Varisian idol
50 gp : These depictions of forgotten spirits can
be used to augment summoning magic. If used as an additional
material component for any summon monster or
summon nature’s ally spell, the summoned creature has an
additional +2 hit points per Hit Die.
I am a player who wants to play a summoner cleric (Desna) and would like to be able to make these myself instead of buying them. What skill would you use to make these and how much should it cost?

I'd probably go with Craft (sculpting) or (woodcarving), and treat it like any other Craft skill.

If you want to make them, Craft (Sculpting) is most appropriate.
However, flavor-wise, these are ancient artifacts, even if they are plentiful ones, so what you'd really be making is a knock-off. I'd suggest adding a Knowledge(Religion) or Knowledge(Arcana) roll to the craft process, in order to make sure you know how to make an idol useful for summoning, instead of just a stone trinket.

Heh, that gives me an even better idea; mass produce "genuine Varisian idols" with Forgery, sell them for a fortune, then skip town and load up on the real mccoy. Way easier than all those pesky Craft checks.

That's funny (and probably true)... I wonder how Desna would feel about a cleric doing that? Am I correct that since it says "material component" they vanish when used?

Yup; they're not focuses. When you use one, it vanishes.
I always imagined that one can't really create these, actually, but that they're "harvested" from Thassilonian ruins across Varisia and beyond, meaning that there's a limited number of them and as time goes on, those looking for more have to travel to more and more dangerous locations to harvest more.

I'd have to disagree, as they are "idols depicting forgotten spirits", not "idols scavanged from ruins". They should be craftable - after all, with the exception of a spellcaster with the Fabricate spell, it takes a fair bit of game time to Craft 500 sp. Other than that, it's standard Craft rules, say with a DC of 18.
