Liberty's Edge

Okay, this may seem like a dumb question but I believe there are no dumb questions, just dumb people (joke, please do not take offense)...

When is the appropriate time to give the players the Faction Handouts in the back of the mod? I am thinking right after the opening... I would like to RP the handing out of the sheet of paper but I figure with a limited time we have to play that might be an issue... How did you GenConners do it? What worked best?

Thanks

Most of my DMs handed the sheets out beofre the intro, as we were all just taking our seats. If I were running the scenarios at home (even with plans to report the results), I think I would role-play it out, calling each character to a private room, describing the route of delivery of the communication, answering questions if the assignment were given in person, etc.

I think it was Lilith who did a really neat job of turning these into handouts. She put them on parchment looking paper and had the fonts switched over to look handwritten, and put the faction logos on the top.

I did that as well. The parchment pages were well received.

When I ran the scenarios at Gencon, I passed the faction handouts out partway through the opening "boxed text" exposition. I paused where the text finished describing the mission, before it began describing the heroes' journey to the scenario's starting point. That allowed me to break the text into more managable chunks and suggested that the factions had contacted the characters before they set out.

We were given ours prior to anything starting so we had full time to digest them prior to anyone needing to process additional data in an otherwise loud room.

I did the parchment feel as well with faction appropriate fonts. I also placed them into sealed envelopes with the faction logo on them. I handed them out right after the tracking sheet made it back around so I could just hand them their handouts without verbally asking the question.

The Exchange

I played at one of James' tables and I thought the way he did it, given the limited time, was pretty much optimal. We still ran short on time, but that wasn't his fault.

I had a great time!
