Tact Tiles?!?!?!?

Help! My tact tiles are deteriorating and I need a new set!!! I seem to recall Lisa saying some time ago that the company that made them might come back from the dead and start making them again. It's looking like that's not going to happen, so is there any chance you good folks at Paizo might step up on this one? I needs me some tact tiles!!!

P.S. Barring Paizo manufacturing them, anyone have any advice as to who I could hire to make such a product for me? I realize that it is probably a relatively simply project, but it's not at all within my skillset. In order to do it, I would have to purchase tools which would most certainly exceed the cost of having someone else do it (assuming, of course, that even given the tools, I could in fact manufacture such a thing and come out the other end with all my digits).

We are considering a similar product, but it'll be a while longer (if it happens).

Sebastian,
There's a how-to guide to creating Tact Tiles here. Not sure how useful that is to you.

Sebastian,

Assuming we are talking about the plastic squares that link together, I have a set that I do not ever use and would gladly part with at very little cost...

They're like puzzle pieces and you can use dry erase markers - does that sound like what you have? If so, you are a god among men! I'll shoot Paizo and email and see if they mind forwarding on my email information to you so we can discuss. I'd be happy to take them off your hands!

Yeah thats the ones I have. My wife bought them for me a few years ago but I never really liked them...I am set in my ways of the old Chessex battlemats. I think I may have used them like 2 or 3 times. Let me know.

Awesome. I've asked Paizo to forward on my email address, so hopefully we'll touch base shortly. Thanks DMRrostarr, I can't say how much I appreciate this.

At least Cosmo didnt try to send ya to the smurfs. Thanks Alison...I mean "All Alison".

I am also in the camp of willing to buy any 'tact-tile like' product from Paizo. Last time they went on eBay they cost like $200. Don't take that as a pice recommendation but it is one point on the supply and demand curve.

Just to throw it out there, I was thinking they should be metal with a white board drawing surface. That way you can use magnets like Alea Tools. I was even thinking of asking the "Board Dudes" (they make all sorts of white boards) to give me a price quote.

$211.00 actually, counting shipping, but at least they were in like new condition.

They are the best map system I've ever used.

I am trying desperately to find some good linoleum tiles (like used to carve and make linoleum stamps) that have a dry or wet erasable surface that I could cut into the proper shape to allow them to fit together. I already have a template made and took a Chessex irregular cut mat and covered several pieces with it, but I really want to find some linoleum tiles that will work. If anyone has any ideas for a supplier let me know.

A more homemade suggestion....

plexiglass...cut it into smaller sections. Make permanent lines on the under side and then flip it over to use it for game play with dry erase markers......

We did a variant of that a long time ago where we laid the Chessex battle mat on the table and placed a piece of plexiglass on top of it. Worked ok until we had to move to a different locations when we changed DMs....

i would like to add that i too would be interested in buying a set of tact tiles if paizo, or indeed anyone else, begins to produce them....

I just saw this. I am still looking for a set of my own as well. If paizo'd be making these, I'd be estatic!

Fantastic... I really hope you give this a bump when the kickstarter starts too :)

I have three or four sets of the original tact-tiles.

One of them is the first edition and the others are the second edition. I never heard of them until they were OOP but I bought them years ago. They are holding up well. I have 16 I use all the time and another set I use occasionally when my map needs to be expanded.

I believe I have the first ed set and another I have not used.

And when these come out I will likely buy a couple of sets anyway. They are the best mapping system in my opinion and I have tried many things but just in case they are not around long I will get a few of the new ones...

Awesome!

Hi Guys,

This is Mike McConnell, the owner of Void Star Studios. And yes, we plan to launch a Kickstarter for Tact-Tiles in the next few weeks. Please keep an eye on the Prefundia page for updates and news, and you can enter an email address to be notified when the Kickstarter goes live.

Please put a link in this thread too. Do you know when the kickstarter will go live?

A pre-Kickstarter. That's ... odd.

(didn't stop me from signing up, of course ... just strikes me as odd)

I am very, very tempted by these. The well in my Geek Chic table is something like 38" long by 28" wide - so I can fit a 2x3 configuration of the tiles. Is it possible that a 'half-width' tile could be offered down the line as a stretch goal? Looking at the tiles, I'm not sure that's even possible - it certainly changes the aesthetic, but it would certainly maximize the space.

Of course, of the many possible problems I could have in life, this is certainly one of the best!

You could buy a set and cut them in half...

Alas, I don't count on the precision of my skills - I think they'd need to align quite exactly! Perhaps I'm wrong.
