Ruins of the Dragon Lord pbp - 5 players wanted

Gamer Connection

I want to start running a pbp based on Mongoose publishings Ruins of the Dragon Lord. I am after a maximum of 5 players, NO MORE. The ideal players should be able to post at least once a day. We will be using Pathfinder Baeta rules. Idealy, the party should be quite traditional, with a mix of characters. (something like a fighter, a rogue, a wizard, a cleric and another martial type).

Character creation will be point buy (high fantasy) 20 point. Hit points are max plus con bonus plus racial bonus.

All dice rolls are by the player. I trust people. starting gold is max for the class.

I will post background on the campaign a bit later on.

Interested, I will look at the Beta

Liberty's Edge

I'm interested. I'd like to try out a sorcerer, not sure which bloodline. I'm leaning draconic or elemental. I'd like to see the setting to make that decision.

Shadow Lodge

Are you going to abandon your players once they've gone through the work of creating their characters here too?

Ouch! Low blow there I think. Due to 'personal' factors beyond my control (which I dont feel the need to go into here), I've been unable to run my other games. Problems with my computer have limited me to only playing a pc in another game, (and this was whilst at work using a works computer). I have DM'd for nearly 20 years. I dont abandon players, but sometimes real life does interfere and for that I apologise.

I'm still not familiar with the Pathfinder rules. But I can whip up a 3.5 character in no time at all. Would that be OK?

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32

I'd like a go, playing a roguish type. I assume this is first level, right?

Yes it is 1st level. I'm ok with anyone using 3.5 rule as im pretty sure we can get by. We just need one more player now. I will then post some background on a seperate thread on the discussion page.

Heres a bit of teaser though...

"A dark mountain looms against the darker sky.

It seems made of wisps of shadow and faint
traces of evil fancy, like it does not quite
exist.

Rather like a nightmare.

The terrain around the mountain is no better, all grown
with rocky peaks and crags like a festering disease.

It is completely devoid of colour too, as if on purpose; a sickly
rash for a sickly landscape.

It rains of course. The rain, however, is not like water;
instead it looks like cold white drips of ash. White ash
falling on black soil; all of it is black and white.

Ghostly forms cling to the rocks and crevices, their
appearance almost human, their vaporous mouths
congealed in what appear to be screams but may also be
dreadful celebration.

This, then, is Mount Moru.

It has a world around it, made of legend and dread; it has a maze inside, inhabited by dragons and monsters.

At the base of the mountain, you can see a tiny standing
stone, roughly the size of a man. It has some undecipherable
carvings, though there is always the nagging doubt they
actually mean something.

Like a warning.

A road goes up the mountain.

You really should not follow that road.

You really should not admit this mountain exists.

But here it is."

Sovereign Court

Flavor text...must resist...cannot...okay, I'll bite. I could whip up a fighter for this.

OK. James, that looks fine. what I will say is that I'm not a stickler for rules. I'm more for the story so if you have a few points wrong on skills etc i'm not to concerned.

Emmisary, you'd be most welcome to play a fighter.

Thats two confirms so far.

I'll do a wizard

Sovereign Court

Okay, here's Connor Krynn

Still some shopping to do, but he's more or less ready.

Connor was raised in a city after being found in the wild. He's basically a civilized barbarian, grown into a mercenary with a wanderers heart. He'll go where the money is, but will often take jobs that will take him to interesting places even if the pay is meager or uncertain.

I can embellish further before the game starts if you like.

Emissary, we're using racial HP bonuses, so Conner gets 6 more hit points. Woot!

Sovereign Court

Whoa! Missed that...excellent! Connor will be invincible! Invincible I say!

Excellent. Mind if Jack hides behind him? You won't even notice that I'm here... Ooo is that a coin pouch?

'Sure...just mind your fingers,' says Connor with a grim smile. 'We have way's of dealing with thieves where I come from.'

"Golly, I do hope it involves rewards and riches and gifts of dancing girls! I do so enjoy the dancing girls..."

OK, thats shaundakul and Larcifer on board. Just need one more player now.
since we seem to have a Wizard, a Sorcerer, a Rogue and a Barbarian it might be handy if someone could play a Cleric.

I am in with the wizard, but I am away htis weekend I'll stat em up as soon as i get home.

Dark Archive

I could create a cleric easy enough, diety undecided, likely core D&D or one that I created.
Where can I find the beta rules?
I assume it is 3.5 as well.

Larcifer, thats fine. No rush.

Lord Viper, welcome on board. Thats five players, excellent. The Beta rules are available as a free download on the Paizo website. Asfor a deity, I'll shortly post some background info including a list of deities.

Dark Archive

My computer won't allow me to download beta, I don't have normal internet. If you read my profile it should explain itself. A link would be appreciated.
I can still do daily posts most of the time.
Other than that, I would go with Boccob as a deity more than likely; or if you allow ideals it would focused on universal law and retribution (I don't like St. Cuthbert as a deity).

What was the date to begin? If it is still undetermined that's fine.

If you have 3.5 then you can just as easily use that. I havent selected a start date yet (Next week or so?). If you can hang about and wait a few day I will post some deity info.

I have posted a new thread on PBP discussion entitled Dragon Lord Background.

Dark Archive

I can make up the character within 10 min.
My only question is what's with the extra hp and feats? racial HD I'm accustomed to but not what seems to me "free" hp and feats.
Without the beta rules I can't make a determination unfortunately.
What are alignment and racial restrictions if any?
What about Book of Exalted Deeds or the good book (Book of Vile Darkness)? It's my goal to create the Angelwing Razor, it would be a 1-20 level achievement easily. If you don't go for that it's fine.

Dark Archive

You state in the first post that it is 20 pt buy, but the stat lines suggest 33 pt buy. Did you change it?
I may be using the wrong pt buy system, normally all stats are at 8. For the numbers to work, all stats start at 10.

That's correct, all stats start at 10.

As for racial HP, you get the normal HD + con bonus + a racial bonus. The frail races (elf, halfling, gnome) get 4 bonus. The Middle races (human, half-elf) get 6. The hardy races (dwarf, half orc) get 8.

Humans get a bonus martial weapon proficiency. Clerics are prof with their diety's favored weapon.

Would it help if I emailed you the chapters one by one?

Dark Archive

Email would be helpful.
Are you able to link them, I might get that to work; either way.

I will put the information into the character now.

What background info is needed? I will wait until all settings are dispersed. My question is are we all from this little town or meandering through, it can go both ways. If we all don't know each other, some other device will drive us together or maybe a third option; that'd be different.

Amelia (cleric) domains would be law and retribution. Some dieties have both, hopefully this setting does as well. Martial weapon proficiency Scythe. Deity/race/age undecided until more information available.

I would like to follow your adventure. I have been interested in the box myself :) I have no time to play right now, sadly real life is taking its toll, but I'll be lurking if that's okay with you. :)

Post, fellow players, post!

I'm interested if you guys need another player. I've got a couple of ideas floating around so just let me know.

I'm fine with that Cut.

PC's will all start out at the Old Stone Inn in Meadowvale,
where they have arrived looking for information or
adventure.

An inn you say?

If you still need someone I'm interested. Maybe a Paladin?

Vulcan, really sorry for not getting back quicker. I'd be really pleased if you wanted to join the game and a Paladin would fit in just perfect right now. We seem to be lacking a fighter type...

Again, Aaron, you would be welcome to join. Specifically, i need a fighter type if you could manage it...
