks like you asked in the beginning but I missed it. Sorry. However, I think I can squeeze you in...sure, you're in. :D

Cool, I was thinking maybe going with the Gen'dai Race (Clone Wars Campaign Guide p.11) if that's OK?

This will be my Character.

"time to go!"

Pretty much everything is okay as long as you provide stats and it's not grossly overpowered.

My character is in my profile also.

Cool, Racial Stats are down the bottom of my Profile.

Disregard the majority of the Stats in the Profile as well. I just Copy/Pasted from one of my other SW Characters and am slowly converting the Stat Block over.

Reporting for duty.

Ka'nath: Not that I'm being a stick in the mud, but you bought a lot of gear, how did you afford so much? I had to go 'wealthy' and didn't get close to what you have in gear prices. Did I miss a trick to start with more cash?

See the post above yours.

Female Aquar (near-Human) Scoundrel 1

I'm here!

I've put my basic stats in my profile, though I'm unsure of all my languages (+ my Feat & Talent).
(I put options I'm thinking of in italics + discussed this more in the Gamer Connection thread)

So exactly what part of the galaxy are we in, anyways? (it could affect what gear i get, for one...)

About gear, I had two questions actually (I haven't played SW SAGA before, so bear with me):

  • Do Blackmarket prices apply if you DON'T have a licence, or what?
  • Can I roll for Haggling for these initial items, or is that only in-game?

Also, how exactly do "Re-Roll X" Talents (e.g. "Barter": Reroll Haggling)
and "Knack" (Re-Roll "a skill check" 1/ day) interact with each other?

... Anyhow, once I figure out a couple of those things, I'll finalize my Feat & Talent and get my gear finished...

(watching bemusedly at overly worried Sullustans nervously glancing at fresh blaster crater in the cieling)

I'll say that blackmarket prices apply if you have a license, and that haggling/diplomacy is only in-game.
    We're in Coruscant.
For languages, feats and talents, try to use the ones in the Core Rulebook (Saga Edition) so that I can keep some tenuous grasp on sanity.

    Female Aquar (near-Human) Scoundrel 1

OK, here's what our group looks like so far:
    Cordal, Bothan Jedi & Ka'Nath, Gen'dai Mercenary & Xarra, Human F-Sensitive Gunslinger
Hunter, Human Military Medic/Pilot & Ulula, Aquar Outlaw Tech
Looks like a good mix of Combat & Skill Abilities...

We're apparently in a cantina on Coruscant.
What are we all doing here, and how did we want to know each other? (we don't all need to)
I could have been working as mechanic/sensor operator on a freighter, but stopped off to check out "The Big C" for my 1st time... Perhaps Hunter was piloting that ship to make some cash & get to Coruscant? If that freighter had any sort of "grey" business going on, both Xarra and Ka'Nath might have had reason to be along for the ride...? Cordal seems more "pious", but could have just been a passenger...? Or anybody could have been living/working on Coruscant itself recently...?(I'm just throwing ideas out here, if you have a better idea, go for it!)

    @KC:

    Spoiler:
What book are those talents from?
All the Talents I was thinking about were from Core, the only non-Core Feat I was thinking of was "Friends in Low Places" from Scum & Villainy (letting you use Get Info instead of Know:Beaurocracy to gain Licences, and reducing the Black Market multiplier by 1).

I'll say that blackmarket prices apply if you have a license, and that haggling/diplomacy is only in-game.
??? Do you mean blackmarket prices apply if you DON'T have a licence?
Otherwise... when DOESN'T the black-market price apply?
...In-game skill checks make sense (should I just pay standard licence costs then?)

    We're in Coruscant.
For languages, feats and talents, try to use the ones in the Core Rulebook (Saga Edition) so that I can keep some tenuous grasp on sanity.

Cool. I'm really inclined to keep Squib (skim their Star Wars Wiki write-up if you want), but I'll either pick another "Core" language (Duro / Ithorese?) or (if you allow) train another Class Skill - +4 languages is alot!

    Anyhow, if you can confirm:
    A) How licences & black market prices work (that Friends in Low Places Feat depends on this aspect)
    B) If Squib is tolerable :-) and if I can use a language slot for an extra Trained Skill or not

I will get Feats/Talents/Skills tidied up and my equipment put together.
Sorry if this is overly particular, I just haven't played SAGA before, so I'm not super-familiar...

    On that Magna-Bolas thing,
I posted the stats to the GC thread but mentioned being unsure how "entangled" worked.
Looking at Scum & Villainy, I found something that put it all together for me:
Snare Rifle (weapon in S&V, but it seems like it works identically to Magna-Bolas)
The snare rifle... allows a target to be stopped (or at least slowed down) at longer range by shooting a weighted cord that wraps around the target. A snare rifle allows you to initiate a grab or a grapple against a character at range. If the grab attack succeeds, the target takes the listed stun damage from the force of the snare. A character that is grabbed or grappled can attempt to escape the snare (DC15 Acrobatics check) or break out of it (DC20 Strength check). You can use the Pin and Trip feats with a snare rifle.

and Grab (from Core Combat Rules)
As a standard action, you can make a grab attack. A grab attack is treated as an unarmed attack roll except that it doesn't deal damage and you take a -5 penalty on the attack roll. You can only grab and opponent up to one size category larger than yourself, and only one opponent at a time.
Until it breaks the grab, a grabbed creature takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls unless it uses a natural weapon or a light weapon. Additionally, it cannot move until it breaks the grab. Breaking the grab is a Standard Action and automatically clears oen grabber per character level.

The Magna-Bolas seem like a shorter-range/ thrown version of the Snare Rifle, so it should probably work the same way... Since they're designed to function this way, I think they shouldn't take the -5 penalty described in Grab, but it's your call. Magna-Bolas' write-up (d20 rules) also mentioned choosing Stunning OR Entanglement, but I think how the Snare Rifle works (both effects) makes the most sense - how can you wrap the cord around someone to Stun them WITHOUT Entangling them?

Or like I said before, if it's too much trouble, feel free to suggest an alternative, I don't care that much to think about it too much more (though now that I know how it works, it seems nice & flavorful)

That sounds good, I don't think that a language for a skill is a fair trade.

I'm gonna say you all already know each other, either that or you meet in a tavern. I'm not too good with intros.
I'll say that the Snare Rifle can sub, with the -5 split to -2.

All of us knowing each other sounds like a good idea.

    Works for me.

So did someone end up with a ship?

Nope, no ship, so it looks like we'll all probably be looking for work. We could always sell ourselves as crew, or possibly as a team looking for "work of any stripe or sorrow."

    Female Aquar (near-Human) Scoundrel 1

so everybody's OK with the background I suggested? It's best to have a solid story IMHO.
if anybody's socially inclined, i'd have been happy to make sight-seeing plans for Coruscant.
would any of us have had more background together? I was working with a salvage/smuggler crew that was anti-Empire but the captain retired and everybody dispersed...
does anybody have any specific goals their character is working on? mine has a side-angle with her home-planet Velusia, but it's up to KC if the story goes there...

Good ideas space-monkeys, we can't stay on Coruscant forever!
Actually, a suitable set of fur would be a GREAT way to discharge over-polarized warp drives,
I'll be sure Cordal is in sight if we meet a prospective employer :-)

    @KC:

    Spoiler:
OK, speaking Squib & Duro then.
Feat: Quickdraw, Talent: Spacehound (NOBODY else has proficiency in Starship Weapons)
(I realized I don't need to cover everything: others have Beaurocracy for getting licences, so I skipped the Friends in Low Places thing)
-2 sounds reasonable enough for the Bolas (since that's the only way you can use them at all)

About Licences, should I just pay the base amount for Licences up to Restricted, or what?
Also, presuming I bribe my way to get Military/Illegal Licences (since I'm not legitimately Military, like Hunter), how exactly does it work in-game? I mean, I presume hauling a missile launcher around Coruscant will draw some attention, and even if you have "the licence", they would ask you to leave (they just might not arrest you if you comply)...??? What's your take on it?

Anyhow, I should have my equipment posted by the time you read this. (no missile launchers)

No real motivation, she's a force-gifted laser jockey...dark side, light side...the force does as the force wills.

    Female Kobold

Quandary: Just pay the standard amount for licenses. And since I refuse to have my adventure derailed before it even starts, I'll say that as long as you don't actually get a missile launcher, it should be fine.

I do plan to work towards owning, and operating, a transport ship. The one thing that stopped me was the fact it would of required some roleplaying that may be better served as we get going.

I have no problem knowing the rest of the party at the start of the game either, I will have to finish my background then sooner than anticipated :)

If you all want to include me in your backstory my character is a Mandolorian soldier and battlefield medic. He fought against the YZV with the Mando's in a number of skirmishes and has seen front line combat. He likes to retell his stories, usually over a drink at the local cantina.

If your a female, chances are he has tried to hit on you.

The perhaps a joint venture on getting the ship?

Maybe that's what we're doing at the start of the game, talking to someone about buying their ship...since the Millenium Falcon's current owner is retiring... ;)

OK, well if anybody wanted to buy a ship, I could be available to "suss it out" and figure out what really needs replacement (thus saving some creds on your freighter mortage), and I could even do the repair work, too... Guild Mechanic's rates, right?

We *are* on the Big C though!, and there's all the wierd leftover Yuzhan Vong stuff to see...

If a certain Mandalorian would have probably let slip uncouth (and pathetic) cheese-ball lines like how he loves aquatic "positions", I'd certainly be much more inclined to go exploring with our other companions, Cordal or Xarra. I *do* only have 300-odd creds to my name, so I will be soliciting any ideas for "cheap/free fun in Coruscant"...

    @KC:

    Spoiler:
I updated the Bolas so they work normally as stun dmg, only Entangle has -2 penalty. bueno?
(I just thought it was necessary to be at least marginally useful as a weapon.)

Cordal has only 370 creds, but he would be glad to contribute for the cause of purchasing a ship. And he would be glad also NOT to hit on any of the women. He'll be happy here in the background, where no one notices him...

Hunter is quite civilized and of am military molded mentality, uncouth is not in his programming.

Does Ulula look odd for a human do to that splicing I skimmed? I never heard of that until now. (And I thought I was up to date on my star wars rules.) I can easily see my character trying to recruit you though if your good with repairs, or already have starship weapons experience.

It is making me rethink all my gear choices, and buying a used ship at start though. But with that work all done now I'm too lazy to rebuy stuff, so my plans where to simply use my bonus cash from level 2 to get us a ship if we need one by then. [wealthy talent.]

Sorry, just saw your post. Boards are getting wonky. If you mean, how's your character look, then she looks good. Could use some fluff text though. Backstory, personality, etc...

I just modified Cordal a bit. The SAGA errata gives Jedi jump and mechanics as trained skills, so I swapped out Galactic Lore for Mechanics. I realize Ulula has mechanics at a high rate, but it doesn't hurt to have a backup mechanic on board and it gives Cordal a profession as a cover.

I wish noble had mechanics, I'll have to be using a feat to get it as a cross class down the road.

...Working on it. I put up a better physical description for now.

With everyone getting their skills all finessed, I decided I'd replace Acrobatics with Galactic Lore. I really only took the Acrobatics for the "squeezing thru tight spots" aspect rather than ninja-combat-tumbling, so it's not that big a deal to drop, and Galactic Lore just seems like the sort of knowledge you get from travelling around and talking with spacers of every species.

the entire universe revolves around lightsabers, spaceships, droids, and so much more technology wise. There's plenty of justification to make mechanics similar to pilot in that everyone could learn it.

I'm happy at least feats are pretty common in SAGA edition. It isn't too moot a point really, just a general observation that seems out of place to me.

I mean some barbarian on Dantooine if he made level 10 or so hunting Cath Hounds has as much chance to pilot a starship as me. :) Why can't I get my hands dirty and tinker with a hyperdrive, or build a driod.? :)

    Boys, boys,
If you both insist on your right as Engineer's Mate to prepare my Bimmsari Stim-tea, I suppose we'll have to organize a little competition, to see whose Repulsor Spanner skills are most worthy...

@WW: This is my character for the game. Peek away...
But I agree, I'd prefer to have 2 or 3 more skills, just for Knowledge ones which will have little in-game effect. I wanted to take Life Sciences mostly for flavor, but couldn't fit it in... There's a Tech Specialist talent that requires Know:Tech, but I figure by the time we can afford lots of gear modifications I can bump my INT up enough for an extra Trained Skill. I think 2 Mechanics is plenty enough though...
(if we cover all the Knowledge skills between us, I think that's pretty good.
Actually, I don't think anybody has Social Sciences... Xarra?)

Knowledge skills aren't really what Xarra's about, she's a manipulator...
