An Interesting Trend

Skills and Feats

In Pathfinder RPG you've given us more feat slots to play with but...I also note a trend towards breaking up some feats into Basic, Improved, and Greater versions.

Does the net effect end up being using more feat slots to do what you could do with just one feat in 3.5? By extension I'm also asking if the improved and greater feat versions are worth spending feats slots on.

Could you give some specific examples please, I'm a little puzzled as to which feats you are talking about.

Sovereign Court

You now have to take the now-even-less-useful Combat Expertise, plus Improved Trip and then the final Trip to get what you had before with Combat Expertise+Improved Trip except that Combat Expertise has the shonky new mechanic in it. So that would be an example of it, I guess.

I'm also thinking of some less official suggestions too: like some folks who want an Improved Power Attack. Bleh. Give us back the original. It tastes better.

But up in the new feats thread that Jason started I couldn't help note the number of feats that are Improved and Greater. Do we need that? I'm not at this point yelling pro or con (except for Power Attack). Just looking for your thoughts.
