Paizo soooooo sloooooooowwwwwwwww...

Jiminy Cricket! Why the heck is it taking so long to load Paizo today?

Other Seattle servers are getting over here no problem.

Hmm. It does seem slow from home now. Try this. Grab a free PDF and download it. If that's slow too, then the problem is upstream from our ISP. (The downloads server is on a different network than the website.) If it's not, then I think Vic's going to have to reboot one of our routers.

(I know that's not terribly helpful but there really isn't anything I can do to fix the problem -- the servers are my area of expertise and they've been running like a top the past few days [knocks wood]. Guess I really just wanted an opportunity to pimp the new free downloads page.)

Gary, I downloaded one of the free PDF's and it went very quickly. Replying to this post, on the other hand, took forever...

Yeah, that took a while. Maybe I'm clogging up the server by downloading every thing on that beautiful new 'free downloads' page ...

Getting TO the downloads page - slow.

Getting the FREE booty - fast.

Posting this message - slow.

So much free stuff, so cool!

But yeah ... the site's still slow.

The site is so slow that I have to sign in twice or more just to get to My Account. That is why I have three tabs opened. Maybe that is part of the trouble? Just thought I would let my 2 cp be known.

EDIT: This should be post number 300.

Just to help you time stamp - the site is still embarrassingly slow. Time to do a recycle and check the config (gotta love hung threads)

The site is slow because the pages are coming on slow boats from China.

Don't be bringing China into this lurking boy.

I'm in the office, and things are fast, and the routers are all showing normal. Is it still slow for those of you who aren't in the office???

Slower than normal, and then sometimes molasses ... nothing regular on speed, that's for sure.

Hmm. Maybe it's our upstream router...

Yes and no ... I just went and checked three threads with new messages of varying lengths. Getting into them seemed a bit faster, but getting back to the main message page was still cludgy. And when I came over here to report it, it was slower again getting into the thread and then to the post page. It's really weird.

I've done everything I can... I think the problem is upstream at our ISP. I'll open a ticket...

Confirmed - Still very slow as of this time stamp; Thanks Vic (you work... odd hours.) ~D

Actually, I was coming home from dinner when I got a text from Gary. As it happens, I was just a few minutes away from work....

I've got a call in with our ISP....

It seems like for the last 5 to 7 days the site & forums have been running quite slow.

As for the last weeks or so, for me the difference is that I would get long hangs that coincided, I suspect, with Superstar traffic.

Today is different, it's just bits and pieces slow. Posts loading two or three timestamps at a time instead of half the page at once. Main page a jpeg at a time instead of whole sections coming up together.

Vic found out from the ISP that one of our T1 lines was down for the count. The phone company is hoping to fix it from their end. It does seem a bit faster right now. In any case, there is nothing that we can do except hope they fix the T1 soon. Basically, all of our requests are now going through a smaller "pipe" so that is why it is slow.

Latest news......still slow.

Appreciate the Paizo team working it.

The problem now is that the repair crew needs access to a part of our building that we ourselves can't access. I've connected them with our building owner, so hopefully we get this sorted soon...

Also, former US Senator (and Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation) Ted Stevens wants me to pass this along:

"The Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material... And what happens to your own personal Internet? I just the other day got... an Internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday. I got it yesterday. Why? Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the Internet commercially."

I wish you commercial Internets people would stop dumping on my tubes!

Liberty's Edge

I hate it when someone else's Internet arrives late. But at least now I know why it happens! Thanks Ted!

What really sucks.. is when you prematurely get your internet tubes cut!

Then you don't have as many tubes, and there is a huge internet traffic jam with all the Internets getting in the way of each other!

Or when furry animals get into your tubes!!

Liberty's Edge

Seems pretty well back to normal speed today guys.

Liberty's Edge

Local file download speed 40-50KB/sec. Much better than the 2KB/sec it was yesterday.
