Make the overloaded monk abillities into some options

Classes: Bard, Monk, and Rogue

I really would like to see a system like the rogue talents for the abillities of the monk. Instead of Slow fall, Purity of Body (etc.), and Ki Abillities just make it something to choose from. So every level you could choose a new, well, let's call it just "talent" as well. They need to be taken in order (so slow fall 20 before slow fall 30 etc or purity of body before diamond body) and some may need a minimum level as well, but this way every monk would be a little more unique. And it would be relatively easy to give the monk some new options, without hurting backwards compatibility too much (as long as it would be possible to build an exact 3.5 monk + x abilities).

All those abilities are basically spells: slow fall = feather fall; leap of the clouds = jump; speed bonus from ki = expeditious retreat; abundant step = dimension door, etc. Just give the monk 4 levels of spells (like the paladin) and be done with it. Everyone could pick the options they like, minimum levels would be in-place, and, as a huge bonus, it would free up like 3 pages' worth of rulebook space, because you could just reference the spells instead of writing new descriptions for each class ability.

Same thing. Unless that's your point? (heh!) Or is it just that ki = psionic is a better correspondence, flavor-wise?

Anyway, whatever you call the powers, a spells list or pseudo-spells-list is an easy way to add class features without adding additional text to the rulebook.

Naw, the Paizo devs hate psionics. If you ask me they are totally psionicist about it...

(ba-dum-bum)

Totally psionicist about it? I regret that I have completely missed the pun.

Sorry.

The pun is that people who have issues with "race" are "racist."

Therefore, those who have issues with "psionics" are "psionicist."

wah-wah-waaaaah

Moving on...

Oh. *feels foolish* Yes, well, let's indeed move on :P

Scarab Sages

how about this Monk

This is the early monk I designed during alpha 3.

it still needs to be tweaked some. but I think it works much better than the existing.

Do all these little add-ons (selectable talents, rage powers etc) seem like the old 2e Skills and Powers to anyone else?

I guess in the most basic sense, perhaps...

But considering 2e didn't have a feats or real skill system, it didn't work the same.
