So...hows the Apocalypse going?

We blew the aliens out of the sky with the power of FIGHTING SPIRIT

Technically the Apocalypse has already happened. "Apocalypse" is just a synonym for revelation. So apocalypse refers to the Revelation of John, which is recorded in the Bible and describes the end of the world. But of course over time people have come to use it to refer to that event. Same thing with "Armageddon". It's a place, not an event.

Yup, but for most intents and purposes we assume people mean it in the colloquial sense - that is, the cataclysmic end of the planet, whether it be by divine return and all-consuming flame, alien bombardment, Spiral Nemesis, nuclear holocaust, Sol going supernova, zombies infesting the planet, or by other means.

Who's under that bulky suit of armor? ;)

Yep. This falls in that whole use/misuse of words discussion that popped up the other day. I wish these two extensions of words hadn't come about.

Scarab Sages

You know it is coming when Paizo announces that it will release the remain volumes of an AP in one month.

It is obvious that the world will end in August. :)

July will be, quite literally, an apocalypse. A parousia, even. It's world-ending potential I am more optimistic about. I don't think it has that eschatalogical quality, and the only destruction will likely have been wrecked already on the health of our intrepid staff.

Dark Archive

The world can't end in August, I already payed my save the seat fee for school.

Yeah. You could have probably bought, what, an iconic Orcus and enjoyed it for a month or two before everything blew?

Dark Archive

$200 bucks could have gotten me a couple of Orcus on e-bay. No Tiamats though. :(

Edit: Besides, according to the commercials for the local Christian survivalist store, the end of the world isn't until 2015.

Dare I ask, what Christian Survivalists are?

Dark Archive

You don't dare. They are the guys with 50 tons of MREs, a Hummer, a 2,000 gallon fuel tank, a still, and enough guns to make Rambo jealous stored in their basement right next to their Bible.

Minus the MREs and the still that sounds like a few members of my family. I'm wondering if I should be offended. :P

To be honest, I've never heard the term before either.

I agreed with something Glenn Beck said the other day. I'm pretty sure that's a sign of the apocalypse...

We would have been a lot better off if Luther's suggestion was taken into account to drop that last book from the NT. Headaches, headaches galore. :P

Yeah, I've felt that way some times. But then you'd lose half of Handel's Messiah and a lot of other great sacred art. Here's the real problem: over time, Protestantism removed the Bible from its interpretive framework--the complex network of canonical materials that grew up along with the Bible (for just one example, the Nicene creed was canonized by the same group that finalized the canon of scripture.) Once the Bible is cut loose from its canonical framework, people can interpret it willy-nilly. For example, I'm pretty sure I just found chapter and verse that commands everyone to send me their rare D&D miniatures. Just trust me though--it's late and I need to hit the hay so I can't look it up right now.

No can do. Must keep mine acetaminophen based. Thanks, though. :P

bible code exegesis is dangerous in the hands of a 'true' believer.

I've know quite a few of these guys. The general idea has been around for quite a while.

Well I was going to suggest Tylenol but with all the recalls I did not want to give you the presumption of poisoning.

Well they say that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Beck is more like once a decade but the law of averages says he has to get it right some times.

I created the term NUKE IT when we got a Microwave...a year later Michael J Fox used it on an Episode of Family Ties... :)

The prophecy of the popes is interesting... given that they have done their job well in identifying which pope various stanzas refer to, and JP2 was the third to last, Papa Razzi has to be the penultimate pope. After him, there will be a "Peter of Rome", or Peter II, who will be the last. There will be great suffering. It then ends with "The End". One can only hope that the idea of huge churches is what will end. The prophecy isn't clear.

As for the method of the apocalypse, I would really feel cheated if there wasn't zombiegeddon. Because rotting flesh is sexy. =)

String Theory Invalidate Religion and Evolution...good reason to give up those false belief systems.

I encourage you to try and explain string theory in a way that actually makes sense; I tried looking it up on Wiki and my head hurt after the first paragraph.

Even then being a religious person I seriously doubt it'll change my mind, but at least I'll understand some of your ranting :P

And Glenn Beck puts the "Fun" in "Fundementalist" cause he's just so damn hilarious. I mean he's almost as funny as Colbert.

matter is made up of little energy strings that vibrate in very weird but mathematically detectable ways. but they are not really strings but parts of a membrane. That gravity may or maynot be attached to. They also could be linked to alternate dimensions, but don't have to be. Clear as mudd yet?
