Scarab Sages

The players:
Mo, Gnome Rogue 2
Axxis - Human Monk/Sorc(fey) 1/1
Ash - Elven Fighter 2
Groshk - 1/2Orc Barbarian 2

Picking up at the entrance to the Dwarven Ruins in Beta.

Spoiler:

Being an Evil group, their only motivation is gold. They rush in slaughtering every kobold in area 1, save one slave who fled towards area 4... Only one party member followed...The brash barbarian...right into the Gelatinous Cube...having failed his Perception Check to see the cube itself, and raging, he took his first action to kill the kobold, who was nearly dead in the cube already. The Gelatinous Cube engulfed the barbarian. Barbarian made the first save versus Paralysis. (CMB=+5 Cube) The barbarian broke the grapple (+7 CMB vs DC20)...and charged back in...in his rage, was engulfed a second time and faile dversus paralysis...Only the Extra HP from racial and favored saved him in the end, as the rest of the party was 2 rounds behind him. The Sorcerer thought he would save the barbarian for some reason...and was engulfed and paralyzed...also saved by the bonus HP for favored/racial. The fighter and rogue barely finished off the Cube.

The party fled the dungeon to heal...seeing as how they had no healer with them.

Upon their return, they headed to the crucible room, we're surprised by the grick failing their perception checks. The grick lasted all of 1 round when color sprayed by the Sorcerer. The barbarian was a bit upset when he woke up from being sprayed as well...as the grick had been thrown in the crucible.

The dire rats in the next area lasted all of 1 round when color sprayed.

The barbarian once again showed how not to do things in the lodestone room, as he tried to skirt the outer edge...after the rest of the party wanted nothing to do with that room...his 20STR held out against the lodestone and the vargouille...2 was not enough of them with their low HP.

The shocker Lizards in the Fountain Room, succeeded in scaring off the party

The party found the monk's quarters pretty docile, so they let the rogue search the room while they stayed at the doorway...Rogue nearly dies when attacked by 5 stirges...(d4 CON dmg from each in 1 round is too much, I'm making it 1/round in my games, so it will be closer to a Pathfinder poison. 1/2 CR creatures should not do d4 CON in 1 round...ouch)

The last encounter of the night was Edgrin and the escapees versus the kobold captors.

The Party handed them their proverbial somethings...Yagrik put up a bit of a fight, but the barbarian, inspired by the bard, took him down in 2 rounds. Especially when he failed his acrobatics check to attempt to use his flying claw to disarm the barbarian.

Loved the ease of the new Combat Maneuver system. more encounters with grappling, went much faster.

Much fun was had by all.

Next installment in 2 weeks.

Liberty's Edge

What were your thoughts on the ease of grappling? Was it too difficult, too easy, just right? My group has found it to be a pain.

Slightly complex, but much better than 3.5, only gripe I have is that they don't have the grappled condition in the Combat maneuver area.

Liberty's Edge

Okay, so the rules work fine. Good to hear. Do you think that the DC 15+CMB is too low or too high? Is it just right at lower levels? What about higher ones?

15 might be too high, I was thinking of changing it to 13+ or 12+ to test those numbers....
