Brock trys to get out the way of the fire, Reflex:1d20+1=17

Then Brock takes his turn to run into the room with his fellow mates.

Yeah I'll take the AoO

Kirwen flattens himself against the wall as the flames roar down the passage, avoiding the worst of their heat.

Ref save (1d20+1=21)

"Think we need a new plan," he growls, carefully backing up the passage into the room withdrawing to C5.

Good news , Brock . You only take AoO if you tried to attack then withdraw or move between two threatened zones . Simply running away is safe here

Juliare moves to D6 , he will let Quick withdraw but won't let anyone ese go into the corridor . He will be careful not to point his arrow toward the creature and will tell ' Peace , there has been a mistake here ! '

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Brock and Kirwen carefully move away from the creature. Juliare tries to communicate with it, but it shows no sign of responding. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to pursue our heroes either.

Thrakhir and Quick have a chance to act before we drop out of initiative (unless you want to continue to fight it).

"It ain't comin' after us. Light it up, Quick."

"It's guarding something in that room," says Kirwen. "Think we need to invite ourselves in somehow." He looks at Brock. "It's tight in there - I'd need space. But, if the halfpint's lightning can't get the job done, one of us could maybe just shove the damn thing outta the way, if we tried."

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

Juliare frowns when he see the newcomers try to manipulate Brock :

'Before rushing headlong into problems , let's try to think a little . Who or what is that ? And what are his motivations ? Would he let us enter if accompanied by a priest of this temple for example ? '

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

"I can do a reasonable Kanto impersonation", says Raven, uncertainly. "But would it really fool that thing?"

Obviously, Thrakhir is growing impatient with standing around and discussing the next plan of action. "It's prob'ly requirin' some secret word, knock, handshake, or some other nonsense."

As long as the construct is not actively engaging the party, Quick will take a step back, her finger still trained on the thing, and allow for some discussion.

"Raven, was it? Dear, if you don't mind dressing up in dead women's clothes, I would suggest that you try the ol' switch-a-roo. Kanto probably had it wrapped around her little finger. It's blocking us from something, but I'm willing to bet it doesn't block everyone. Are you up for it?"

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Raven swallows. "I don't need to use the clothes she's actually wearing, do I? I bet she's got some more clothes in her room."

Clark tugs at her arm. "Don't do it, Raven. You'll just get yourself killed. You're not an adventurer like these people."

Raven looks unsure and looks to you for guidance.

"Have we tossed 'er room? Maybe there's a clue."

"The last thing we want is for you to get killed. You said you did a pretty mean impersonation of Kanto, so I was thinking that might be enough to order the thing around. You could probably dress up in whatever you wanted, as long as you pulled it off well. Give it a shot kid. If that doesn't work, then I'll give it a shot.", Quick says with a wink.

M Dwarf Rogue

"Unless you all think you'll be needin' me, I'm gonna go give Kanto's room another look. See if I can find a way past this thing."

If no one objects, Thrakhir will make his way back to Kanto's room and give it a thorough search looking specifically for any clues about the golem.

Black Tom

Spoiler:
Since I have the clue that Midas may have something to do with golem, I'd be very interested in anything referring to him.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Will Thrakhir search Kanto's room at the same time as Raven tries to impersonate Kanto? Or which do you want to try first?

Perhaps Thrakhir's searching may find something that is beneficial to Raven's attempted disguise? Perhaps she could wait until he's finished searching there anyway. Besides, she'll need time to change into Kanto's things, which are presumably in the same room as Thrakhir.

M Dwarf Rogue
Black Tom wrote:

EDIT: Ninja'd

Well, Raven is gonna have to go to Kanto's room to play dressup, so I'll go with her and start my search then. If Raven's ruse works, I assume someone will come up to get me; and, if it doesn't, I won't be much use with the floor layout the way it is. As far as I'm concerned, and unless someone suggests otherwise, I would rather just continue my search as Raven leaves. I'm sure there has to be something of interest here even if it is no help with getting past the golem.

I would also like to suggest that Raven don any jewelry, weapons, items, etc. that Kanto had on her.

Black Tom

Spoiler:
Just to be clear, this will be a search like you see in the movies when the bad guys come looking for something, cutting open mattresses, emptying out contents on to the floor, slicing open paintings (just to give you a visual). I'm going for efficient yet thorough.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Thrakhir:

Spoiler:
After turning Kanto's room inside out you do find a couple of interesting items. Behind a secret compartment in the wall above the fireplace there is a small locked box and in a secret compartment in the writing desk there is a ring with two keys. None of them open the box, alas.

Raven dons as much as she can of Kanto's things and does her impersonation. In a very Kanto-esque voice she calls out to the construct: "Stand aside, minion!" Her impersonation is rather mediocre, but it seems to work. The construct actually moves aside.

"You did it, girl!", whispers Quick enthusiastically. "Now, let's take a gander at what this thing was guarding."

M Dwarf Rogue

Black Tom

Spoiler:
Going to attempt a "search" check for traps on the locked box and a "disable device" check if I find any. After the conclusion of those I will attempt (several times if need be) to pick the lock. If you don't mind, can you make the checks for me?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

There is a catch, though. The construct only lets "Kanto" pass and blocks the way for the rest of you.

Thrakhir:

Spoiler:
After a thorough examination you decide that the box is not trapped and proceed to pick the lock. The box contains four black pearls.

M Dwarf Rogue

Thrakhir walks down the steps to the rest of the group. "Well, I found these keys. But I'm guessin' they went to that lock I just picked," he points to the open door. It's then he realizes that Raven is inside the room beyond. "I'll be bugger'd!" he says. "I was figurin' there's no way that plan could work. What you all waitin' on? Let's get in there."

Once Quick explains the situation, Thrakhir looks disappointed and begins thinking. Suddenly, Thrakhir's eyes light up, "Maybe we all could dress like acolytes."

"Sure. I can just picture it now. The Watch walks in and we desperately try to explain that we're just pretending to be priests of death. Really, we're just dressing up in the dead's clothes." Quick sighs. "Try it if you want, I doubt they'll fit me."

"If I's jokin', Quick, I'd say 'just get on my shoulders and we can share a cloak between us,'" he says with a hearty laugh. Then his face turns thoughtful, "Hm-m-m-m-m, I wonder if that'd work?" he utters musingly.

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

Raven , do you see anything of interest here ?
If not , I vote we strop trying to get in there and go find the authorities .
We have got the proofs there were crimes committed here and the beggars will be free from now on .
Or do you want to keep watch here while I'll go alone ?

I won't be able to post till sunday afternoon

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

"No, I can't see anything here except that creepy little shrine", Raven answers, trying to suppress the panic in her voice and still sound like Kanto. "If you haven't got any more ideas, I'm coming back."

"Can you try telling that thing to let us through?"

"I can try, yes." Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working.

Ok come back here please then

Hesitantly Raven tries to pass the monster. It lets her pass, leaving you all back in the room.

I'll need some kind of consensus about what to do next.

"I say we at least a couple of us try some acolyte robes. We don't have to dress fully but we can try donning the cloaks and shroudin' ourselves."

"We ain't got any more leads, right? and that room's the only one we ain't checked, yeah?"

"As far as I can figure, yeah. It don't take a genius to see that this thing is guarding something for a reason. And it's doing a helluva job. We could always leave it for now. You can try playing dress-up if you want, but if that don't work, we don't have to worry right now. Kanto, or someone who does a heck of an impression, is the only person who can get past the thing. Chances are pretty good that Kanto ain't comin' back to claim whatever's in there, so we can rest easy."

Quick is willing to blast away at the thing to get at whatever is behind, but does not, under any circumstances, want any of the others to get hurt over it. Physical attacks are not doing much against the thing, but sitting in the hallway blasting at it might cause it to go on a rampage and kill us all. If we can't get past this room right now, we should certainly come back with more firepower later.

M Dwarf Rogue

Thrakhir will go upstairs and see if there are two cloaks that are available and try to find one that will fit Thrakhir (if I can't find one that's fine, obviously if this thing can't see through Raven's disguise, it isn't the brightest). He'll go back downstairs, handing one to Kirwen, "You comin'?" and putting on one himself (around the corner out of the view of the golem) doing his best to fully cover his features in the hood of the cloak and wrapping it around his clothing. "Lead the way, Ma'am. If anythin' goes sideways, get out quick." he says to Raven.

Kirwen dons his cloak, trying to stoop so as to look a little less like the massive figure he is. The cloak only comes to the tops of his boots, so he has to bend over to make it reach the floor as it is intended. The result is more than a bit comical, but Kirwen just pulls the hood over tighter and prepares to head down the corridor after Raven.

The problem here is the corridor - we need to be able to take it from multiple directions, so we can attack it more than one at a time. (The narrow space is also preventing me from enlarging, which would help a lot, I think.) The thing's breath weapon only has a range of 15 ft; if Quick just takes potshots at it, it will either eventually die, assuming it doesn't just somehow shake off the attacks, or it will have to come after us - and in this room, I think we would be much better off.

I'm sure it's no more comical than Thrakhir as his drags behind him. ;)

At least Quick ignored the comment about standing on top of your shoulder. That would be ridiculous.

Quick and Spark wrote:

I'm tellin' ya, it could work!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

So you are going to try to get Thakhir and Kirwen past the monster in borrowed robes?

I believe that was the plan. Quick might yet be convinced to balance on Thrakhir's shoulders.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I'll await some more details before I adjudicate your efforts.

M Dwarf Rogue
Quick and Spark wrote:

Ya don't need to balance. Just sit atop.

To clarify, I think the plan is to let Raven go past once again, with Thrakhir and Kirwen trailing behind as "acolytes." I'd suggest putting Kirwen in second place, since he needs no visible weapons to remain armed, in case things go wrong...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

OK, I just need to know if Quick is going to be persuaded or not.

Sure.

Male Half Elf ( want to make something of it !) Ranger 2

"You are not going to be convinced otherwise, do you ? " juliare says with a sigh
"Just let me scrounge some more arrows from the guards '
coming back , Juliare move to D1 , stops and turns back to the others '

"Guys , did you check the double doors while I was not there ? Don't worry if not , Brock and me will stay here and keep an eye on them "

Can't believe we forgot about them

Brock will stay with juliare... "To gaurd the rear..."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Raven tries her Kanto impersonation again, waves her hand at it and says: "Go away, Harold." Amazingly it works. Then Kirwen and Quick/Thrakhir try to follow her, looking as much as acolytes as possible.

Make a Disguise check each, Quick at -5 (but Thrakhir can use his to aid Quick).

M Dwarf Rogue

Disguise = 18
No help for quick with a 9

Stooping, knees bent, shoulders hunched over, it shouldn't work - but somehow, Kirwen seems to be pulling it off. He shuffles down the hallway after Raven.
